  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 02:25 PM) You want the media to filter what they tell people. Id rather they dont. Even if that means something bad will happen, id rather we are told the truth, than lied to/omitted because our media overlords didnt believe that we could handle it. Reporters always make choices on what information to publish for a wide variety of reasons. Not everything is relevant or worth publishing.
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 08:18 PM) Frankly I think the extent Simmons went to apologize is a bit nauseating. 15 smart, intelligent, long-time editors/journalists peer-reviewed that piece, and not one of them thought of the 10 things he's apologizing for. That to me is a sign that this story is a non-story. How many of those 15 people have any experience with or exposure to transsexualism such that they'd recognize the problems? In fact, Simmons explicitly makes this point:
  3. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 11:46 AM) I don't think what the guy on the 49ers sideline was all that bad. Maybe it's the angle of the camera, but it looks like he doesn't get out of the way. That will happen on all most every sideline. No one is going to help you. I think the player on the Seahawks trips on the first down marker. He turns and puts out his shoulder to absorb the blow instead of just getting out of the way like several other people on the SF sideline.
  4. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 11:38 AM) The Seahawks want to talk about a dirty play by the 49ers on the sideline. The team with most PED suspensions in the league. That's rich. How does the Seahawks using PEDs negate what the SF guy (apparently) did?
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 11:37 AM) Is there more than the gif? I can't tell intent at all from that little clip. HuffPo has the video, but it's the same shot. Looks to me like he throws his shoulder into him. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/20/j..._n_4632646.html If that guy didn't know Lane was coming, he wouldn't have been able to take the hit like he did. And several other SF people jumped out of the way.
  6. I haven't seen him identified anywhere.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) He hit him on the upper back across his shoulders. Had he been turned around, he would have hit him under the facemask in the neck. You can also say the same thing about Ahmad Brooks' sack on Drew Brees and Dan Skuta's sack of Cam Newton. The NFL's penalty system is way, way, way too inconsistent right now and there are just bad calls all around. It wasn't why they lost, but the Niners got hosed that game. I was surprised it wasn't called, and had he been facing the other way, it would have been much, much worse.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 11:26 AM) On that same exact play, Lockette clotheslined James too. Had James been facing forward rather than having his back turned, it would have been a penalty and would have put the 49ers 15 yards forward. I also said earlier that I thought that guy should be fired. Bare minimum, he will be reprimanded heavily. It looked brutal live but on the replay he hit James across the shoulder blades.
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 10:02 AM) FACE lolwut
  10. so what would it be? either an automatic one point or a two point try?
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 07:58 PM) You seem surprised. Is today your first day on the Internet? Lol/:(
  12. No, we're doing a good job of kicking the earth out of that nice, relatively stable climate. edit: unless you're going with a "the only way to save the village was to burn it to the ground" angle...
  13. Freedom Industries, the company behind the W.Va chemical spill, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy today. http://www.wvgazette.com/News/201401170030 The company lacks umbrella insurance and does not appear to have adequate coverage to pay the many claims that will be heading its way. http://www.wvgazette.com/News/201401160158?page=1
  14. No, I saw some speculation that it could but I don't think I posted anything here. It's hard to link any specific weather phenomenon to global warming.
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 05:36 PM) This is why people want it to be called climate change. It won't always be warmer where you are, but it will always be more extreme FWIW "climate change" was a Frank Luntz GOP messaging invention because it sounds less threatening.

Here is your problem: you read editorials in newspapers. They are pretty much universally terrible and dumb. Also, blaming Obama for the changing media landscape, which has been changing for over a decade, seems rather...odd.
  17. parts of United States of America and Canada doesn't equal the entire globe. At the same time we had a cold week or two, Australia is having record heat. It's also much longer term than "weather in your area over the last month or so." I don't see any recent posts of yours in this thread though so I don't know what you're referring to. eta: bs delete your post right now
  18. US District Court Judge strikes down Oklahoma's gay marriage ban unlike Utah, though, OK's AG office isn't incompetent/understaffed and filed the right paperwork to get a stay on issuing marriage licenses in place.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 02:28 PM) Read this and cried: http://www.nba.com/standings/team_record_c...ew_Std_Cnf.html 14 teams have worse records than the 17-19 bulls. lol NBA

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 10:40 PM) Aubrey Plaza seems like one of those actresses/comedians that's either going be hated or loved, it's hard to be in-between about her, a lot like Sarah Silverman or Melissa McCarthy. I love her in parks and rec, though
  21. I went heels-up walking off of a frozen pond and knocked myself out cold when I was little. Head trauma is kind of a thing with me.
  22. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 07:54 AM) And while I'm at it, 15megapixels vs 8megapixels is just as useless since that's a minor part of what makes a picture good. A bigger sensor beneath an 8mp camera is far superior to a tiny sensor beneath a 40mp capture. I really despise these hardware spec sheets that often mean little to nothing. e.g. a $6000 Nikon might have 'only' 16.2MP, but that doesn't mean it's inferior in any way to a $200 point-and-shoot with 40MP.
  23. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 11:12 PM) Just announced. Our friendly, benevolent government at work. Let's give them more power. You just did a good job of unintentionally ridiculing the idea that liberals always want more government in every way.
