Well the cub rebuild model is up 3-0 not sure if this is a godo or bad thing. One thing that may be a stumbling block is that baseball is shifting to a pitching and defense game and none of those guys are pitching and defense kind of guys.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 02:20 PM) I find that to be a crap argument. Bears fans filled up that crap ass Memorial Stadium which was 2 hours away. Most cities have a safe base of 70k fans each week eager to watch football. Solider Field is a s***hole not as bad as Wrigley Field but not much better. The Cadillac Club and sky boxes might be nice but the joint is an eyesore and has zero amenities. -
Sons of Anarchy is still hanging in there. Glad the series is over but the story arc focusing on Gemma is just a waste of good potential...maybe the ending fits but the Jumping of thh Shark started with Ireland and landed with Opie's exit. The one good thing though is it is local, no Mexico or IRA. The current stuff is somewhat believable. I like that the Scot is getting laid as well.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) That was 20 years ago, the NFL has grown leaps and bounds since then, and the Rams have been blacked out at home for like 15 straight years. Wow I did not know that. They built them a stadium too I believe. That is sad but most of their time is spent being Cardinal fans I suppose. -
QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 04:39 PM) I'm okay with KC-Cards WS, and I'm also okay with whoever wins but I like the Cards and with AJ on the squad I'm definitely rooting for the Cards to take it all again. I don't care who wins and it makes the playoffs pretty enjoyable. Always root for the Cards to piss off cubs fans.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 03:39 PM) I compare Illinois football to DePaul basketball. They can't even attract good in-state and Chicagoland kids anymore and are living in the past. They need to build from within and stop looking for a miracle hire. Otherwise, any coach successful at Illinois is going to leave within a few years for a better job. Depaul basketball made their name but playing nobody all season and then losing early in teh tourney. They did getsoem good players from Chicago but they never palyed a real team durign the season. -

There was a stat Sunday that showed Bears are last in the league in play attempts greater than 20 yards or something along those lines. This is also about the time of year where Jay gets hurt and misses a few games. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 02:51 PM) Rice's student section might be the best in the state. It can go both ways. While it is very cool they can get out of hand. They cheered when Marist RB went down this year. They also got in hot water for a buckwheat chant when they were playing thorton years back although the kid did look like buckwheat. A good amount of those kids are from the area so the games are very accessible which is not the case with Rita and MC. Rita and MC are down this year which is helping Rice and Provi. Loyola is a down a step as well but not as much as Rita and MC. Rita may be down for a while, their lower levels are not drawing as they had in the past. Same with Marist. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 02:14 PM) Whatever miscommunication happened between jay and marshall we will never hear, but Trestman clearly called out Marshalls f*** up post game. and then back tracked at the Monday press conference after talking to both players -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) It was a timing route, he threw it before Marshall was supposed to curl. He never curled and shields was right there waiting for it. If Marshall curled, he would have shielded the defender, like the play is designed. His pick across the middle to Tramon Williams was awful, no doubt. But the pick to Shields was on marshall The curl route was covered the fly was wide open. If jay recognized this as marshall did it would have been a touchdown. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 02:01 PM) Illinois is probably the worst college football job in the Big 10. Too many unreasonable expectations from the alumni. Wisconsin, Michigan, Penn St, Nebraska, and Ohio St. have winning history. Northwestern, Minnesota, Purdue, Rutgers, Maryland and Indiana are just happy to be successful sometimes. Iowa , Michigan St. and Illinois are the only schools that have tasted success and think they can get it every year. Iowa and Michigan St. are right and are successful sometimes, Illinois is not. Wisconsin's winning history began with Alvarez. Wisconsin and Michigan State are what Illinois should be. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 12:55 PM) This is the exact category I see the Illinois job in. It is a clear third tier job in the Big 10. Football is not basketball. A good system guy can win. Illinois football also can retain Illinois talent which they struggle with in basketball. If the administration so choose Illinois would be on par with Wisconsin and MSU. Playing in the BIG gives you an opportunity to play for the national championship annually. -
I know this is not the right forum but does anyone have the story about the the guy from hawaii that knew Reinsdorf and was one of only three people to see Frank Thomas contract? Ncogi I think it was. There was a period when I was out of commission in regard to this site for a few months and he was just gone.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 11:48 AM) I'm caught up to season 7, episode 1. If Gemma survives till the end, I'll be furious. I've taken to calling the show "Gemma Of Anarchy" since she ruins everything. On that Afterword show they did that followed the first episode, even Katey Sagal is oblivious to the fact that her character is horrible, controlling, selfish and destructive. She's all like, her heart's in the right place. Whatever. Killing was a massive gut punch. I was damn near in tears. But killing was absolutely horrible. My wife keeps making the point that Gemma is Vic Mackey, and if that's really the case, I think we're all in for massive disappointment at how things end for her. Not that the ending to The Shield was bad, just if that's how things end for Gemma, it will be a huge fail. You are spot on. Although I am not certain how the show actually could have evolved with just those guys sitting around.

The problem with the Bears is it seems that cutler is not cut out for Trestman's offense. They are stuck together for the next two years then something has got to give. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 04:00 AM) We'll see in Week 8 and 9 when they have Providence and Rita back to back. Did beat Loyola though. Mt Carmel and St Rita are both down this year. St Rita looks to be down for a couple of years. Providence is pretty damn good should win state at 6A rather easily. Loyola and Brother Rice are interesting. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 10:53 AM) Local radio doesn't start until later today, so not entirely sure. Morning radio on both stations are national syndicates (Dan Patrick or Colin / Mike & Mike). In general though local radio will probably spend most of its time talking about the Dodgers. or the Rams coming back home

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 09:54 AM) The Roosevelt's on PBS was incredible, as is anything done by Ken Burns. Well worth the 13ish hours to watch it all. He was just in Chicago to give a talk on this and I had a ticket and forgot all about it...
