I swear Illinois at Michigan follows the same script every year. Illinois plays well, gets a lead, can't sustain it, loses. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 6, 2018 -> 11:20 AM) Illini can’t complain about these refs The call on Matthews was bad but the other two were legit. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 04:16 PM) Seeing the staff Gruden put together, that's impressive. The benefit to his media gig the way he set it up (and constantly complimenting everyone on tv) was he probably has more relationships than anyone now. He seems like a nice guy though and I like a lot of raiders so i hope it works out. He also has insight on every team and all the current players too. He's had countless production meetings with all of the teams, in addition to his work with college QB's and general film review. Still, if I were betting I would be on the side of him failing, not succeeding.

QUOTE (Quin @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 04:19 PM) Not gonna lie, it took me a minute. I read it after I heard it was a joke, but I think I would have believed everything up until the line where it says staffers placed a broadcast tower on the south lawn.

This whole gorilla channel thing is pretty hilarious.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 02:05 PM) If he sucked, he would have been given the heave ho long ago. Every school does it. The Illini did it with Jamar Smith years ago. I don't think he actually played anymore for them, but that was only because he messed up again while suspended and on probation. Right after it happened Weber said Smith wasn't going to play for the rest of the season and that they would reevaluate his role going forward. He screwed that up so they kicked him off the team. Most recently Kendrick Nunn had some domestic abuse charges and he was kicked off the team immediately. He was a good player and may have kept Groce employed at the school (currently playing very well for Oakland). The only pass I can remember in the recent history of Illinois bball was Luther Head, who stole some stuff but remained on the team. Minor theft =/= multiple sexual assaults. Not saying this doesn't happen, it surely does, but I would have hoped that in the current state of the country re: sexual harassment/assault, Minnesota would have been a little more proactive. Especially since Minnesota's AD is already dealing with other sexual assault complaints/controversies, including on the basketball team. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 11:25 AM) Of course they waited until after the Illinois game. The entire world, not just the referee community is against the Illini. Exactly! I was kind of kidding about that part, but it's ridiculous the guy was able to play at all once the complaints were filed. -

https://deadspin.com/minnesota-center-reggi...-for-1821807664 Reggie Lynch of Minnesota suspended until 2020 because he's a serial rapist/assaulter. I'm shocked, SHOCKED, that a member of the Pitino family protected someone like that for so long, even allowing him to log a 11 pt, 12 reb, 7 block game against Illinois just this week. -

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 03:39 PM) Quite frankly, I'm disappointed in Underwood. Thought he would have more of an immediate impact. We clearly don't have enough talent right now, but really thought he could scheme and coach the team to more wins. But as of now, the offense looks pedestrian and extremely inconsistent, and the defense gives up a lot but forces turnovers at least. I hoped but didn't expect us to make the tournament, but didn't really believe we would know before 2018 that we wouldn't make the tourney. This is a larger rebuild than I thought, and not getting a big man or a wing in 2018 is now concerning. I mean, their defense is very good (taking into consideration their complete lack of size) and their offense gets them plenty of open shots. I think the "system" is working out just fine. I'm shocked at how poorly this team shoots the ball, especially from 3. I would have bet a lot of money that Finke was going to thrive and average 15+ a game, but he can't hit the broad side of a barn. Their best players are Black, Frazier and Williams. So you're relying heavily on freshman. The positive is that they make a lot of great plays, plays with ahtleticism we haven't seen in a while. There's a lot of potential there. But they're freshman, so they also make awful, untimely mistakes. Mark Smith has been a little bit of a disappointment but he's making typical (and correctable) freshman mistakes. Alstork...I mean I don't know what I expected but he's not the Rayvonte Rice transfer I thought he was going to be. He made so many bone-headed plays in that Minnesota game. Who else is worth anything? Aaron Jordan was a nice story early but I knew that shooting was never going to last just looking at his form. Kipper Nichols is an absolute bust. He's Brian Randle (crazy good athleticism without the skills to match) 10 years later. Lucas didn't take a step in year 2. My glass half full side still says this is a team that should be 2-1 in the big ten if they could just inbound the ball two times. My glass half empty side says that they're 16 games in which is enough of a sample size to show they're not a good shooting team. The offense isn't going to get much better. -
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 08:22 AM) Is Breath of the Wild just a poor man's Horizon Zero Dawn? Struggling to understand the hype here. The plot premise is really really similar, but BotW's storytelling, characters, combat, graphics, sound, UI, and exploration are all far worse. Some of these design decisions (crafting to heal, weapons that break every 5 minutes, stamina system) are baffling. The only area it excels so far is with the puzzle shrines. I'm only like 5 hours in. Does this get better? The world is huge. The boss fights are fun. The first 5-10 hours are rough because your weapons blow, but eventually they'll be upgraded (and yes, the decision to have weapons break sucks IMO). I'd give it a little longer and at least beat one of the bosses. Those are challenging both from a fight perspective and a puzzle perspective. If you're not into just exploring and doing shrines, it's probably not going to get better for you. You don't HAVE to do those things, but that's how you get more health/stamina that makes the boss fights more manageable.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 08:58 AM) I just found out about this yesterday. Essentially, if you go through a toll where it doesn't read the transponder for whatever reason or you don't have it in the car with you at all, they will now charge you the cash rate. Even if you have the vehicle registered for an Ipass account. Cash grab.

