  1. QUOTE (mike65 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 03:40 PM) OK, guys, we have news or at least a rumor of news. On a Cardinals board (associated with the Post Dispatch), someone just posted that the WS want Adams, Freese, and Joe Kelly for Ramirez and Peavy. Supposedly, this was just mentioned on a Chicago sports talk radio station. The hang-up apparently is Freese, who the Cardinals don't want to trade. Take it for what it's worth. P.S. Supposedly, it is a FOX affiliated station. Interesting...if that is true, it shows that we really aren't looking at a long rebuilding process here
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 02:16 PM) Because those numbers are improving entirely due to improvements in medical care, not due to decreases in numbers of shootings. The total number of shootings per year recorded by the CDC has actually increased by about 10,000 over that same time period, from 93,000 to about 104,000 (you have to add the deaths to the injuries reported at this website). More people are being shot every year. Fewer are dying, but more are being shot. Either guns are becoming less effective, people are becoming worse shots (guns allowed in bars as the cause?) or medical care has gotten better. It's medical care. Well, they do say whatever doesn't kill me only makes me stronger...
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 12:31 PM) It would really suck to take an offer less than the Cubs got for Garza since one option should have been to call up the Rangers before the Garza deal was completed and say "We'll give you Peavy instead of Garza for that offer". Yeah, and who knows whether those discussions occurred or not. But really, in the long term outlook for the White Sox, what is going to be more remembered? Whether the outlook on the prospects at the time of the trade was higher than what the Cubs got for Garza, or whether the prospects the White Sox accepted for Peavy turn out to be any good?
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 12:29 PM) and i'm sure you know you'd probably lose him to some team offering a 7 year deal. I'm sure he'd probably sign a 1-year deal for $15 million or so and try to re-establish his long term value by answering the critics.
  5. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 12:23 PM) You're right. Hopefully there's a team that will offer up a nice package that benefits the Sox. Just dumping Peavy's salary for something off another team's scrap heap doesn't do the team any good. I think that if the Sox don't get a good enough offer for Peavy, they'll hold onto him. Yes, but it still might also make sense for the White Sox to accept a package that is less than what the Cubs got for Garza. Other than setting the market for assets, the Rangers-Cubs deal has very little to do with the future health of the White Sox. So while that is definitely a factor, it isn't really as relevant as some think it should be.
  6. I don't know that it is that simple, guys. It depends how liquid the market is for him. If there aren't enough suitors, then you can stomp your feet all day long and say "the price was set with Garza," but if no one is willing to pay it, then no one is willing to pay it. Hahn still has to do what is best for the White Sox. That isn't dictated solely by what the Rangers paid for Garza.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 11:52 AM) I have no idea, it's hard to say. His positive test was in the 2011 NLDS, which was right after his MVP season. He didn't just come out of nowhere though, he was a high first round draft pick out of Miami. Unless he has been juicing the whole time, including his college days, I would think he has enough talent to keep hitting at a decent level. I'm going to assume that he hasn't been juicing his entire career...although I admit, I was wrong about him juicing in the first place...he's been an awfully good player for a long time now...I think his PED-less performance would be a bit better than you're giving him credit for, but I could certainly be wrong, as I was about him before.
  8. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) Peavy, Alexei, Rios, and Reed all make a ton of sense for Boston as well. Then we could just merge organizations and become THE SOX
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) If it were, there would be plenty of teams looking to sign him as a free agent. He may not be an MVP off of the juice, but I think he'd still be a pretty good hitter. Are you assuming he's been on some form of PED's since he came into the league?
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 11:35 AM) Cruz's problem is free agency. If he takes the hit now like Braun did, he could sign as a tainted FA but able to play in April if someone signs him. If he waits until the offseason and MLB wins 100 games, then he's a guy who a team will sign knowing he won't play until August. The former makes a helluva lot more sense to me. I wonder if the Rangers could head that problem off by signing him to an extension? Might be worth it for them if they want to give themselves the best shot this year. Or, he still might be better off fighting it and then just signing a small one-year deal in the middle of next year (if he was to get suspended for the first half of the year) and then try and cash in in 2015?
