Buehrle: Sox aren't going into rebuilding mode
BearSox replied to thedoctor's topic in Pale Hose Talk
if what KW says is true, I think we won't be seeing Garland traded, but rather extended. -
White Sox vs. Indians, 8/07/07 (L)

well, at least Stoney was very good tonight. I'd love to see a booth with him, DJ, and Hawk. DJ, the comedy man. Hawk, he'd be the homer fan and tell was stories about back in the day. And Stoney would be the smart one. -
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 10:33 PM) I'm sorry. You just have a poor understanding of the Great Nick Masset's career arc. that's precisly it

that was a horrible decision for the sac bunt. Let Owens steal. You got Borowski on the mound and Martinez behind the plate, you could pretty much walk into second base if you're Jerry Owens. Odds are that he steals 2B, then you put down the sac bunt, and have Thome hit the sac fly. Such a shame Danks has to get a loss for this. -
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) I think you have a poor understanding of the option system. Anyone who is on a 40-man roster and doesn't play in the major leagues uses up an option. Masset was on the Rangers 40-man roster in 2005 (he was later removed, when the Sox could have claimed him for nothing) so he used up an option then. He was put back on the 40-man last year (option #2 gone). He was on the Sox 40-man this year, and was sent to the minors (option #3 toast) There are exceptions Wladamir Balewhatever from Seattle hasn't played in the big leagues and has already burned through 3 options. I just read today that he's eligible for the 4th year option, though I'm unsure exactly how that works. I didn't know he was on the 40 man in 05 and then got removed. I don't see how that makes me having a poor understanding of the option system as by my account he only had used 2.
-
I think they got something wrong... Massett has only played in the big leagues twice. For a cup of coffee last year and for half a season this year. So that means 1 option was used last year, and 1 was used this year. I am fairly certain he has 1 option left.

QUOTE(Jeremy @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 08:20 PM) I think we're out of the running then because a player a year or two removed from being one of the more well regarded prospects in baseball will cost a lot more (think the Cameron-Konerko trade). Quentin's value is at an all time low. He is coming off a pretty terrible season and it is quite obvious the Diamondbacks are going to move him as they have no room for him. 2 of the pitchers mention, maybe. But 3. that's idiotic.

nothing else really exciting to report on white sox farm system. W-s lost, Kanny off. Great falls just beginning and Bristol lost, I think.
-
he only got 1 K in the 5th and gave up another hit... pure garbage
-
Charlotte vs. Richmond, tied 4-4 in the 8th Massett with a very good outing. 6 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K, 0 R Rogowski 2-4 w/ a HR and an RBI Collaro 3-3 with 1 RBI and.... A WALK! Lucy struggling, 0-4 with the three K's Birmingham @ Mobile, Barons leading 8-1 in the 5th... GIO GOOD Gio is a'ight. So far through 4: 4 IP (and counting), 2 h, 2 BB, 1 R, 9 K's David Cook with 2 hits and 4 RBI's
-
makes a little sense to take McCulloch's place in the W-S rotation. Hopefully if this is true, DLS can have a good final month or so for W-S and perhaps get moved up to Birmingham as early as next year.

QUOTE(TheOcho @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 07:59 PM) He's got to be 30 - 31... Only reason they signed him was for the lack of outfielders in AAA. yeah, I know...

Danks has pitched great today, just got a bit unlucky.... gotta get the lead, he deserves to win this game. -
Cubs claim Podsednik; Pods still here (for now)
BearSox replied to Linnwood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'll pull a Hawk here... where would he play once Soriano returns? CF? lolz, please send him to the cubs. -
he is playing CF for Charlotte tonight and is 2-3... he came out of no where. I don't know how he got to Charlotte and the White Sox organization, whether it be by a free agent signing, claiming off of waivers (most likely), or making a minor trade for him, I don't know. IIRC, he had a real good season with Detroit a couple years back and then got busted for steroids and after that, he kinda disappeared. Great speed, but no power, no arm, and no defense.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 04:00 PM) Yes, there is a chance Jose could refind his form. I really don't have a clue what the percentage is, because I don't have a clue what exactly is wrong with him. Unfortunately, because of his contract, we have zero chance of moving him right now unless we pay a ton of it. Therefore, all we can hope is that we can get some good out of him the next year+. We do need to move at least one pitcher right now, either to clear salary or to open up a space that hopefully Gavin will earn, but it won't be Jose. Maybe we'll get lucky somehow and he'll turn out surprisingly good out of the bullpen or something like that. That splitter would be murder out of that pen. it happens when you get up into your mid 40's for pitchers not named Nolan Ryan or perhaps Roger Clemens. With that being said, hopefully he can show some signs of life before the season is over, and trade him plus cash in the offseason for something decent. Perhaps Carlos Quentin as he is on the block and his value is probably at an all time low as Arizona pretty much has to trade him.
-
massett is out of options? he's been in the big leagues only two years... he's still got 1 left.
-
QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 03:51 PM) Of course it would be an offseason deal. I was thinking a deal like Masset/Broadway, Aardsma and Sisco. Both Masset and Aardsma will be out of minor league options next year. A three for one deal or at least 2 pitchers for Quentin minimum for a top quality guy like Quentin. Contreras and $20 mill won't be enough for Quentin. no way would we trade three possibly decent pitchers for a player who has struggled this season and who the Diamondbacks will be looking to trade.
-
oh yeah, speaking of Arizona OF'ers, I'd like to see Cunningham back in the sox farm system (and I do like Richar).
-
Well, it'd probably have to be an offseason deal as the majoirty of teams would probably claim Quentin if he went on waivers... Contreras + money for Quentin. It'd probably take more then that however.
-
Well, I think this is officially the end of Carlos Quention, and with their logjam at the CI as well, probably the end for Conor Jackson or Chad Tracey as well.
-
well, Byrnes has been the better player over the past 2 years, and they are both relatively the same age, I see Rowand getting a similar deal.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 10:45 PM) so, since you are using averages for everything else as opposed to total hits, hits and walks, and earned runs allowed, you may as well use K/9 too, no? 11.2 K/9, which is, with just a quick look through the top numbers, far and away better than anyone else in the league. just sayin you are lucky Sox fans don't toture heretics anymore...
