  1. I was reading up on him, and he looks like he might be a good signing to try and make, IMO. According to MLB.com, he has a mid 90's fastball, a slider, and a forkball. His stats look good as well. And reportedly he is seeking a 3-4 year deal between 10-12 million per year. I'd offer him 3 years at 30 million with incentives where he can earn a couple more million per season, plus an option for a 4th year. However, he is 32 and would be a risky move, and he is said to want to go to the west coast. The M's will likely get him, but if we got him, we could make one of our younger pitchers that more available.
  2. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 10:37 PM) god forbid we give up the next matt long, ray liotta or wes whisler. with a team with as bad as a farm as we have, we need all the picks we can get. And, Linebrink is going to be throwing a lot of homers in the cell, if he does indeed come here.
  3. horrible move. He is not that good, and this move will screw us big time in the future. He's just not that good. And we gave up a 2nd rounder for him... He's a decent reliever and all, but he is no stud setup man worth 20 million over 4 years. Our only hope is that he has a good 1st half since he will be switching leagues.
  4. I don't know. Some say once a crack addict, always a crack addict, but that isn't always the case. If he can stay clean and healthy, it would be awesome to get him as he would be our future 3 hitter. It'd probably cost one of Danks or Gio though. I'd do a Danks for Hamilton and Hopper, if the Reds would. A lineup of (see below) would be pretty sweat. 1. Owens/Hopper, CF 2. Cabrera, SS 3. Thome, DH 4. Konerko, 1B 5. Dye, RF 6. Hamilton, LF 7. Fields, 3B 8. Pierzynski, C 9. Richar, 2B We would have to try and sign or somehow acquire another starting pitcher though. Maybe that guy from Japan? Kuroda I think it is... but the M's will probably get him. Hmm, lets say we get that guy from japan, get Chris Burke for cheap, sign Octavio Dotel (incentive laden deal), and sign Mackowiak (let Ozuna go, keep Bourgeois in Charlotte for insurance), we could get a damn good team for next season... With that lineup, a bench of: Burke, 2B/OF Hall(or free agent, Hall's days with the Sox seem to be numbers), C Hopper/Owens, OF Mackowiak, UTL Rotation: Buehrle, Vazquez, Contreras, Kuroda, Floyd (with Egbert, Broadway, & Gio waiting in the wings) Pen: Jenks (CP), MacDougal, Thornton, Dotel, Logan, Wasserman, open spot for whoever wins it Damn, too good to be true.
  5. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 06:11 PM) Including his 10 innings in the bigs last season, Broadway had some decent numbers (peripherals) after the break. 71.2 IP, 69H, 7 HR, 33BB, 70K but only a 5.05 ERA. The thing about those numbers is the K per inning, averaging almost a K for each inning. Now, if he could get his control in line...
  6. the thing that still gripes me about this deal is how we couldn't get a leadoff hitter.
  7. QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) But who would we have to give up? I'd assume the Reds would be looking for pitching in return. oh yeah, and lots of it.
  8. Hamilton in LF/CF sounds pretty sweet to me as long as he can stay healthy and clean.
  9. oh yeah, apparently Fukodome is seeking 3 years 30 million... Kenny better be all over this.
  10. Don't know if it was discussed, but the Royals and Nats might get into a bidding war for Andruw Jones. Also, the A's might have a fire sale according to Olney. I wonder if they will put Haren on the market...
  11. I'd take him. Good speed, can play 2B, OF, and 3B or SS if needed to. He hits lefties well, but does not do all that great vs. righties. Perfect platoon/situational player if you ask me.
  12. Edwar Ramirez, Ian Kennedy, and Melky Cabrera for Jenks? What do you guys think?
  13. QUOTE(scenario @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 10:28 AM) There must be something cookin' here... a possible deal to move a catcher maybe. Because it makes no sense to protect a 4th catcher and leave a promising relief pitcher exposed when... - You you have two major league catchers on the roster - Your #1 guy just signed an extension - And your team has a desperate need for relief pitching. They would save $1M by moving Toby Hall and letting Lucy/Armstrong duke it out for the backup job. Is this a foreshadowing of a move to free up more money to sign Torii Hunter? Jarrod Saltalamacchia!&**$^&@#@
  14. give me Joba straight up and I'll drive Jenks all the way to NYC.
  15. according to Cabrera, Richar is going to be special... http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws
  16. QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 09:48 PM) So years later, we have Single A pitcher, Jon Link in to show for the Carlos Lee deal. It's a good thing '05 cut KW so much slack in my book, otherwise I'd really be upset about this. Carlos Lee didn't lead to us getting Link. We traded Marte for Mackowiak, who we then traded for Link. What we have to show for Lee is some of Vazquez (Vizcaino)...
  17. wtf, we left Fernando Hernandez off the roster when he was eligible for the rule 5? I don't care if he has good stuff or bad stuff, he has put up great numbers and the only way some team doesn't claim him is because they don't think he is ready.
  18. I could see/wouldn't mind a Uribe for Baldelli deal. Baldelli has pretty much no spot on the Rays and doesn't have much trade value. They need a defensive shortstop, and Uribe would provide them that. He would really help out their pitching staff as well if he isn't way out of shape.
  19. I think we definitely need a 7 man bullpen now since we will have pretty much 3 question marks in the rotation.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 05:22 PM) Would you say no to a free dinner? I would if I was about to make 15+ million for the next 5 years or so...
  21. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 04:59 PM) Take a look at the makeup of this team. What's one more old guy. At this point, you might as well just go balls deep. when you put it that way...
  22. I still don't understand why everyone wants Hunter so bad still. Do you all want to be the Giants of the American League?
  23. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 05:24 AM) Would anyone do Danks, Gio and MacDougal for Crawford? I would, but no way am I trading DLS.
  24. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) If you can get Ethier for Crede and MacDougal, you do it and you run like hell back home. That's a 3Bman coming off back surgery and a reliever who put up an ERA of 6.80 and a WHIP of 1.96 for an outfielder who is likely to be an above average hitter for the next 4 years; that's highway robbery. And I can't say Colletti wouldn't make it either. agreed. A lineup like this isn't to bad... 1. Owens, CF 2. Cabrera, SS 3. Thome, DH 4. Konerko, 1B 5. Dye, RF 6. Ethier, LF 7. Fields, 3B 8. Pierzynski, C 9. Richar, 2B Our rotation would likely suck as though.
  25. I wish we could be saying good bye to Kenny Williams right now instead, but whatever. Thanks for the memories Jon.
