Have you heard about the big strong man? He lived in a caravan. Have you heard about the Jeffrey Johnson fight? Oh, Lord what a hell of a fight. You can take all of the heavyweights you've got. We've got a lad that can beat the whole lot. He used to ring bells in the belfry, Now he's gonna fight Jack Demspey. Next: Vampires Plant, Palmer, what's the dif? FireStorm 2007
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 10:33 AM) kids > pets > kids' stuff Unless your house is literally on fire I can't imagine someone just saying "just leave the dogs". I can't either, but if the rescue crews are there evacuating you, I can't see staying and trying to find the cat. I can't see risking anyone's life for a pet. But some do put human life and animal life on the same level.

I guess turn-about is fair play
QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 06:37 AM) Man boobs can't be seen on television but damnit if it isn't seen as a good and patriotic mission by a man of God for the US to send in the military to fight and die in a grisly foreign war in far off lands in the Middle East. It always boggles my mind that many (not all but the vast majority) of the people who want decency in TV, movies, video games etc. somehow conveniently miss the fact that they also promote actual warfare compared to pixelated and controlled (i.e. wrestling) violence and indecency. The level of necessity differentiates going to war and entertainment. It is a bad analogy, and I'm a little surprised you would have used it.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 10:25 AM) No doubt. We don't have any kids, so our dog would be priority #1, actually. F*ck everything else (clothing, material items, etc). How anyone could think otherwise is beyond me. Your kids become the bigger priority and their needs. When you are chasing around finding their stuff and making certain they are out of danger, the pets come second.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 09:54 AM) I have no problem with that assessment of ELF. Like I said, it was just an example... And with a little time we kind find all sorts of examples. The firtst example I could think of was the Pro-Lifers that kill in the name of saving lives.

Who Ya Rooting For?
QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 09:24 AM) As much as I hate the Red Sox and especially their fandom, it's not to the same level of contempt that I have for the Yankees and the Flubs and their stupid fans. I have tried to pull for the Rockies but it just doesn't work. It's not real. I'm American League through and through and deep down, I'm glad to see the American League dominate. I think the league allegiance thing will die with our generation. Interleague play, the internet, satellite TV, mlb-TV, all kind of chip away at those old allegiances.

FireStorm 2007
I remember with Katrina some people criticized people for valuing animal lives ahead of humans. The animals took up space in rescue vehicles, the sanitation issues at shelters, rescue workers wind up dealing with the animals during the rescue, etc. I think it depends on where you are evacuating to, each situation is different. Sad when people have to make choices like that. I'd never want to leave a pet behind.

(mixing threads) When I read stuff like this, I think, that's corruption. That is why I find it hard to call our government corrupt.

For Dems only.
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) It's corrupt in different ways. People are paying bribes all the time. Tell me why it is you have to make a $1000 campaign contribution as a business (read: PAC) to get access to the government officials? Think about it. You pay to gain the proper access. It's not blatent corruption, but it is corrupt none the less. Look around the globe. Look at Mexico ten years ago. The UN. To call a government corrupt, IMHO, illegal transactions would be the norm, not the exception. People would not be convicted, let alone, charged for bribery, etc. The public would somewhat accept the officials as dishonest. You start walking the halls from congress to your local school board and pass out bribes. I'll bet a tiny percentage would accept them. It is not as clean as anyone would like, but it falls way short of what I would call corrupt.

For Dems only.
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 03:10 PM) The government's not stupid. It's corrupt. There's a difference. No sir. There may be a few corrupt individuals in our government, the government as a whole, is not corrupt. When was the last time you paid a bribe to get a driver's license? Building permit? When was the last time a cop shook you down? Sorry Kap, I have to call a crap on that one.
