Baseball America Updates- RoGone
QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 08:29 PM) They signed him for sure, to a minor league deal. He was taken once before in a Rule 5, Dec. 2005 by Seattle from the Braves. Then, he was signed as a minor league free agent by the White Sox last winter. Further I would find it strange the White Sox would sign this guy to a minor league deal only to expose him to the Rule 5. If he were exposed, surely he'd be selected based on his play in '07 and his winter league performance. I do know Regier likes him and I don't think the $50k claim fee means that much to the White Sox. Hmmm ... thinking about this for a few minutes, here's what I think the situation is: There is a distinct difference between declaring as a minor league free agent (6 years) vs. eligibility for the Rule 5 draft (4 years for the sake of simplicity). Bourgeois was drafted in 2000 so that he was a minor league free agent makes sense. I do not think all minor league free agents are part of the Rule 5 pool. For example, there was a guy the White Sox signed every year to play in Charlotte, Ernie Young. Ernie is in his late 30's and every year for the last few he signed with the White Sox. But I highly doubt Ernie was eligible for the Rule 5, the Players Association would raise a ruckus about that. Based on that, I doubt Bourgeois is eligible for the Rule 5. In my take, he was simply a minor league free agent who chose to sign with the White Sox. I will close by saying I don't know for sure, but it makes sense to me. Ernie Young, Chicago guy. I wonder if he grew up a Sox fan?

QUOTE(G&T @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) Score just reported that th Dodgers may have offered Hunter a 6 year deal for over $100 million. Stress may have. I figured someone would go 6/15 and pray for a miracle. There is three shots out there and four or five teams gunning. If I was Rowand, I'd be waiting for Hunter to sign, that may make the likes of the Rangers and Sox getting a little fidgety. There is probably a formula for what Rowand gets based on Hunter's contract. Perhaps 75%-80%. But Hunter will establish the market for the other guys. If the report is true, those guys should kiss the Dodger's asses.

OFFICIAL: Sox Sign Linebrink - 4 yrs, 19 mil
What is nice about this is on past White Sox scales, this would have been THE move of the winter. Instead it's a small incremental one of about 5 or 6 that may happen. It's a blip past Uribe. I can't get too worked up either way. It's money and draft picks, too things I let the organization worry about. No players are leaving so hey, why not.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) Heh, well... The first time she came over to our place, her and I started up this really indepth conversation about our lives, while my roommate kind of sat back. I've also gone out to dinner with her twice...they've yet to do the same. She told me she considers me her best friend, despite the fact that I've only known her a couple months, and as soon as she told me that, that's when the texts picked up. She probably tells me she misses me a couple times of day, and that she loves me. She also said she finds it really hard to be as open with people as she is with me. However, she really seems into my roommate, and they hump like rabbits. I dunno. I'm the kind of guy who's bros before hos. I haven't really sensed her being "into" me. It's just kind of interesting how it's unfolding. Kinda high schoolish. Oh, and she is good looking. A. Tell your buddy he needs to start seeing other people B. Start texting back C. Tell your buddy you're sorry, you didn't mean it to happen, she's insatiable.

For GOP only
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 05:44 PM) This past week I went to a forum on the Iraq War. There were 5 professors at my school that talked about an hour combined, all of them not supporting the war and all of them making fun of Bush and one person even said, "I don't see parties as Democrats or Republicans, I see them as the party of life, or the party of death," and he for sure wasn't talking about abortion. It just bothers me because the university didn't get one single pro-war or conservative view point. There was one person that gave facts and everyone else mostly gave opinions about it. That's a shame. Worse is when the token opposition is so clearly mismatched, it's comical.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 06:58 PM) The only job I had where I dealt with someone outside the US I was dealign with a French company. All the sales people I spoke with, and the contracts person and the 2 engineers that we spoke with to make sure the product met the specs we needed spoke English. Was that a good thing?

