Buehrle Wants a Five Year Contract
Buerhle and Garland are guys you build a franchise around. We choose to do it with Contrearas and Vazquez because they were cheap. If our minor league system didn't suck so bad we would actaully have a bright future to build around Thome and Konerko. Last night was a prime example of what happens when your leadoff hitter gets on more than once a week. I would like to keep all of the starters and fill in the line-up with hitters getting 3-5M each.

Anyone watching the Cubs?
Did I hear correctly that Lee got 6 games and the appeal will be heard this week? If he and Ramirez miss this weekend, it could be interesting.

Mets Interested in Buehrle?
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 02:17 PM) Zambrano isn't going anywhere unless the Cubs go on a White Sox-esque slump. I was talking in the offseason. I think the Mets would trade for Buerhle now, let him walk, then sign Zambrano.

Mets Interested in Buehrle?
I think the Mets will go hard at Zambrano. Thus the Sox could get him back via FA and the nice players while the Mets make a run at the WS and get two draft picks.

Erstad - Where is he?
He is eligible to come off the DL Saturday. Any word on where he is and what he is up to? Although I believe the season is a formality I'd still like to keep it respectable.

QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 12:29 PM) Doing the right thing isnt always the popular thing. But when we can look back in a few years and see how the pieces brought in as part of the deal have helped the orgranization it can be looked back as a major part of building our franchise, much like Cleveland can look at the Colon trade. Cleveland right now is 25th in attendance ahead of only KC, Pittsburgh, Washington, and the two Florida teams. They have arguably the best team in baesball and were projected so coming into the season. Where are all of the fans? If the pieces that are brought in end up being, Borchard, Anderson, Fields, Munoz or Felix Diaz, these trades will not work. This is a huge gamble if you think fans will simply show up and give KW the benefit of the doubt. You saw it during hte first Yankee sereis as the tickets prices were very high and the last Yankee series cemented it. You will see a ton of vacant seats this year and unless prices drop or spending is up the fanbase will alienate a rebuilding phase.

Jim Thome
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 10:51 AM) There is absolutely nothing written anywhere which would require the Sox to send along any of that $20 million they got from the Phillies in any deal sending out Jim. He's paid $14 mil total per year, it's just that 1/2 of that is covered by the money from the Phils. But since Jim proved he could come back from that injury, his value has gone right back up. The PR nightmare is that he costs them $7M and is very cheap in this day and age. I would think they could move him without giving the cash and use it elsewhere. Now image the PR nightmare if the FA market doesn't pan out and the money is not reinvested......

Do you want a PR nightmare....... 1) Why did Konerko resign for less money - Thome 2) Nicest (Personality and at the plate) player I think I have ever witnessed - Thome 3) $7M a year for real good numbers - Thome The White Sox were on the verge of overcoming the mass negativity generated from Reinsdorf being cheap, the White Flag and the strike. I know KW should tune this out and do what is best for the franchise but trading Thome or Buerhle would be suicide. Now if they traded Thome and kept the Phillie money and resigned Buerhle, maybe. I beleive a 90 loss season and a strtch drive by the cubs culd really hurt this team. Ichiro will not hit free agency if Seattle makes a run at the playoffs.

Buehrle Trade Idea
At some point over the next couple of weeks, sooner rather then later, the White Sox need to sit down with Buerhle and his agent and find what he wants. If he is traded and there is no talk of bringing him back that would be a poor organizational move. I understand it would be tampering but I am sure that happens all of the time. Buerhle is a bright enough guy to go to a team and come back next season knowing that the organization is better for loaning him to a contendor. Here is the problem with that, Buerhle's wife is due to have a baby at the end of July. If he is not consulted on the deal you can kiss him and any benefits good-bye for next season. If I am KW I take nothing less that highway robbery, explain the deal to Buerhle, him and guarantee that they will make a serious run at him in the offseason and lay out the long term plans of hte organization. I doubt any of this happens and he is moved for two AA pitchers and journeyman 4th outfielder. All of which make for good AAP's and nothing more.

