  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 04:09 PM) My understanding is that JR is the only one in the group that has this option even though he is not the majority shareholder. I'm not a business guy so I'm not sure if that is common or not. While JR does not own the most he spearheaded the group in the late 70's to buy the team and as such is the defacto leader and continues to be the face of the operation and probably wrote in the right of first refusal as I think the story goes that most of the investors kind of took a flyer on the investment without expecting much. Lee Stern owns a bigger chunk as does I think Pat Bowlen
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 11:07 AM) Ricketts has to spend about $300 million rehabbing his dump. If JR needs a rehab, the state does it for him. Plus Ricketts will be paying off his purchase of the team for years. And they painted themselves into a corner. They have said they don't have the funds to compete unless they get this rehab done. But if they start spending wildly before this rehab is done, it sort of makes them liars. The cubs pay an estimated $50 million dollars of operating revenue annually to service the debt they took on to purchase the team. The cash cow is also not as fruitful as it once was. Papa Ameritrade didn't give son Ameritrade the money to purchase the team and from some accounts is not to interested in caring about winning baseball on the northside hence the three, now five year plus rebuilding plan.
  3. Let's just hope he took the Horry Kow shirts in the lighthearted fashion they were meant to be.
  4. What if Tad Iguchi really liked it here and it is something appeals to Tanaka? Chicago in some regards is a better option to Seattle, LA and NY in that it is a big market and gives you all the amenities without the over the top media coverage.
  5. Seems like a cubs propaganda piece to pump up artificial hype.....would go a log way in moving the White Sox back into the thick of things....... What if this cat only wants a four year deal in order to free agency at 29.......... Color me curious that is for certain. White Sox called me yesterday to talk about renewing my partial season package.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 12:02 AM) That FSU made adjustments by bringing out the towels in the 2nd half, and that Winston and the FSU offense dominated when the opponent didn't know what was coming? And that FSU has a lot of talent coming back next season? Is that ok? Or do I have to run the topics of my posts through you beforehand? It appears Auburn stopped forcing the issue on defense and blitzed a lot less. At least it seemed that way but the stats could tell otherwise.
  7. Armed robberies can be classified as petty misdemeanor theft until a suspect is arrested.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 03:10 PM) I was 7 when Frank made his MLB debut so I grew up watching him throughout my childhood, he has always been my favorite player. I knew he would make the Hall of Fame, but getting in the first ballot is just so awesome. I was 20 what a great time to be 20-25 years old. Frank Thomas and the onset of grunge.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 01:10 PM) I started to think about what Frank Thomas means to me and to my fandom. Tears started welling in my eyes. I wish like hell athletes didn't have to age. I concur, really is cool to think...I remember him being drafted and playing in County Stadium to make his debut. Wonder who inductes him...... Thomas ana LaRussa bring back some odd emotions in regard to the White Sox recent history.
  10. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 01:08 PM) GOAT Sox player. Not even close really. Raines got 46.1. Durham got 0 votes. Also mlb just said Thomas is the first player in...then my tv cutoff. What did they say DH to get in
  11. 36.4% is a new percentage record so that includes almost all submitted ballots. Why would 60% of folks not vote?
  12. The 2014 HOF Ballot Collecting Gizmo! Updated: Jan.8 - 1:35 ~ 207 Full Ballots ~ (36.4%* of vote ~ based on last year) (*new pct. record!) 99.5 - Maddux 95.7 - Glavine 89.4 - F. Thomas 79.2 - Biggio
  13. Kangaroos do not make good pets
  14. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 4, 2014 -> 12:20 AM) I don't think he caught it. The espn ref expert was off his rocker a few times tonight. That was terry mcauley, the guy that assigned those officials. He is justva little biased as he put them in the game. Some odd calls.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 12:49 PM) I. F*cking. Hate. Teachers. On. Facebook. One of them just posted a link to an article that some Minnesota schools have canceled school for Monday already because of the expected temperature with the words "hint, hint Illinois!" holyf***ings*** First of all, they'll cancel school, but come on, she will have been off of work for SEVENTEEN straight days at that point. SEVENTEEN! Do you really need another?? Why are all these b****es so fat and lazy!? The only thing I know about folks employment from Facebook are those that ride the train or bus to work and teachers. Bus and train folks have free time to tell us that they are on said bus or train after a hard days work without going into specific detail while teachers feel the need to tell you how hard they work and how many days they will have off for a given break/holiday that is over due and all to short.
  16. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 03:22 PM) Which is why this will never happen. Wait until Clowney's Pro Day or the Combine (whatever he participates in), and when a 275 lb DE runs a sub 4.5 and excels in all the other drills, he'll be a consensus Top 3 pick again. All it takes is an offensive line or QB run and he drops. A good amount of talk and tape on him taking players off and durability issues. Doubt it happens but it could
  17. Meriweather is only 29. I thought he was that old when he played for the Bears.
  18. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 10:38 AM) As bad as it could be, the USOC is much more worried about the Next Summer ones in Rio. They are already allocating extra resources for future security. Chicago would have been a much less stressful choice.
  19. With modern technology (bench warmers, clothing) the game still has some semblance of reality. How the hell did those players stay warm at the Ice Bowl and still be able to move?
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 11:40 AM) @MattSpiegel670 I've got a source I trust on the official cap hits for the Jay Cutler contract, & the numbers are not as they've been reported/listed. SOURCE: The official salary cap hits for Cutler are as follows: ’14: 11.8 mil '15: 15.3 ’16: 16.8 ’17: 18.3 ’18: 18.8 ’19: 22 ’20: 23 SOURCE: Cutler contract calls for a prorated bonus of $10.8 mil for each of the first 5 seasons, adding up to the $54 mil guaranteed total. So it is $10.8 a year for five years plus 14 - $1M 15 - $4.5M 16 - $ 7.5M 17 - $8M 18 - $10.5M
  21. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 02:29 AM) Hockey, curling, bobsledding. YES. The biathlon would be cool to try......if I knew how to ski and shoot
