  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:32 PM) I agree on the casino idea When I worked for the Mayor's Office we did a lot of exploration and research into this. The plan was called "the crown jewel" or something like that, due to the location in the old post office building. The biggest question was whether to provide parking or not. Daley did not want the locals patronizing it often, and therefore, did not want to provide much parking. He simply wanted to lure in tourists. I'm still not sure why it has never gotten done...because most everything Daley wanted done found a way to get done...
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 06:34 PM) Tito baby I'd take Tito ahead of Martinez, but assuming tito is unavailable, Martinez would be my choice.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:04 PM) Yeah they are the last team anyone wants to manage. I think its clear its Tito or Martinez and Frankly I like both. My feelings exactly.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) The nice thing though is that as that revenue stream collapses, you also save a lot on health care costs from your employees, as they're not smoking, more productive, not laid up in the hospital, and not dead. I think most of the health problems endured by smokers are not going to disappear overnight because cigarettes cost $11/pack in the City. I agree that the City has gone to that well a few too many times to the point where a lot of smokers are buying outside of Cook County. I don't know if they've reached the breaking point to where they are actually taking in less revenue due to less volume sold, but additional raises would seem to be close to that tipping point, if they're not there already.
  5. QUOTE (Wedge @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 10:10 PM) This might be a dumb question, but what's so great about a manager that uses SABR? It's not even SABR...I think that comes with some unfortunate implications these days...it's more just a question, at least IMHO, of using all available data to make the most effective decisions in both game situations as well as personnel...it doesn't necessarily have to involve some sort of controversial metrics, but more just firm grasp of what strategies lead to the best outcomes on a baseball scoreboard. It was extremely apparent that Ozzie didn't believe in this, but rather "playing the game the right way," which couldn't have been more oxymoronic to say had he tried.
  6. When was the supposed "fight" between Walk and Kenny?
  7. Winning will bring the kind of relevency that actually matters. The relevency Ozzie brought was that the White Sox were a reality tv show gone bad. Not once, in the many, many articles written about Ozzie and the Organization was it referred to as a class or model organization.
  8. QUOTE (Cali @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 10:48 AM) One of my biggest concerns is if the Rays catch the Red Sox and Francona is fired, Boston might go after Martinez, and they'd easily pay more for him than the White Sox and could offer a team kind of already built for success. I'd happily take Tito. If the Red Sox fire him, they are complete idiots.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) The Cubs and the Sox are calling him for openings. Right...at which poinit, he will tell this to the Phillies, who will then be pressed to make a decision... I guess it wouldn't surprise me if he ended up at any of the three places.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 10:27 AM) I'm hearing Sandberg is on the short list. I just think the Phillies have promised Sandberg that job when Manual retires...which could be after this season...
  11. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 10:25 AM) Still trying to get the Dave Martinez, thing. But I guess look at successful Maddon has been from learning from Sciosia. Then there's Ron Roenicke, too. Tim Laker for hitting coach, since he worked with these Knight Sox. Martinez is going to be very good with young players, which is one of Ozzie's glaring weaknesses. He also understands how to analyze data, at least one would think, as he is Maddon's right hand man. These are two things we have very much lacked under Ozzie.
  12. Can bench coaches be interviewed if their team is in the playoffs?
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 12:13 AM) Hmmm...wonder how many caught that one? It would be really interesting if Sandberg and Martinez were managing the Cubs and Sox. Would definitely dial up the intensity on that rivalry again. Hah, I giggled...
  14. Thanks for the memories, Ozzie. You ushered in some fun and interesting times as the manager of our beloved White Sox. You will always be remembered...and you will be honored when the the less memorable moments fade... For now, use your brain and restrain your tongue, and best of luck in Miami.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) It's official. I accepted the offer. For those of you who follow me on facebook please don't post anything there. I don't want my family (parents, sister) to find out second hand. I plan to see them in the next few days and would like to tell them in person. Congrats Marko! Sometimes things happen for the best broseph...
  16. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 12:11 PM) I think that's only true if both are looking for ball and get tangled up, Woodson had no idea where it was and wasn't tangled feet he pretty much tripped him on purpose or not even announcers were pretty open about it being pass interference. Otherwise a corner could always just trip in front of receivers. Woodson had his back turned to the play and impeded the progress of Hester towards the ball. Problem is, the throw went towards the middle of the field, and the refs probably just figured it was uncatchable.
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 11:15 PM) I don't want to hear s*** about the run-pass ratio. What do you want to do that for? So you can take another 6 attempts to have 20 rushing yards total on the game? The Packers' secondary is brutal anyways, with the exception of Woodson. If you keep trying to pound the ball you were going to get stuffed anyways. If you take a look around the League, the premier offenses could give a s*** about handing the ball off the the running back anymore. The Packers didn't hardly bother to run all year last season. The Patriots are content to throw 20 straight times. The difference is, if you can't or won't run the ball, you need to throw a lot of high-percentage short passing plays to receivers capable of YAC. Slants, screens, quick outs, etc. Otherwise, your QB is going to get hammered because of the DLine knowing you are throwing almost every down. Unfortunately, Knox and Hester are either in the wrong place or don't have the hands in order to make this sort of offense work.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 05:32 PM) It does make you wonder. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but Mike Carey has been suspected of impacting games before...
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 06:26 PM) Wow, that was an amazing trick play on the punt. Almost too bad we wasted it there. Where the hell was the hold? Completely impacted the wagering there.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) Somewhere, Roger Bossard was just tackled on the 17 yard line, killed by a piece of metal sticking up...and is rolling over in his grave. Maybe the guy from Buffalo Wild Wings pressed the button...
  21. 37 points scored in the 4th quarter of the Texans/Saints game alone...with almost 3 minutes left still...
  22. Need one more TD in this Bills/Pats game...what a wild game....Brady with two red zone int's and three overall.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) They attempted to talk to him. There's no guarantee they would have signed him. They gave Rothschild $2 million for 3 years. How much better are they now? How much better is the Cubs offense under Jaramillo? What happened to Leo Mazzone and the Orioles pitching staff when he bolted Atlanta and was thought of as the premier pitching coach? What makes coaches good pitching coaches and good hitting coaches are good pitchers and good hitters. Mazzone agreed to join the Orioles staff because he and Sam Perlozzo were best friends. He obviously struggled to get the young Orioles arms to succeed in the vaunted AL East. That certainly doesn't diminish the staffs he presided over in Atlanta for so many years.
  24. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) I place no value on another team wanting one of our coaches. So it doesn't matter if the Yankees want Coop or the Marlins want Oz. Those teams are different with different needs. I'm curious, why do some people place great value on the Yankees wanting to interview Coop while dismissing the Marlins making an offer for Oz? Seems like to be consistent you should value both the same. I think it's more another piece of supporting evidence in Cooper's favor rather than the sole reason for the disparity in their reputations around the league.
  25. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 10:34 AM) Then that is also proof that people around baseball value Ozzie. Which really means jack s***. The argument is not Cooper versus Oz though...it's Cooper versus Walk.
