QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 11:37 AM) Is there more than the gif? I can't tell intent at all from that little clip. HuffPo has the video, but it's the same shot. Looks to me like he throws his shoulder into him. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/20/j..._n_4632646.html If that guy didn't know Lane was coming, he wouldn't have been able to take the hit like he did. And several other SF people jumped out of the way.

I haven't seen him identified anywhere.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) He hit him on the upper back across his shoulders. Had he been turned around, he would have hit him under the facemask in the neck. You can also say the same thing about Ahmad Brooks' sack on Drew Brees and Dan Skuta's sack of Cam Newton. The NFL's penalty system is way, way, way too inconsistent right now and there are just bad calls all around. It wasn't why they lost, but the Niners got hosed that game. I was surprised it wasn't called, and had he been facing the other way, it would have been much, much worse.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 11:26 AM) On that same exact play, Lockette clotheslined James too. Had James been facing forward rather than having his back turned, it would have been a penalty and would have put the 49ers 15 yards forward. I also said earlier that I thought that guy should be fired. Bare minimum, he will be reprimanded heavily. It looked brutal live but on the replay he hit James across the shoulder blades.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 07:58 PM) You seem surprised. Is today your first day on the Internet? Lol/:(

No, we're doing a good job of kicking the earth out of that nice, relatively stable climate. edit: unless you're going with a "the only way to save the village was to burn it to the ground" angle...

Freedom Industries, the company behind the W.Va chemical spill, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy today. http://www.wvgazette.com/News/201401170030 The company lacks umbrella insurance and does not appear to have adequate coverage to pay the many claims that will be heading its way. http://www.wvgazette.com/News/201401160158?page=1

OMG WHO CARES

No, I saw some speculation that it could but I don't think I posted anything here. It's hard to link any specific weather phenomenon to global warming.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 05:36 PM) This is why people want it to be called climate change. It won't always be warmer where you are, but it will always be more extreme FWIW "climate change" was a Frank Luntz GOP messaging invention because it sounds less threatening.

Here is your problem: you read editorials in newspapers. They are pretty much universally terrible and dumb. Also, blaming Obama for the changing media landscape, which has been changing for over a decade, seems rather...odd.

parts of United States of America and Canada doesn't equal the entire globe. At the same time we had a cold week or two, Australia is having record heat. It's also much longer term than "weather in your area over the last month or so." I don't see any recent posts of yours in this thread though so I don't know what you're referring to. eta: bs delete your post right now

US District Court Judge strikes down Oklahoma's gay marriage ban unlike Utah, though, OK's AG office isn't incompetent/understaffed and filed the right paperwork to get a stay on issuing marriage licenses in place.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 02:28 PM) Read this and cried: http://www.nba.com/standings/team_record_c...ew_Std_Cnf.html 14 teams have worse records than the 17-19 bulls. lol NBA

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 10:40 PM) Aubrey Plaza seems like one of those actresses/comedians that's either going be hated or loved, it's hard to be in-between about her, a lot like Sarah Silverman or Melissa McCarthy. I love her in parks and rec, though

I went heels-up walking off of a frozen pond and knocked myself out cold when I was little. Head trauma is kind of a thing with me.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 07:54 AM) And while I'm at it, 15megapixels vs 8megapixels is just as useless since that's a minor part of what makes a picture good. A bigger sensor beneath an 8mp camera is far superior to a tiny sensor beneath a 40mp capture. I really despise these hardware spec sheets that often mean little to nothing. e.g. a $6000 Nikon might have 'only' 16.2MP, but that doesn't mean it's inferior in any way to a $200 point-and-shoot with 40MP.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 11:12 PM) Just announced. Our friendly, benevolent government at work. Let's give them more power. You just did a good job of unintentionally ridiculing the idea that liberals always want more government in every way.

duh, just stay at shack's

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 04:51 PM) I hate the fundies as much as you do, FYI. I didn't think you were arguing for abortion restrictions, but I see a pretty huge logical disconnect in your statement there. It's reasonable to give men an "opt out" especially because women are often restricted from the same choice? That's the part that doesn't make any sense to me.
-
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 04:39 PM) 100% agree. Totally reasonable, especially with all the crappy state laws that give women like 10 hours to decide whether or not to abort. Wait, how is that reasonable in states where women have really restrictive abortion options or where abortions are de facto illegal or unobtainable? The woman doesn't have the "opt out" ability in that circumstance, but a man would. It only becomes arguably reasonable if women have at least as long as men to decide and widespread, affordable and easily accessible access to abortion.

Related to abortion, though, the SC declined to review the Arizona abortion case that ruled their 20-week ban as unconstitutional. http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/supreme-court-d...s-abortion-case

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) Record speed you two! Both sarcastic one-liners too. If a woman can choose not to have a child a man should be able to make the same choice. Right? Equality is something you guys still like, correct? Either that or you ban abortions. Then it'll make sense because both people have their hands tied. I prefer the let people abort option personally, less kids = happier Duke. This still makes literally zero sense in the context of planned, wanted children conceived in a committed relationship, in this case a marriage. They both wanted kids, and then later they got divorced. I mean even in the context where the argument is at least applicable it's still terrible and misses the whole point, but it's just not relevant here.
