a 5 year deal worth 75 million where he can opt out after his second year would be perfect. It doesn't seem like Boras/Jones have been getting any offers the ones they had hoped they would get anyway, and it seems to me more and more teams are unwilling to deal with Boras's BS.

sox looking at Crawford, Cabrera or Crisp?
BearSox replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 12:04 AM) Everything seems pointed in that direction: Fields not playing LF, targeting CFs that aren't "leadoff men", and OC penciled in at #2 in the order. Is Owens actually good enough to help the Sox compete for a playoff spot? simple answer... no. If anything, at least bring in Stewart for a 1 year deal worth 4-5 million and have him leadoff and platoon with Owens. -
probably Scott Linebrink.

QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 10:20 PM) Does that include getting two outfielders or one? "If we get the right guy, just one," Williams said. Looks like Jerry Owens will be playing LF and leading off for the White Sox, especially if the White Sox sign Jones or Rowand... -
yeah, i really don't understand why he wasn't given a look last season and Andy Gonzalez was.

trade for Crawford, sign Jones... 1. Crawford, LF 2. Cabrera, SS 3. Thome, DH 4. Konerko, 1B 5. Jones, CF 6. Dye, RF 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Fields, 3B 9. Richar, 2B Looks pretty sweet to me.

QUOTE(joeynach @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 01:57 PM) One thing that has confused me has been the non situation involving Bobby Jenks and a possible contract extension. Im surprised there hasnt been an effort from the sox, our fans, or the media to get a Jenks extension on the table. I think you need to lock this guy up now. He is one of the best closers in the game and still young. He has about 2.5 Years of service time and will be eligible for arbitration after 2008. I would like to the sox sign him to something like 3-4 years and buy out his arbitration and FA years. I understand he can still be had in 2009 for relative league minimum but I think we should show some desire to keep this guy here by going to him with an extension for 4 Years around 16 Mil perhaps with an option at 6 Mil for the least year like Joe Nathan's. Anyone else feel we need to sign Jenks or know if the team has said such things? why? He is still in pre-arbitration and then has 4 years of arbitration after that. There is no need to rush into signing him. Especially when there are still questions about whether or not his elbow can hold up...

very said... I wonder what happened. I just hope he didn't die do to drugs or anything like that.

QUOTE(G&T @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 08:47 AM) Does it cost Danks to get Crawford? If a deal can be done for Gio and whatever else, avoiding Danks and Fields, then the deal makes a lot of sense. But I can't see the Rays trading him now for borderline prospects. Call me crazy, but I say you trade Danks before you trade Gio. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 10:32 PM) According to Steve Stone Carl Crawford has always refused to play CF, he's supposedly pretty damn good out there but he just does not want to play the position. Not to say he wouldn't agree to play CF if the Sox acquired him but he always wanted to a play a corner OF position in Tampa. I wonder why... -
I think they need a stadium with a retractable roof due to Florida always getting hurricanes and all.

