QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 08:46 PM) The Cards are a WAY bigger rival of the Cubs. It isn't even in the same stratosphere. That's because the Pirates built the cubs mid-2000 teams by handing them productive players. The Reds, Cards and Pirates have to be keeping Theo up at night.

DirectTV called me last night and as a loyal subscriber offered me a decent discount on Showtime. We never watched it before so it really was not worth it but I appreciated the call.

When did Rodney start throwing 100? With an 85MPH slider he is pretty damn impressive. I never knew his stuff to be that good but I may not have been paying attention. He is the epitome of an assclown and makes me root against Tampa.

Hawk is a Ford Frick finalist
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 04:33 PM) I've said this like 100 times but I love the guy but he's absolutely awful at his job at the moment. Harry Carey was awful at the end, Hawk is more of an ass now.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 04:36 PM) It's DSL, so its limited based on many factors, one being distance from hub. What do you pay for Comcast? My wife insists we pay $25 for the home phone so we have Comcast home phone and Internet it is $91 a month. DirectTv customer service is, IMHO the best in the business. I have DirectTV, Comcast home phone and internet and AT&T cell phone.

2013 TV Thread
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 11:30 AM) I missed SOA last night because 2 of my cable boxes decided to take a crap 5 minutes before the show started. The main box was making the picture on the TV huge so that it was literally cutting it off on all 4 sides. I tried adjusting the picture settings on both the TV and the box to no avail. When I unplugged it and tried to switch it with one in another room they both quit working completely. I called Comcast's completely unhelpful customer service and they are going to send a tech out tomorrow. After an hour or so I got about half my channels back on one of the boxes but it was completely random which channels I got. All the basic local channels (ABC, NBC, FOX, etc...) and a handful of cable channels. This morning when I checked it I had everything except FX. The other cable box was still DOA. So here's a nice big FU to Comcast and their s***ty equipment. SOA was solid last night probably best episode of season. Show is still pretty good.

Hawk is a Ford Frick finalist
QUOTE (ron883 @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 03:54 PM) It will be a mockery to the award if hawk wins it. horrible, horrible announcer. Yet somehow he has been doing it since 1975. When he was the color man alongside Don Drysdale he was fantastic. Over the years he has gotten a little rough but he is still pretty good compared to other guys.

Hahn:Ventura will return in 2014
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 01:54 PM) The White Sox organization isn't going back to Guillen again. The one guy who would allow it to happen is 77 years old and making plans for his death. If Hahn and Guillen are on the same page, it makes sense.

Jeff Manto fired
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 29, 2013 -> 11:26 PM) A hitting coach who actually preaches OBP is fine with me. His comments when hired should have gotten him fired the next day. He was not a believer in OBP and as such they are where they are.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 09:26 AM) We know what happened to Skylar. Her life was ruined, her work was gone, her son probably hated her, and she was alone in the world. Even at the end she didn't even have her sister to talk to, without her begging to pick up the phone. She is miserable and deserted. I really think you see that it is Skylar that does not want to talk Marie and you would think that in time that would work out. The $9M comes into everyone's life and things move on. I thought the ending was perfect. They even got Badger and Skinny Pete into the action. Really tied things up tremendously well.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 01:36 PM) They knew where they ultimately wanted to go with Walt, but most of the episode plots evolved over the course of a season, e.g. Jesse was supposed to die in Season 1. I did not mean they literally had every script written I just meant the story arc was completed. I really hope that the Walking Dead has an end point

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 09:08 AM) I'd say more like 20% I still think they tried to make too many episodes of Lost . The good thing about Breaking bad is there was always an end point and better yet the entire story was completed before the series even began shooting. Lost, lost its way by trying to be quasi-sci-fi and tehn kind of drifted away.

2013 TV Thread
The thing about Lost was it was 121 episodes long. Breaking bad is in total 62 episodes. Lost was expected to churn out more content and in such the writing really suffered. Seinfeld for me as Rock put it is right there in the conversation. Also the Sopranos and Wire were on channels without commercials and allowed more edgy language and explicit opportunities.

2013 TV Thread
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 12:01 PM) nah it's true. It's a good show but people calling it the greatest of all time and putting it next to the Wire and Sopranos are so far off. It's closer to something like Homeland. Over the top, unrealistic when you stop and think, and completely ridiculous at times but you'll still enjoy it if you turn your brain off for an hour a week. It is still great TV. I watched the entire series of the Wire over the summer. It was a great show but it had some slower moments that Breaking Bad does not. There was nothing as gripping to bring you back week after week like Breaking Bad does.