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 02:42 PM) Of course she gets more than the other candidates. It makes every bit of sense. For one thing, they GOP WANTS Clinton to win. She's still got absurdly high negatives, and she is more beatable than the other candidates in a general election via the currently favored methods of mudslinging. Also, she happens to be a favorite target because she is a CLINTON. So its really no surprise she gets so much attention from the political right. Agree 100%

Thome, Crede, and Fields
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 01:40 PM) Whatever you mean...the key variable is whether or not we get to choose the days off. If we can choose the days off, then we can schedule them when there's a LHP on the mound starting. With Thome's extreme L/R splits, that's really the only thing that matters. I'm willing to sacrifice on the total # of games played by Jim/Swings taken by Jim if it helps maximize the number of AB's he gets against RHP. That's my whole point here; if giving Thome extra time off when there's a LHP on the mound prevents him from having to sit against RHP, it's a major improvement on our overall numbers. OK, I would agree. And since many mangers like the R-L-R-L kind of split in their rotations, it would be tought to find many back to back LHP games to have him sit.

Since he received a nice $15 mil per year offer from the Twins, will he be a greedy SOB who only cares about the money if he signs with the Sox instead of staying with Minny?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 11:23 AM) There are certainly some predatory lending stories out there, and the banks do deserve some blame. More importantly, some laws need to be tweaked. But ultimately, the single biggest factor was stupid decisions made by people with their homes. You want to fix that? Make basic finance a required course to graduate high school. You'd have a lot few victims of all types of fraud, and a lot fewer bankruptcies and foreclosures, if everyone got the basic tools to survive in the modern financial world. We had comsumer ed in High School which covered this, is it no longer being taught? That would be a shame. My kids played the "Stock Market Game" but I do not remember them studying loans. BTW, youngest son and his partner won for their school one year. He decided to buy Timberland stock because he loved the boots he was wearing and couldn't think of any other stocks.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 01:22 PM) I'm so f***ing sick and tired of this stupid Queen b**** running around talking about "For 15 years, I have been the object of the Republican attack machine and I'm still here." Even if it's her own party, it's the "Republican attack machine". Whatever, b****. GO THE f*** AWAY... She does receive more than her share of negative energy from Reps. Look at the posts here. She has been a huge selling point by the GOP. Just listen to Rush and you see what gets the ratings, and it's attacking Hillary. The most misleading emails are about here. She is a lightening rod for negativity.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 08:12 AM) And there you go right down the slippery slope. Its not really lying, so Bush gets away with it too. Its politics. If we don't have standards for our Presidents, we don't have standards as a country. He lied under oath, and half of the country make excuses for him, while the other half wants his head. The sad thing was that wasn't even the worst thing he did, but that is a discussion for a different day I guess. Exactly. Clinton's inability to act in a moral manner, then lying about it, effectively killed any leadership and power he had after that point. The worst was not being able to go after Bin Laden. The half of the country that wanted his head would have been screaming "tail wagging the dog", he's making up this bogeyman. And to tell you the truth, I probably would have agreed. And I know it is wrong to hold one person's actions against another, but I really cannot stand the thought of him smiling at some head of state function with the other spouses. I just wish they would go away.

John McDonough in as Blackhawks President
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 01:44 PM) I saw bits of that article from Rozner, what a tool. Seriously -- he spent more than a couple sentences ripping Tallon for trading Karl f***ing Stewart? If you just said "who?", you're probably not the only one -- it took me a minute to remember that Stewart was that fourth line midget that skated hard and hit people last season. Talk about grinding an axe. How the hell do some of these columnists keep their jobs? it looks line one sentence? I don't know Rozner, does he have a history with Tallon? Overall I thought it was a very positive article.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) Awesome idea, hitless. The end result would be the same, so why give him the money sooner? A career ending injury could occur. I think you are right, it is the correct way to analyze the contract, he seems by year four everyone is overpaid by performance or underpaid by what other guys who have signed new contracts are getting. Would any hometown discount be the Rangers, the Twins, or Pine Bluff AR?
