QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 12:19 AM) Of course he does. Boers makes $500,000 McNeil is at least entertaining Boers does nothing. That show is better when he is on vacation.

Phil knows he is not taking that much less money to go to Chicago and is not giving him a S&T. Can Melo go to Chicago for one year and then sign a long term max deal?

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) It's possible the Reds might need a 2nd baseman if Phillips' thumb injury is serious. Beckham would be a good fit there. Update: Phillips out 2 months with torn thumb ligament They can get Beckham and he may succeed but the return will be nothing of value for the next three years to the White Sox. Thinking a low A pitcher with some upside. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 03:23 PM) Reds need a 2nd baseman now...make it happen Hahn! Nobody is giving anything of value for Beckham. Ramirez is trending that way as well sadly. -
Talk was that he relies so much on movement that TJ could really impact his career. I still think he wins ROY------only semi-joking

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 12:04 AM) BTW, I know everything with the Hawks is "Toews and Kane this" and "Toews and Kane that"...but there's no way Kane should be making what Toews is. I get why it was done that way, but Toews is much more valuable to the team (any team for that matter) than Kane. Realistically, Kane isn't worth a 10.5 cap hit, but at the same time, you aren't letting him walk for that. I'm not trying to s*** on Kane, but he made out better in this deal than he probably would have solo. So hopefully he's thanking Toews for the help. I wanted to post this when the extension talk came out earlier this summer. I view the Kane deal like I view Crawford. They are good to have locked up but I think they are both over paid for what they do. Kane needs to be more of a two way player to make that money. He is good scorer but he is not as valuable to the team as Sharp or Hossa except for the fact that he is younger. Again, I get it and understand it but I think he is worth about $2-$3M less than Toews. The Saad deal will be interesting. -
So he took a few weeks off stays to throw close to home to close out the year and starts game five of the 2015 season. No need to put him on the 40 man for the winter unless it is part of the deal. Works for me.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 04:40 PM) I'm ready to give up on Flowers. I just wish the org was. At this point nieto should get 50% of playing time -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 09:19 AM) But Jeff is a fa after this season and is/was going to test the market. They got a top 15 prospect for a guy that is going to want much more money than he deserves in the offseason. He is a FA after 2015. It was a nice pick up but about what you would expect to get. Samarj is a good pitcher that got what they should have. No guarantee he is with Oakland this august and certainly not next. Problem with Bryant and Baez is that the K Rate is pretty high.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 09:30 AM) I'm being serious. His campaign in '80 was "let's restore America." The inauguration freeing of the captives in Iraq did that and Ronny sailed on from there. Weren't interest rates in the 20% range under Reagan or was that the after affect of Carter. I also heard from older folks that Nixon was a great president but was in the shadow of Kennedy and was paranoid as hell which lead to watergate.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 04:51 PM) Do you think Noesi might be turning into a real starter? He has done pretty decent and seems to get better every game ALMOST. I just thought the same thing.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) So you want to trade Patrick Sharp and don't want anything to do with Ryan Kesler? Did you GM the Islanders recently? He loved Alpo. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 10:27 PM) That was all on the defensive positioning. They were playing Mauer like he was Jose Abreu. That and the fact de aza is a terrible outfielder.

Verlander had surgery in the offseason maybe he is not fully healthy yet.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 10:20 AM) So every night I listen to Fangraphs Audio podcasts, and Fringe Average when they finally get around to doing one. Well last night I ran out of new ones to listen to, so I dug to the bottom of the barrel and listened to Buster Olney's ESPN Baseball Tonight podcast. He had a conversation with Karl Ravich and some other guy to discuss which pitcher they would rather have, David Price or Jeff Samardzija. After far too long of a debate on what I figured would be an easy answer, they all picked Samardzija..... The only real reason any of them could come up with, was because "Price has more innings on that arm. Samardzija has more bullets left". While Jeff has only thrown 650 ML innings to Price's 1080, if you add in all the extra years Jeff spent in the minor leagues, Jeff comes out to 1135 IP to David's 1230 IP. A difference of less than 100 innings. Which if we really wanted to nitpick, Jeff is 8 months olders. He turns 30 before next season, Price turns 30 at the end of next season. Anyway, I just thought it was a stupid argument to ignore all the great seasons David Price has turned in, and choose the obviously inferior Samardzija simply because of the idea that he has pitched slightly less professional innings. Seems the media will always do anything to shine a bright light on anything related to he cubs. One guy has made his success pitching in pennant races in the AL East and in the World Series the other guy made his name pitching for one of the worst teams in baseball with zero pressure.

There is still a learning curve and they need to know these kids will pan out. Waiting for the plan to all unfold at once is risky.

Sox Draft Carlos Rodon> Draft Day Discussion Thread
Harry Chappas replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
Bruce Levine was on wscr making the cubs plan seem sensible. Then said rodon's record hurt him this year man is a putz and dolt. Great draft thus far. -
Hawk almost cries thinking where this team would be with a healthy Avasail.....can't say I disagree. He and Nate if healthy really pique my interest in this team this year.

Sox Draft Carlos Rodon> Draft Day Discussion Thread
Harry Chappas replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
I like Rodon and Nola and I think they like the idea of the possibility of them being in the rotation as early as next June. Nola may save a couple of bucks to spend later. -
The cubs superseding the Blackhawks probably had something to with it. When you could not find the Blackhawks playoffs on the radio, it is bad. Wouldn't mind the Sox moving to 87.7/WGN mix or ESPN 1000.

Hossa needs to be a healthy scratch much more often next year. Whether he was hurt or not the guy was not right almost the entire playoffs. Winning games in February and March mean nothing. Home ice means very little in the NHL. I thought the Hawks were out worked the entire playoffs and the defense was not there. Bolling and Versteeg add nothing which is sad for Verseteeg as he once had talent.
