Toby Hall this season for the White Sox has a CERA of 6.61 and rising. For comparison's sake, Gustavo Molina's CERA this season was 4.26 and Pierzynski's CERA is 4.49. Also, Toby Hall's career CERA is in the 5's. I bring this up because Toby Hall has been just calling terrible games and I don't think he has much, if any, chemistry with any of the pitchers. I could see Donny Lucy being a september call up and possibly replace Hall next season.

we need stoney back... anyone else besides me like the idea of having Stone, Hawk, and DJ all in the booth together?

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 01:22 PM) Grandma died. Will be back with the team when they come home. Bad year for Konerko... didn't a relative or someone die earlier season causing him to miss a couple of games?

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) It's sad when Fields is the 3rd best hitter in the lineup. you mean a guy who has been striking out every 3rd AB wouldn't be a teams 3rd best hitter? I think it is safe to say that a sweep is imminent.

QUOTE(beautox @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 11:51 AM) Come on Bearsox, yo know better than that. whatever KW preaches you go with the exact opposite. For Example; No inseason contract extentsions = inseason contract extentions and preaching high OBP = Erstad, Podsednik, Owens. true, but then again, I think the no contract extensions during season was meant for when there is an actual point to the season.

I really think we will see Eggy skip Charlotte and make his major league debut in September and make the rotation next year.
-
I forgot about Chone Figgins... He'll likely be available in the offseason and would be a good option for leadoff and LF. Plus, if Richar doesn't pan out, we could just move Figgins to 2B and Sweeney could come up to play LF.
-
I wonder if there is any way of getting Ellsbury from the Red Sox in the offseason... or to a lesser extent Crisp.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 09:20 AM) Bump I didn't vote the first time around on this thread, but let me say that I home he is not our lead off man next year. Also, it drives me insane how slow he is to get the ball back to the infield. and when he does... it 10 feet over everyone's head.
-
I wonder if KW will make another run at Conor Jackson in the offseason. KW has now been preaching OBP and Conor Jackson brings just that.
-
oh yeah, I forgot to mention this, but all 3 homers of his this season haven't been cheap shots... they've been bombs.
-
like I said in a different thread, he'd play LF for us... he out produced Podsednik in one game.
-
no, it would not be awesome to have him patrol CF for us. Everyone is talking about Rowand's career year, Hunter is having a career year like no other. Plus, Hunter is old and isn't the defender he was 3-5 years ago. The Metrodome has taken a toll on his body and he has slowed down considerably. Others have mentioned this, and he plays probably the deepest CF in baseball as well. Hunter would not live up to the huge Gary Matthews-like contract he would get.
-
yeah, he'll never play for the White Sox ever again... maybe he will be involved in a package to somewhere in the offseason.
-
hopefully we continue to tank and get the 1st pick in the draft. We can get the best non-boras prospect in the draft! Seriously though, if we get the 1st pick in the draft and we pass on someone like Pedro Alveras, I'll be pissed.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 09:18 PM) I don't mind the extension, itself. 22 million over two seasons isn't much of a risk. What I absolutely HATE is the reason we're at this point. Once again, our minor league system has failed us. Because we're void of a legitimate OF prospect(s) Williams has no choice but to devote money to Dye. Unfortunately, a similar situation may present itself with Uribe and Erstad. It has just become pathetic. No team with aspirations for a championship can continue without production from within. I can't wait until we resign Pierzynski because there's no legitimate catching prospect within the system. Someone tell me that scenario isn't inevitable. Even with Jermaine, my thoughts towards 2008 haven't changed. Williams still needs to acquire minor league talent from Garland (and yes, my expectations are still high) and immediately improve the positional prospects within the organization. Until these both occur, the future isn't looking good for Williams or the White Sox. I wonder if Taylor Teagarden of the Rangers might be available... I'd like to see him brought in, he'd be a legit catching prospect. And if we were to trade Garland, if we could get a package of Hu, Meloan, and something else, I'd hope KW would make that deal. Hu would automatically become our SS and Meloan could fill a hole in the pen. Also, a guy that I really have fallen in love with is Wilson Betemit. If ARod stays with the Yanks, perhaps Betemit could be available. I think if we got Hu, Betemit would be a perfect platoon partner to have in the INF to take off some of the load on Richar, Fields, and Hu and still get plenty of playing time. Still, we'd need to find an OF to leadoff. I might as well say LF as I am guessing that Rowand will probably be patrolling CF for us next season.

I don't understand why everyone wants Thome gone now. Do you want no left handed presence what-so-ever in the lineup? And Pierzynski doesn't count.

Will Paul Konerko pass Frank Thomas's Sox HR record?
BearSox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Lets say Konerko finishes of this season with 30 homers. That would be 7 more leaving him with 180 to go. Now, if he stays relatively healthy for the rest of his career and stays and plays with the white sox for 8 more season after this season, it will only take him an average of 22/23 homers a season to surpass Thomas. It really isn't that much of a longshot. -
I definitely could see Crede with the Phillies. I think it would be a good situation for him to with Dobbs there as Dobbs is a decent player, he isn't good enough to play everyday. Just by looking at the phillies lineup, they have plently of power. Rollins has turned into a a pretty decent power hitter and would be good for at least 15, if not 25. Victorino can also hit in the 10-20 range. I really don't see the Phillies offering Rowand the money he will be getting in free agency.
-
Micah Owings, P for the DBacks, would bat 3rd for us. Today he is 4-4 with 2 hr's, a double, and 6 rbi's. One game for him is better then a whole year of Podsednik.
-
QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 07:50 PM) They probably will try to re-sign Rowand. The Phils also could use Shane Victorino in CF. Victorino and Bourn aren't power guys. One of the 2 OFers along with Burrell should have some power. I hate that statement so freaking much. Why do they have to be power guys? Sure, you'd like to have power from your corner OF's, but if you get power from 1B, 2B, SS, LF, and a few other places possibly, you don't need to 2 power guys in the OF.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 07:46 PM) The Sox aren't stupid. They aren't going to just take his word for it... ask Magglio. He can pass all the physicals in the world, it still doesn't mean he will ever play baseball at a high level ever again or that his back would still be able to hold up over a whole season.

Will Paul Konerko pass Frank Thomas's Sox HR record?
BearSox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Maybe. I could see it, but there are to many if's. He has never had any injury problems to speak of during major league career, but he is getting older and his hip isn't the greatest. Time will tell if he does stay healthy. Secondly, I don't think he could do it in just 4 years, but if he signs another extension and stays with the white sox, then I could see it (if healthy!). With that being said, I am rooting for him so I vote yes. -
QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 07:44 PM) I like Dye for the next two years. $11 mill per is the going rate. I could see Kenny going hard after Michael Bourn of the Phils. Though he's not a sure thing, Bourn seems a better bet than Owens for CF. And the sox have some arms in Sisco, Masset and Aardsma that the Phils would probably take a pass on. With Dye locked up, the sox need some low cost, high yield type position players. It looks to me that the Phillies are going to let Rowand go and probably have Bourne in CF to replace him.
-
not surprised that he is having arm problems. Was never a fan of his mechanics.