question... could Crawford be our starting CF, or is he best at LF? -

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 09:43 PM) I disagree... Crawford better be the target! I would much rather we give up a ton of the farm for him rather than Miguel Cabrera. This team needs a lead off hitter and he fits the bill perfectly... .315 avg, 80 RBI and 50 SBs... This guy is a pure athlete and he would solve our leadoff situation for the next 3 years... He can play some baseball as well... -
I want a minor league affiliate located near Chicago. I like to go and see some minor league games once in a while, and I'd like to be able to actually go to a game and be able to watch the Sox prospects.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 06:50 PM) With this deal occuring, doesn't it make sense to ship Macdougal off? It makes sense to make him available, but not to just get rid of him. He's got the second best stuff in the pen, and can be a better SU man then Linebrink... but then again, he could be much worse. Now, I think mlbtraderumors.com (I know, I know) came up with this trade idea, but if the Dodgers were willing to do a Crede, MacDougal, and Massett for Ethier deal, I do that deal in a heartbeat. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) Too much. The Rays always ask for the moon with their players, and if your going to give up the farm for a player, Crawford isn't the guy I want, even with the Sox lead-off situation. well, I know, but still... -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 06:29 PM) Jesus, let's just trade Buehrle for Howard and Rollins why we're at it. Why on earth would the Reds make that deal for Hamilton straight up, let alone throwing Hopper into the mix too? Do people not understand that Danks put up an ERA of 5.50, had durability issues, and didn't even throw 140 innings in 26 starts (an average of 5.1 IP per start, which is absolutely horrendous)? His value is not that of a guy who put up an OPS of .922 in 337 PAs last year along with a guy who could be a pretty good 4th outfielder. Get real. Like I said in my originaly post, if the Reds would. I didn't say they would, but if they would, that'd be sweet. Don't go all crazy on me, I know Hamilton will be tough to get. Hopper, on the other hand... he would be a good option to compete for leadoff with Owens if we can't find anyone else.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 10:41 AM) Scouting Report Fukudome has doubles-power and will likely put up a high OBP in the Majors, but won't slug a lot of home runs.[12] Defensively, he's best suited for right field, but could plug into center if need be.[13] Mike Plugh, of Baseball Prospectus, says that "Fukudome is tailor-made for the Major Leagues. [...] He has patience as well as power to the gaps, a recipe for success, especially if he chooses to play in a ballpark with a spacious outfield." Plugh warns that Fukudome won't hit more than 20 homers, "but 50 doubles is not out of the question[, and] when compared to his [Japanese] peers, [...] his habitual .400+ OBP."[14] One projection system estimates that a 2007 version of Fukudome would put up a .300/.375/.500 line in the Majors.[15] Former New York Yankee third baseman Mike Pagliarulo, now an independent scout, called Fukudome one of Japan's better athletes and said that, "when evaluating the 2007 MLB line-ups, Fukudome could bat fifth in the line-up for 11 of the 30 teams. He projects to the following: .265 AVG, .380 OBP, 20–30 HR, 80–100 RBI and 10 SB." [16] Kosuke Fukudome, 5-tool, 6' 0", 187 lb., right-handed hitting 30 year-old, has for years been considered the most complete and advanced offensive talent in Japanese baseball (think J.D. Drew potential). Fukudome has a fantastic glove and arm in right field, which he often showcases by effortlessly gunning down would-be scorers at home. Fukudome possesses intangibles to go along with his tangibles that would make him an impact player on any major league team. He is among the top in virtually every statistical category. This domination helped lead him to the 2006 league MVP. At this point, he has shown little interest in the majors because his Chunichi Dragons look to contend in 2007, but he has stated that that will change when he earns his free agency after the 2007 season. He will look to make around $15-18 million annually. um yeah, I'm pretty sure he's lefthanded.... -
Torii Hunter signs with LAA Angels
BearSox replied to joejoesox's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Yeah, the angels are definitely not done. I could see them using Kendrick, Willits, Adenhart, and probably another prospect/cheap major leaguer to land Cabrera. I also see them dealing Matthews Jr. for perhaps prospects to use in a deal for Cabrera, and that they will place Wood at 3B, and Figgins at 2B. P: Lackey, Escobar, Garland, Weaver, and one of Santana/Sanders (one could be very easily be used in a trade for Cabrera) C: Napoli 1B: Kotchman 2B: Figgins 3B: Wood SS: Izturis/Aybar LF: Cabrera CF: Hunter RF: Vlad DH: Anderson Damn! -

blueprints for the bullpen right now... Jenks, CP Linebrink, SU Thornton, SU MacDougal, SU/MRP (trade bait?) Logan, LOOGY Wasserman, ROOGY I think we have to have 7 in the pen due to the fact we have 3 question marks in our rotation. -

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 10:46 PM) A better example of a Horrible deal would be a 7 year deal with a 32 year old CF. I can agree with you there.
