I am stuck the start of season 3 of the Wire. I need to get back into it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 09:23 AM) How many are dead so far? My interest in the Chicago White Sox is dead because of it.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 10:15 AM) Yeah. I mean he's proven that he can barrel up first pitch fastballs over the center of the plate. I can't hold my breath until I see him hit when pitchers have a better plan for him. Not trying to be cynical. The White Sox have a roster full of guys that pop up the center cut fastball.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 02:28 PM) Why couldn't they get anything for him? That has nothing to do with Wells. I think it was his numbers declined a little bit and he was getting the reputation of not really caring. The 2010 BP when discussing Rios mentioned "the gaggle of scouts who think he just doesn't give a damn". Didn't they claim him on waivers and the Jays wanted players the Sox said no but we will take the whole salary and poof here he is. They were blocking the Tigers at the time

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 01:21 PM) I call BS. Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS 4m in big switch, #cubs now talking about signing Matt Garza to long-term deal. http://cbsprt.co/18IN1sL I believe this, they are not getting the starting pitcher that they need and until last year he was reliable. He is a clubhouse headache which is probably scaring everyone, including the cubs away.

Seems that the theo and jed spending spree is not as free wheeling as originally thought.

The guy that I bought the paper from every morning was shoot and killed a half hour before I would have bought it last week. He was shoot on the corner of 99th and Halsted not a good neighborhood but somewhat safe especially at 7:00 in morning. People getting on the Dan Ryan going to work witnessed it. Two guys come up behind him and shoot him 10 times, they were shooting into traffic as well. No regard at all for any human life. Chicago, especially the south, east and west sides are getting really close to falling into disarray. I could give a s*** what the stats say. At least there is some media coverage about it now as the Trib had a nice write-up about it. Armed robberies, home invasion, etc. are becoming commonplace throughout these parts of the city in the middle of the day.

Didn't hawk talk about him for the first three months of the season because of his spring a couple of years back?

Konerko/Crain to DL - Purcey/Morel called up

Anyone think this is the White Sox shutting him down in order to keep him from being injured until they can trade him? -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 11:05 PM) Are you Dan Berstein? What inefficiency have they exploited here? They had the second largest bonus pool because their team sucked balls last year. That reason alone gives them an edge with the top players. It doesn't make Theo & Jed genuises. Throw $4M at the wall and hope some of it sticks, not a bad move but nothing earth shattering.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 08:38 AM) Still better than what the Rays have gotten from that deal to this point. They are 21 and 23 years old and are the Rays number 2 and 3 rated prospects. Also saved the Rays some money which is what they needed. You think that trade will help the cubs when they need talent in two years? The rays have not missed Garza and have two highly rated prospects to boot. The cubs are almost 50 games under .500 with Garza.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 10:50 PM) Unless they trade a package of Baez, Vogelbach, etc. for Price Tampa would not take Baez. The cubs were pantsed in the Garza deal. The fluff of prospect hype behind the cubs will not get them price. I think the braves land him or Arizona.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 10:52 PM) That seems to be the case with ex Patriot coaches. Geniuses control everything.

Always good to bring in good former players to be around the organization. Just do not make them the manager.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 10:45 PM) Seems like they'll go with Samardzija, Wood, Jackson and two pitchers outside the organization next season Right and they are no closer to having a sustainable rotation. Pitching is hard to come by which is why Hahn's job is easier than Theo and Theo has made no inroads in this area. Sale solves a major rebuilding issue.

Adam Dunn is fourth in baseball in home runs. Two guys ahead of him are triple crown candidates. Teams need that. This is not 2003, power is a premium and Dunn has it.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 08:20 PM) Two straight years now where Theo and company did a great job of signing someone with the sole purpose of hoping they performed well so they could trade them. Maholm last year, and now Feldman. Except they have no arms on the horizon. Arrieta will be 29 before that team has any chance. Really not rocket science, they need a rotation and are not finding one. They tried with Baker and will do so this offseason.

I hated danks before he got hurt, seems to be pitching better now than before. Not stuff speed etc. But pitching

I watch the Wire on HBO GO when I have some free time and I like it but do not think it is any better than a good show. What am I missing? I am only 3 episodes into season 3 BTW.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 01:04 PM) +1. Boring, boring, boring, then excellent finale. What I think is happening with me, is that I am watching this short run series (Mad Men, GOT, SOA, Breaking Bad) when I watch them all at once to catch up they seem awesome then the time off is so great that I am expecting something that cannot be achieved and thus I am not happy with the show. This past February I watched GOT over a three week span and it was awesome then when I watched it weekly it was frustrating.

Sox Will Sell; Everyone But Sale and Konerko on Block
Harry Chappas replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 03:08 PM) This whole paragraph is just so wrong. Mitchell was a guy with incredible physical tools who had been unable to commit himself to baseball full-time because he also played football. The hope was that by focusing on baseball he'd be able to develop the skills necessary to become a legitimate superstar a la Carl Crawford. At no point did anyone think he was anything close to a finished product when he was drafted. The product they got was the finished product in that he never attained the skills they hoped he would when he was drafted. -

Few things, Ramirez can play second and third and spent some time (all be it two days I believe in CF) there is a real market for him as he has great versatility Sale, Santiago, and Quintana are three things you start a rebuild with This team needs a change in offensive philosophy the TWTW is not the answer OBP is and this team has non of it. Trade it all right now Mr Hahn the fans are done with this team, your table is ready, enjoy. -
When all of wrigley field is covered in a paper bag as bad as that franchise has been.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 02:29 PM) Joe Crede is retired and watching his kids grow up. Sounds like he still has some back problems. Joe Crede is playing softball with his brother back in his hometown where he is a legend.

Mets @ White Sox in "A GAME OF LOLS"

The white sox drop more easy popups and flyballs than all MLB teams combined