Doesn't look like Illinois is going to turn it around this year. They still have time, but an 0-3 hole is rough. Big Ten is down, their best non-conference win was Missouri....not looking good. I think it's time to switch up the starting line-up. Williams and Frazier have clearly outplayed Lucas/Smith/Alstork. They're playing more minutes, but they just can't afford to start in these huge holes. That 2-17 start may have been the worst I've ever seen Illinois play, and there has been some bad basketball over the last decade. -
I've heard the best way to go is to find someone older, like your parents or grandparents, who can't live without cable and borrow their log in information and then you can watch whatever you want.... just a rumor. Not sure if it works...

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 02:57 PM) I would deal any for a top 5 pick in a heart beat. He still relies a lot on midrange jumpers and isn't great around rim. But he could find his range and then be really good. Dunn also makes a lot of really untimely mistakes. He'll get you a steal and a circus basket to get you back into the lead, and then the next trip he'll make a boneheaded turnover. Happened last night against Portland. He had an excellent final 3-4 minutes and then the last possession he forced a weak, fall away shot in the lane that was nearly an airball. edit: Ha, just read this on my twitter feed: Still, wasn't a good decision/shot. He had Lopez clear on the roll. -
Has anyone tried to watch Twin Peaks? My wife and I watched the first episode (from the original), thinking it would be fun to watch that and the new season they released last year. But holy hell is it bad. The acting is atrocious, the writing is bad...we actually had to google whether or not the show was supposed to be full of dry humor or if it was supposed to be serious (answer: serious but quirky). We made it through the episode but I don't think we'll be watching any more.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 09:15 AM) I'm wondering how a cannon from a Death Star that destroyed an entire planet in IV and Rogue One, barely cut a 6 foot hole in a door. You're ignoring the bigger issue - the entire movie was based on the idea that the First Order had no ships capable of going a LITTLE bit faster than their canon ship. So this big, universe-controlling force was stuck in a tortoise race with three rebel ships...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2017 -> 07:14 PM) The reactors currently under construction are happening because they have received a huge subsidy from the rate-payers who are paying FAR above market rates to make those reactors come online. None of the other 20 will be built, or if they are built, they will be built at terrible losses. Nuclear power is simply not cost effective, it's so far from cost effective right now that it's barely worth talking about. You're in Texas with a competitive power market - there will never, ever be a nuclear plant constructed in Texas because it can't compete with just adding solar plants on every walmart. This isn't going to change. The cost of building a nuclear plant is rising faster than inflation, while (barring executive action) the cost of wind and solar is going down. Gas is basically staying constant. And that doesn't take into account the huge subsidy the federal government provides - leaving the plants not liable if they explode and paying them huge sums because they haven't figured out how to safely deal with the waste. Nuclear power in this country is either dead or only exists because your local government decided they wanted to give it a huge subsidy. They employ thousands of people and regularly hire thousands of contractors during outages. There are huge local economic ramifications for closing the plants, so the human element comes into play.

QUOTE (FloydBannister1983 @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 11:16 AM) Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Clinton appointee, is a conservative SCOTUS justice? Was this meant to be sarcasm? I believe she's widely acknowledged to be one of the most liberal justices on the court. Yes, I was being sarcastic.

Saw it this afternoon. C- at best. Nothing I'll say hasn't been said in the 15 pages in the thread. So many cringe-worthy moments, so many wtf? logistical issues, pretty meh death for one of the most beloved hero characters in film history, etc. Hugely disappointing.

Good thing I got up early this morning. Saw the crypto stuff tanking and sold off. Should have sold 7 days ago and I would have 50% more value but oh well, can't complain
