QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 03:45 PM) Agreed. They aren't making the playoffs with or without him, and no one's going to take that contract of our hands. Pencil him in, hope for the best, and STFU. This was the only post I read in this thread and you hit the nail on the head.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 12:43 PM) Maybe, maybe not but last I heard, they play 5-5. Starting a franchise right now, gimme a 25 year old Durant. LBJ may have already peaked, he's staring at 30 with a ton of mileage. Sure, he's durable but let's see if that holds up in his 30s. Get mad LBJ will be better than Durant for the next five years. Durant will play second fiddle, games in December in the NBA are meaningless except to those with little brother complexes that think they have to prove something, like the Bulls .

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 01:07 PM) I thought the winter 2 years ago was the easiest of my lifetime. It seemed for every day it was cold, it would be followed up by 4 or 5 at least 40 degrees, and it hardly snowed at all. Maybe that was different if you are in the snowbelt. I live in the city and as bad as I have it, living in Northern Indiana seems like you get the same temperatures but a lot more snow. Wasn't that the bigger snowfall/mild blizzard. It seemed that it snowed almost every day. I used to think that snow seemed to only last a while and for the most part the ground would have dry periods that winter in 2011 and especially this year are terrible.
-
I thought the winter two years ago was one of the worst then it got warm in March and lasted all summer. It seemed to me that winter was either dry and cold or mild temps with a lot of snow. I only really remember the blizzard of 78, a heavy snowfall in April of 82, and frigid 1983 blast. The late 70's bad winter may explain why I hated my childhood and why my parents were always in a bad mood.

I am a sportsfan and I could easily do without ESPN, college football is the only thing I watch and CBS and ABC are getting most of the marquee games there.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 02:01 PM) A legit, oh my goodness we have a stud, starting goaltender is pretty hard to find. Crawford is not, and never has been, said guy. Sadly, he's now paid like it. The only goaltenders who will make more than Crawford (next season) are: Pekka Rinne Jonathan Quick Roberto Luongo Cam Ward Ryan Miller Kari Lehtonen Tuuka Rask Oh my, does Crawford belong nowhere near that list of talent. Not sure what you are trying to prove I never said he was anything more than a more important resource to the Blackhawks than Bickell is. If I wanted to argue for his signing which, again, I am not, the question would not be who is making more the question is who was available this past off-season to replace him?
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 10:07 AM) Give me one reason that this is true. I guess I just think it is harder to find a starting goalie than it is a third (or fourth) line winger. I do not think Crawford is worth his contract but I understand that signing more than I do Bickell.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 08:56 AM) Not exactly a stellar offseason for Bowman between the Bickell & Crawford deals. The Crawford deal was more of a necessity while Bickell was a third (or fourth) line winger that got hot at the right time.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 01:58 PM) I don't know one way or the other, but it's not obvious to me why having it at a neutral site increases revenue. Because it is predetermined and more people can plan for the date and location as opposed to a random city on an unspecified date. New York City has organized events every day this week. This can be completed because they know 500,000 will show up for he event. This is the same thing as to why the Kentucky Derby, Indy 500, and Daytona 500 are party atmospheres while Game 6 of the NBA finals is not...because there may or may not be a game 7 and then if there is a game 7 it is a little too late to organize the party. That is why the Super Bowl is held at neutral site. It has nothing to do with the game itself and one of these times it will be a home game for someone.

I always thought the global warming would lead to global cooling as the ice caps melted and the ocean waters rise and cool.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 09:55 AM) If that was my CEO I would start looking for a new job instantly. That comment reeks more of desperation/frustration then trying to change the world, I would have little confidence in the future of that company. Sure, but he is right.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) Luge, except for men's double, is cool. Why they have men's doubles but not women's doubles seems odd. Women's doubles luge, or mixed doubles would be hot. son of a b**** it does exist, how is this not covered more, sorry, but this could be the hottest sport out there. http://www.olympic.org/luge-doubles-mixed

New York Football Giants as this is Coughlin's last year and it would be interesting to see how he goes about his business.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 12:29 PM) Why don't the Cubs just buy out the affected rooftops? It can't cost much more than a reserve infielder. If this is supposedly holding everything up, with what they will have to pay lawyers and time lost, wouldn't that make sense? Money must really be tight at Clark/Addison. It seems to me the Ricketts kids bought a lemon of a car without having a mechanic look at it first. I bet Cubs fans thought anyone but the Tribune Company would be good for the Cubs. Be careful what you wish for. Revenue for the rooftops is probably close to $1M annually. The buildings have been retrofitted to serve the purpose of being a bar on the top two or three floors if not the entire building. I would guess the cost to buy those buildings would be in the $50-$100M range.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 08:49 PM) It's fun to watch. It's a real business competition. It is pretty good, I am not sure why but it is as entertaining as storage wars. .

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 09:05 AM) The general sentiment is the Dodgers and Yankees can over a lot more than we can. My guess was he signs for 7/$147, and Sox offered 7/$119. But bigger unknown was how much Tanaka would value the money over other factors. For those who felt Tanaka would leave $30 mil on the table, they fooled themselves. Hahn was wright, if it hasn't come down to $$, we had as much a chance as anyone, but the sad reality was it most likely came down to money, but a lot of people here refused to see that. What fans were holding out hope for was that the luxury tax would impact how the Dodgers and Yankees do business. It obviously does not. What this shows is that the posting cost Tanaka's Japanese team $30M that ended up in Tanaka's pocket anyway and wasted a lot of other peoples time.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 09:04 AM) Like they are content with Arod's contract? Maybe not content but it has not affected how they run the organization.
-
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 08:49 AM) Props to all those who fooled themselves into believing Sox were higher than the Yankees on Tanaka's destination list. Who was fooled? The White Sox flat out said if it comes down to money they will not get him. The cubs were the one's that said they would not be outbid. I think the Sox ended up around 5 years $100M not enough to outbid teams but if was not about money they had a shot did some work and it did not work out. He was an ideal for what they need at this time as he was for every other team.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 19, 2014 -> 07:28 AM) Roy from "Shipping Wars". I sometimes watch this during the marathon time slots on History. Does Heather need a hug? http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/g...ticle-1.1584425 He was really the best part of the show along with the hot check named Robbie.

Tanaka camp could be floating amounts to jack the price up. 6/130 seems like a number that can go to 7/150 real quick from an interested party when in actuality the best offer is 5/100 which he could take and say he took that to renegotiate at a younger age 30, as opposed to 31.

With PED's being reduced, the plethora of 30+ free agent signings actaully working out is being less and less. This type of player may not be around for a while.