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 11:24 AM) Actually I'm not sure. I saw someone say on Twitter that he was, but now I'm reading that they haven't announced anything. And I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. Don't need to be giving any leverage away.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) I'm just judging you because you are black. He is?!? *ignore*
  13. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 10:07 AM) Facebook feeds can give you an actual glimpse into someones life. Just look at their timeline...pictures of their 7$ Starbucks, their steak at Cap Grille, and an endless stream of bars, where beers are 5$ each, when a 12 pack at the store is 9$. Those feeds can show you why they're broke, and it sure as hell isn't the "man" keeping them down. Hey, someone has to contribute to our economy!
  14. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 09:56 AM) He gets bad reads in CF, and his baserunning instincts are borderline laughable. How (and when) could that be correctable? He was cheap to get and we maxed out his value. I won't miss him. He goes back on the ball terribly in center. He is definitely a LF. His instincts were not that terrible on the basepaths last year. Do you think he just suddenly forgot how? I think he's trying too hard because he realizes if he continues to play well he could have a big payday in front of him eventually. He probably also realizes the team sucks this year so he may as well try and improve his individual stats as much as possible. Fangraphs has him at $5.2 million thus far this year, which would put him around $8 million or so at the end of the year. Considering what he makes, I do not know that we have maxed out his value quite yet. Maybe after 2014?
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 09:47 AM) I don't get De Aza. He is the face for this weird two years. Last year he did no wrong in the field and on the basepaths until very late in the year. Then over the winter he lost his baseball IQ. Well, he's definitely not a CF, and his baserunning has left something to be desired, to say the least, but those things can be corrected. The important thing is that he can actually hit and steal bases, and he is relatively affordable. Those things are not necessarily commonplace.
  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 09:08 AM) I think it will be a complete tear down that will include De Aza and Reed. Give the fans 6 weeks of seeing the guys they get in the deals and the season ticket erosion might not be as great as you'd think. I'd be disappointed if they deal De Aza, unless they get something really nice for him...the guy seems to really be underappreciated here.
  17. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 08:47 AM) I think Peavy gets traded and nabs 1-2 top 100 players, Lindstrom goes for nothing, and Crain goes for a B level pitcher. I hope we get something decent for Lindstrom...he's putting a few too many guys on base, but he's not allowing them to score...I'd like to think we can get something of value for him.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 09:19 PM) Just got back from seeing Jim Gaffigan. He killed it. I am still kicking myself for missing his show at the MGM back in May...going to have to see him next time around...guy is very underrated.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 08:34 AM) No, I could really care less. I don't think this team is far off, even if the record indicates otherwise. I think you go out and get a legitimate CF next year (and move De Aza to LF), deal Viciedo off in a package for a solid, youngish 3B, and you have a fairly competitive team in those two moves. And, even with this said, if they sell off 3-7 pieces, I think a change would be refreshing. More than anything else, I want the season to be over Or maybe Matt Thornton in 2006
  20. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 08:21 AM) I know there still is 8 days left but I want a trade to happen with Rios Crain or Peavy. Anticipation is killing me We can tell.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 12:40 PM) All hail the Flying Serpent And the blood of his penis!
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 08:16 AM) Yup. Still living happily ever after. I still talk to her once in awhile. I was pretty naive back then. Wow, that is not what I expected you to say... Well, at least she is with someone that makes her happy and it wasn't some douchebag she hurt you over.
  23. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 07:54 AM) When I was 23, my gf dumped me by telling me she had been seeing someone else behind my back for the past 4 months, and they were getting married. Imagine that 180 of emotions. Took a long time to move on and it probably has effected me to this day. put up walls and haven't had a relationship longer than 4 months since then. Did she actually marry this guy?
  24. QUOTE (elamins @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 06:52 AM) Ya i was pretty shocked to say the least. It really came out of nowhere My advice would be to take up a new hobby....find something relatively healthy to dive into...don't be a loser like Wite and drink your sorrows away Do you workout? Ride a bicycle? Do something to transform yourself and think about all the chicks you are going to nail that are much hotter than your ex as motivation...
  25. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 02:34 AM) One of the biggest tips has got to be, to stop texting. This goes for the human race. F***ing talk to one another verbally already, enough misinterpretation happens that way as is, but it is clearly the better route of the two. Attention spans have just gotten worse as the technology gets better. Currently there is now a pill that's being worked on that if you take it, it's like you have just worked out. Naturally, the intention is for this to only be used by those that have a debilitating illness. We all know this will not end up being the case. It's weak, pathetic even. All of these shortcuts are just biting our society in the ass. Well, I think you should still talk when you can talk...text when you can't.
