QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) I'd go 4 years with Torii for the right salary levels. Better would be 3, plus maybe a performance-vesting option for 4, or something like that. Another way to look at it is taking his total contract salary and consider it over three seasons with any additional years at zero. I know that doesn't make sense but if his total dollars are $60 million, that's $20 mil a year, I do not care if it is written 10 years at $6 mil, or 5@$12. I know they can't structure it that way, but that is how I would evaluate the deal over the next 5 years. I know that still doesn't make sense, these deals always look like he is underpaid in years 1&2 and overpaid in 4,5.
  2. One key factor that is missing is how they want her to dress. "Professional" is what I read. I assume that the President didn't say wear something that shows off that great body. This is very subtle harassment, almost reverse of the stereotypical behavior that Neanderthal bosses displayed in the dark ages. Would anyone's opinion of harassment change if the President said he just wanted her to dress more conservatively? I agree with Steff in what steps she should take, but we may find at the end of the rainbow, it is a poor attempt at helping her.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 12:39 PM) I not so concerned with the potential salary Torii will get. But, I'm very concerned with the length of the contract. Four years is probably a stretch. Five years means he'll be a freak of nature if he's still good. Since he's already turned down 3 years at 15M per, I'm very leary of this possible deal.

Hmm, a guy from Minny who people think is a terrible team mate? Where have I heard that before? Having said that, I'm not that excited about him.
  6. I think the committee has to be careful to be certain whatever criteria they use can be applied to every candidate. That may be tricky.
  7. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) If your in public, how can your privacy be invaded? If you rent a hall, picnic, area, etc. can you exclude people from coming in? That seems to be the salient point.
  8. PA, because there are real Church and State issues that Phelps brought up, and you would be the most likely, (of a group of not likely) to agree with that point of view, I responded seriously. Although, IIRC you have not agreed with the hate he spews. People who thinks he has the right to spew do not necessarily agree with what is being said, just his right to say it.
  9. They are free to make their statements in other venues, take out newspaper ads, whatever. I think our society should make distinctions in where certain speech can take place.
  10. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 11:51 AM) unfortunately, this sets back the separation of church and state argument a few years I really do not think so. The State is not creating a Church. They are enforcing laws, and even Churches are required to follow the law. If you ran a store and they walked in and started screaming at your customers and chasing them out of your store, you can have them removed. The popular phrase is, your right to free speech does not allow you to yell fire in a crowded theater.
  11. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 11:43 AM) I hope there is a hell. I'd really like them to have a little chat with God first. Then bye bye*. *unless they change their ways and are forgiven.
  12. If funerals are not private, I do not know what would be. If common sense a decency does not stop them, then maybe fining them into oblivion will. Have the Baptist allowed him to continue any official connections to the Baptist Church? I cannot believe they would. I even dislike his little band of hate called a Church.
  13. QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 05:48 PM) I'm an internet junkie solely because of your avatar. ain't that the truth.
  14. QUOTE(NUKE @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 09:38 AM) You see, the funny thing is that a lot of that sort of thing gets labeled sectarian crime and thusly is somehow the military's problem when it would happen anyway. Which is why I was thinking if we applied "success" factoring in this stuff, what American city would pass? The law enforcement aspect to me seems like a huge misdirection of our attention. Seems unfair to our military.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 09:50 AM) The lady basically says she wants to stop the free market process and redistribute their wealth and that's a GOP problem? GMAFB. Some days, you're not even worth talking to. I'm not going to sit here and argue, anyone that would like to understand her quotes *in context* follow the snopes.com link.

And the free market failed. That's socialism at it's finest according to the GOP? The free market failed, if you read where that sound bite was taken from, in making abortion rare. I guess that reducing abortions is socialism? You guys are usually at least accurate when you take someone to task for comments. This is just unfair. There are plenty of things to criticize Hillary for without this sort of stuff.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 08:31 AM) Out of context or not, she is saying that she wants to enact socialistic policies, PERIOD. I guess this shows how effective sound bites are. So the Federal Trade Commission is a socialist agency? That overview of the oil industry is a socialist item. That trying to reduce our reliance on foreign oil is socialism? So Republicans favor stopping all monitoring of the most profit industry, the oil industry.

  19. Now this is a cool professor. Changed tonight's test to a take home and mentioned he needed to get to the Halloween party at his house. Then proceeded to invite the class.

SS convinced me the flat tax is the worst idea, ever. It unfairly taxes the lowest income levels who can least afford it. Look at it like homes. If you make $500,000 per year you have a certain home. Perhaps 4-5 bedrooms, a pool, five baths, a four car garage, etc. If you make $20,000 per year you probably rent, or if you do own your home, it is a modest 1,400 sq foot 3 bedroom 2 bath 2 car garage. Each person can afford that home. Now look at taxes paying for the country we live in. Do you want to live in the country that is built based on what the guy that makes $20,000 per year can afford to pay in taxes? That is what a flat tax would create. Instead we have to tax the individuals who can afford it the most, in order to have the security we want, the roads we want, the education we want, etc.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 02:00 PM) Taxing is one thing. Boning someone who makes over a certain amount for no good reason is another. At a certain point, your tax rate is higher already the more you make. So whats with the inital kick before they reach in for the rest of the money. There is no need to tax the wealthy. By not taxing them, they will spend their money, employing more people, and with all that growth will come more money than what the government could ever hope to get by taxing them. It's been proven, just look at the last round of cuts and the resulting surpluses.
  22. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 02:39 PM) Of course not. . . . I was going to say, top shelf tequila and coffee have worked better, beer seemed to impersonal
  23. Reading the news in any big city, shootings, knifing, killing, theft, assault, how much of what we are seeing is the run of the mill, third world big city violence that wouldn't be reported if the US military wasn't right there?
  24. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 11:46 AM) And, by the way, none of those things on that list work if a student is trying to befriend me nearly as well as a 6-pack of Guinness on nights when I gave to grade papers. Would you really accept a six-pack from a student?
