  1. Your political compass Economic Left/Right: 0.88 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.21 I'm a libertarian who trusts private business not to screw me/ the planet over only slightly more than I trust government.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) Bailout package has FAILED in the house. Dow down 500+ points, approaching 600. Major indices down 5 to 6% on the day Falling, yes I am falling... Dow down over 6%, S&P down over 7%. Ouch. edit: in between the time I looked on google news and posted this response (1 minute), the Dow had shot up from -660 to -527. I *think* the market is a little volatile right now...
  3. I decided to buy an Xbox 360 over the weekend on an impulse. I know it's a little old but I'm having fun going through Halo 3 on legendary. Messed around a little with Portal from Orange Box, too.
  4. Comcast is the devil. If I could switch to satellite (I'm in a condo, no dishes allowed), I would do it in a heartbeat. Comcast charges a lot (don't be lured in by their 12 month promotional periods - rates after that are significantly higher!), doesn't seem to offer anything more than satellite (I don't find much use for OnDemand), and their customer service is awful. I have even more problems with my internet service. It's 50/50 if it'll work at any given time without having to cycle the modem. Several techs and hours on phone support haven't resolved the issue. Oh, and they have monthly caps now, too. I believe there is more compression on satellite signals due to bandwidth vs. channels issues. You might notice a slight difference in picture on two identical sets, but I don't know for sure.
  5. I'd modify/ improve it. I wouldn't have a problem using the same basic guts of the paper, though.
  6. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 28, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) what happened? Konerko's foot was clearly on the bag and the ball beat the runner by 1/2 a step but the umpire has serious vision problems.
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) This Couric interview doesn't seem to be getting much better for Palin. We shouldn't ever second guess Israel's decisions because it would send the message that we'd allow a second Holocaust? "And such as..."
  8. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 12:37 PM) The final CEO of WaMu, Alan Fishman was in charge all of three weeks. What does he get for his troubles? He gets to keep his 7.5 million dollar signing bonus. Plus severance of 11.6 million in cash. Now that is finding advantage in a troubled economy. http://finance.yahoo.com/tech-ticker/artic...AC,C,XLF,WFC,WB Let's assume that he worked 15 hour days, seven days a week trying to right that ship. That works out to about $60,000/ hr.
  9. QUOTE (alexgtp @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 11:43 AM) White Sox have surpassed everyones expectations. How is that being a failure? They were picked to finish last. This board picked them to finish 3-4. I A division title would be nice. A WS title even better. I for one an estatic at how well the Sox have performed this year. I will be at the games all weekend rooting my team into the post season. This board really needs to be more positive. They exceeded the expected win total by about 5 games (wasn't the average around here 82-83 games?). Minnesota and Chicago are contending because Cleveland and Detriot did much, much worse than everyone thought they would, not because the Sox and Twins were much, much better.
  10. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 01:07 PM) Have you guys seen the ads with the doctors talking about melanoma and then questioning whether it affects McCain's ability to lead? It really makes me cringe. that is a seriously low blow.
  11. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 09:45 AM) As a Democrat, I love the choice of Sarah Palin as McCain's running mate. As an American, I'm somewhat worried that there's a possibility that she could actually become Vice President. Every time she opens her mouth, its an embarrassment. She reminds me of that Miss Teen USA pageant Laura Upton who was asked why she thinks one fifth of Americans can't locate the US on a map. I've been thinking the same thing. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 10:59 AM) I AM SHOUTING STEVE I had to stifle my laughter in the office.
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 09:42 AM) As a commentator, I actually really like Mike Huckabee. Huckabee seems like a genuinely nice, likeable guy. He just has some crazy ideas is all. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 09:52 AM) McCain is suspending his campaign suspension to debate. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0908/13970.html It's beginning to remind me of Dwight's shunning of Andrew on The Office.
  13. QUOTE (The Critic @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 07:50 AM) I say they compromise and use fat, arrogant, unapproachable video replay machines. They need to have a bunch of bells, whistles, and lights to make themselves the center of attention, too.
  14. QUOTE (Cali @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 08:15 PM) I've always heard of this band, but never actually heard them. But, I dug the s*** out of the first song they played on SNL last weekend. There's some good songs on the new CD (like Sex on Fire, I think that's the first one they played), but overall its just very...blah. If you like that song, you should check out either of their first two albums.
  15. Tee times are being made for October as we speak.
  16. QUOTE (The Beast @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 11:11 PM) No way. If they do full-blown instant replay, I am going to quit my job as an umpire. I could easily be a barista. The human aspect of the game is what makes this game so unique and wonderful. Blown calls do not make this game wonderful or unique.
  17. QUOTE (G&T @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) I disagree. Just ask Jerry Manuel when he was pulling starters in 2000 and the pen blew the games (not that the offense helped). Plenty of managers will go to the pen because they think they have to. I'll give you that Ozzie's style is to let his starters pitch, but that has backfired on him plenty of times. See: 2006, most Vazquez starts in the 6th inning/ 3rd time through the order.
  18. That's like a remedial POLI course answer, and it'd get an F. Every answer I have seen her give has been either an attack on "my opponent" or a non-related, ultra-basic-talking-points rambling. She rarely comes close to ever actually answering anything.
  19. I'm disappointed in the new Kings of Leon CD. It's very mediocre. What happened to rocking out?
  20. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) When servers start getting paid a living wage outside of tipping, tipping would likely go away slowly. Yep, tipping is built into their wages and your prices. If the restaurant owners had to pay them what they make in tips now, you'd see your meal prices rise accordingly and you'd pay about the same. Except now, you have no recourse for bad service. I do laugh at the "tip" line on some receipts at fast food places, though.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 07:26 AM) So killing animals on purpose in a factory farm = harvesting vegetables (because an occasional animal might get killed by a tractor) I honestly don't think I've heard of a dumber argument to justify factory farming. That same argument is used by some nut jobs to promote only eating fruit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fruitarian
  22. Notice that they said nothing about the $280,000 earrings, which make up 93% of that $300k cost.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 06:16 AM) There is always this too. Just because she gives a 101 answer, doesn't mean she doesn't know it on a 401 level. You risk alienating a lot more people the more detail you get into. Its the same reason Obama stayed vague for the first year of his campaign, and ran for President after two years in Congress instead of 6. The less that other party has to pick apart of your record, the better. I could buy that if she ever let a 401 answer slip out. Hell, even a 201 answer. She just hasn't demonstrated any strong knowledge at this point.
  24. They had Boof Bonser and Blackburn pitching at different times in this game, and the Sox only managed 2 runs. That's just pathetic.
