  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 07:39 PM) The point is also having enough innings to go around so that you can get a reading on some guys for 2008. If you call up too many guys, they won't get used often enough to see how they play in a major league situation. Vazquez, Buehrle, Garland, Danks, Jenks, etc. will not get a whole lot of innings come september. Smartest thing to do would be to shut down/limit the main guys for next season and hopefully get them and their arms at full strength come next season. There would be plenty to go around for Egbert, Massett, Sisco, etc.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 07:37 PM) They know what they get in Crede if he is healthy. They also love his defense. Plus he would be cheaper than trying to find someone else to replicate those number in the OF if Fields were to stay at 3B and Crede left. the thing is... Crede did just have Back surgery! I don't care what Boras says, he could be a shell of his former self. And it would be a big risk to spend 4 million on him not knowing if he will even be able to play.
  3. well, with Podsednik and Erstad and Gonzalez taking up roster spaces, there is no room for Terrero. He will likely be activated come September.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 07:20 PM) We might, but I don't know if they will call up that many pitchers. We have seen enough of Haegar this year to know starting isn't going to be his thing. Well, it would be kinda pointless not to call him up as charlotte's season will be over come september anyway. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to see Phillips and even Reynoso get called up. Either additioning some of them for trades or possibly for the bullpen/rotation next season.
  5. this weird fascination people have that Fields is going to play LF and Crede be brought back to play 3B is driving me insane. It's just that not one thing has happened to lead me to believe the org. has any intention of bringing back Crede and moving Fields to LF.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 07:21 PM) I'll take Nook Logan or Ryan Church over any of them and I think Nook is terrible and Church is only decent. I don't know about Nook, but Church, definitly.
  7. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 07:16 PM) If Garland AND Contreras are traded, we better get back a young proven major league arm. Or a VERY HIGH upside, less than a year away major league arm. Like a Jason Hirsh. I don't see what anyone sees in Jason Hirsh. He is very mediocre. That package Colorado got from Houston would not be a good return for Garland. Good for someone like Jason Jennings, but not Garland. However, I would like to have to have Willy T. on this team. To me, it doesn't matter what we get in return for Contreras as I think most of the potential starters we have in the minors can't do much worse then him. Garland, I'd rather see being kept, but if KW is going to go and try and make another free agent signing, to save some $$$ I could see Garland dealt, and hopefully a SS being brought back. I like our pitching depth in the minors and we are dealing from a position of strength when we trade starting pitching. While it wouldn't be the best rotation in the world, I could live with one consisting of: Buehrle, Vazquez, Danks, and 2 of Egbert/Gio/Massett/Sisco/Broadway/Haeger/Cheap FA/guy via trade.
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 07:05 PM) Heath Phillips has zero chance of being a Sept call up this year. He has many guys who are ahead of him. I think we see Massett, Sisco, and Egbert up here, and that is about it. I do not think we will see Gio, because they will not put him on the major league roster before they have to do so. don't forget about Haeger.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 06:59 PM) What does Jerry do well outside of 'run fast'? I know he's been amazing since being recalled in early July . . . 39 G | 156 AB | 19 R | 49 H | 2 2B | 1 3B | 1 HR | 7 RBI | 8 BB | 27 K | 14SB/3CS | .269/.313/.314/.627 and even better since July 19th (beginning of the BOS series) . . . 25 G | 106 AB | 8 R | 26 H | 2 2B | 1 3B | 1 HR | 4 RBI | 4 BB | 19 K | 9SB/0CS | .245/.279/.311/.590 but can't this team do better than a dirt poor, barely breathing (possibly dead) man's Nook Logan in the leadoff spot next year? It's pretty obvious the organization wants to go for it again in 2008. With a group of aging (but still quite good) veterans leading the way, this team is going to need a productive leadoff hitter if they want to win anything. I can't see Jerry Owens posting anything better than a .265/.305/.315/.620 (this is on the optimistic side) line in 500+ ABs next year and that's not going to get it done. I just don't think he's all that talented. I agree completely, but if my choices are down to him, Erstad, and Podsednik for LF and leading off, I'm afraid I'd have to choose Owens. You?
  10. A few of my thoughts from reading over through this thread: 1. Thome will be back. I say there's a .1 chance of him not coming back. 2. Crede will be non-tendered. I don't see KW risking that 3-4 million on Crede when we have a) 3B filled and B) other holes 3. If we really need a speedy guy to leadoff and play LF, please be Owens. Cheaper, younger, and arguably better then Erstad and Podsednik. Neither of the grinder duo should be back. 4. Contreras needs to be traded. 5. Garland, maybe.
  11. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 10:21 PM) I have no idea what my comp's specs are, but any chance it runs on a 4 year old computer that was pretty top of the line at the time? perhaps. It's tough to tell without knowing the exact specs but 4 years ago isn't that long ago, and last time I checked there really hasn't been any real major break through in computers. Man, OT here, but 4 years ago was only 2003... Time has been flying.
  12. Javy > all. Say whatever you want, but I'd take Javy over Young any day of the week. Sure, it would have been nice to have kept Young and have traded Anderson instead, but then again, last time I checked, none of us were the GM and didn't know what exactly the DBacks were expecting in return.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 11:11 PM) Contreras will start the rest of the year for the Sox....100 pct sure of that. he shouldn't.... but KW and Ozzie know all...
  14. I'm probably gonna get it for the pc... along with Gears of War in a couple of months.
  15. I'm becoming a fan of Gallagher's. With Gartrell getting promoted to W-S, perhaps Gallagher is in line for a promotion to Kanny...
  16. Speaking of the 40 man roster and September call ups, Egbert will most definitely be added to the 40 man. I could see Lucy being added and getting called up. Sweeney is going to get called up and hopefully get most of, if not all, of the time in LF.
  17. what about Edgar Renteria in the offseason? Braves will be looking to unload him and his salary and to make room for Yunel.
  18. honestly, how does Walker still have a job? All this loyalty crap pisses me off.
  19. It's said when a rookie like Richar is already a better hitter then half the lineup tonight.
  20. QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 09:19 PM) Get AJ out of the 5 spot agreed...
  21. Andy freaking Gonzalez as the leadoff hitter... this team is so full of it if they actually think they still have a shot.
  22. I'm no Rowand lover or grinder lover, but if I had to choose between both of them at pretty much the same price but Rowand for 4 years and Dye for 2-3, I'd choose Rowand. Rowand adds more speed, better defense, and fills our CF hole. Now, I know Rowand won't be the player he is in phillie, but I think he will be better then what he was for us back in 05. Also, he might be an injury risk with his "grinder play", Dye is a huge injury risk in his own right. Plus, there is no doubt that Dye's bat has slowed down, IMO. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see some team (Texas?) offer Dye 3 years for 36 million or so with an option for a 4th year, and that's just to much.
  23. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=59503 I don't care though, you can have him.
  24. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 12:53 AM) Left hand or right hand? both....
  25. Well, I attend mass every sunday and on the holy days but only because while I live under my parents roof, i have no choice. I am kinda religious, I have a conscience. I feel bad whenever I "sin"... the thing is though, I sin a lot.