White Sox vs. Phillies, 6/13/07 (L)
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 03:01 PM) Wow, I think we're actually guaranteed to make it through our full lineup 4 times. Does anyone else think it's been a while since that happened? By one hitter. Owens "still not running well" thanks Ed how about the hitting. Phils are not that good at all. 3-15- in last 18.......... Well at least all of the teams are under .500 0-18 would have been hard to take.

White Sox vs. Phillies, 6/13/07 (L)
The average of the 9 hitters in the Gameday line-up right now is .197 (Logan at .000). This team sucks.

White Sox vs. Phillies, 6/13/07 (L)
1 hit in the last 5 innings. AJ swings first or second pitch when we need runners. Sorry to those that think he is worth something but he is quickly becoming Uribe Jr. For he to think that he should not be platooned is stupid .238 average and .287 OBP...also his defense is non-existant as any ball in the dirt is a WP and runners steal at will.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 02:00 PM) Rowand to hit...every ex-Sox player kills them. Sliders away please. Ah the Rowand talk'll never end now. He just teased us earlier. Yep it 's the bullpen's fault.

4 pitch walk to barajas Simply sad that is all i can say about this team right now. Sad

White Sox vs. Phillies, 6/13/07 (L)
Abraham f***ing Nunez. Well they have given the Phils plenty of opportunity to embarass themselves and finally the Phils are taking advantage of it. The point made earlier of Ozzie making sure guys play the right way....that is funny as nobody on this team does except maybe Garland, Thome, Jenks and Buerhle.

White Sox vs. Phillies, 6/13/07 (L)
This could be the most pathetic display of playing and managing I have witnessed. Lead off hit. No pinch hitter Four guys take 2,3,3, and 2 pitches. My lord this is nauseating. Oh and with the off day tomorrow everyone but Masset should pitch today. The stupidity of this team is incredible.
-
White Sox vs. Phillies, 6/13/07 (L)
It is amazing how hitters can take a close pitch while the White Sox moron hitters feel the need to swing at anything close to pop out or hit the twelve hopper to second.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 02:00 PM) What did Uribe do now? Took his time on a grounder and the runner ran and beat it out. Game tied on GO. I am really starting to not like Uribe and AJ. Another pitching change. Why isn't the pen used like this when the Sox were in contention?????

White Sox vs. Phillies, 6/13/07 (L)
Turning into typical Sox finish. Pitcher at 82 pitches, made him throw 10 in that inning............ Anyone smell an identical score as last night's game? At least Uribe has that steller defense to back-up the .200 average. Shouldn't every team loaf down the line like the Sox do. I thought that was an unwritten rule.

White Sox vs. Phillies, 6/13/07 (L)
Nice K on Howard. Bullpen time, this inning just keeps getting uglier. At this point in the season, he should have left him in just to try and get the win. If the Sox were a game out and playing the Indians on the last day of the season he would've stayed with him. Why the hell not. Farmer just said he pitched a pretty good game. WHIP of almost 2 and possibly 4 runs in 4.2 innings....
-
White Sox vs. Phillies, 6/13/07 (L)
This inning is getting ugly really fast. Danks not looking good at all. 100 pitches in 4.1 innings. This should be his last batter. 15 pitches to Utley and Victorino.
-
White Sox vs. Phillies, 6/13/07 (L)
Owens really does not need to leadoff anymore.

QUOTE(TheOcho @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 01:21 PM) I saw that... just the one play it looked like Cintron was diving from short.. I must be seeing things. If they play a big shift on Howard they may switch position and have Uribe cover more ground as the 2B. I always wondered why teams did not do this more when the overswitch type thing was in play. You probably were just watching the game via a reflection in a window or mirror. Danks has seen more pitches today than AJ has for the last two weeks combined.
