Hurricane Rita.
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 05:16 PM) It still has plenty of time, by the way, to go through a full cycle of this before it slams ashore. This one is a f***ing Monster. When the evacuation order was given for Key West, only 50% of the residents left. Hopefully the people in Texas are looking towards Louisiana and seeing what it did there. The maddening thing to me is, people will die. There is no way anyone should die in this, yet they will. :headshake

A.J. FUCKING PIERZYNSKI
My Fav AJ moment is throwing down to third after a strike out, he looks and acts excited for the strike out. AJ and Everett were suppose to be terrible clubhouse guys. I'll take those troubles times 25.

The MOOD of Palehose
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) That is a good Texas phrase. Right up there with, "Why yes, I'd be happy to be a member of your Cabinet, Mr. President." And no one needs to know about that DUI and we'll get rid of those Air National Guard sign in sheets.

Catch-All Anything Thread
A professor at Cleveland University was giving a lecture of the supernatural. To get a feel for his audience, he asks, "How many people here believe in ghosts?" About 90 students raise their hands. "Well, that's a good start. Out of those of you who believe in ghosts, do any of you think you have seen a ghost?" About 40 students raise their hands. "That's really good. I'm really glad you take this seriously. Has anyone here ever talked to a ghost?" About 15 students raise their hand. "Has anyone here ever touched a ghost?" 3 students raise their hands. "That's fantastic. Now let me ask you one question further...Have any of you ever made love to a ghost?" Way in the back, Bubba raises his hand. The professor takes off his glasses, and says "Son, all the years I've been giving this lecture, no one has ever claimed to have made love to a ghost. You've got to come up here and tell us about your experience." The big redneck student replied with a nod and a grin, and began to make his way up to the podium. When he reached the front of the room, the professor asks, "So, Bubba, tell us what it's like to have sex with a ghost?" Bubba replied, "Shiiiit! From way back thar I thought you said 'Goats'."

Leahy! to vote FOR Roberts
I believe the President has the responsibility to nominate someone with solid character, citizenship, morals, and who has demonstrated knowledge of Constitutional law. If those standards are met, the persons political ideology should not be a factor. I respect Bush's decision to find a conservative like himself, just like I respected Clinton's decision to reach out to Senate Republicans before making his selections.

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) I collapsed in the aisle of my section, got to my knees and let 20,000 pounds of bad karma flow off my back. Great thread idea!

Sorry QP. Pets add so much to our lives, but there is always the down side, when they leave us. Stinky was a lucky rodent to live such a happy life. I am certain that you will be rewarded for caring for one of God's creatures like you did.

I also think we have come to believe that nothing is impossible for America. I love that. Despite how badly we executed in New Orleans, I have no doubt that the nest one will be better, and the one after that even better.

Hurricane Rita.
QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Being an ex-framer, this will work. Thanks Yas. I didn't put in the detail 2x4s to strengthen the plywood covering and creating a place to screw to. It is sooo much faster and easier than cutting to fit. I only worry about the posts pulling out of the ground. But I figure by then I have bigger problems than that. Is there a best angle for the brace? I was about at a 45 degree. My house is brick and I have a couple great rooms away from the wind, and without really big windows for riding the storm out. We're sitting here wondering what it's going to do like everyone else. The last one hooked south and missed us, but that one was coming from the south, not the east. The longer the high pressure ridge stays intact, the worse for me. I haven't seen Jim Cantori yet, so I guess we're going to be fine.

21st Century Baseball Memories
Starting yesterday afternoon, until well after the game finished, I realized this was the ultimate marriage of technology and baseball. I've been a Sox fan for almost 40 years and have never been so plugged into a game. I "talked" with everyone at Soxtalk. Jumped on the Rally Crede bandwagon very early, watched the game on mlb.tv, was in the chat for a while, the game thread for a while, IMing, and emailing, all about the game. I is easily one of my top 5 greatest White Sox moments.

Hurricane Rita.
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 07:34 AM) Holy s***! This thing is going to be just like Katrina when it hit, and we are still right in the bullseye as it moves inland. The forecasts are for 50 mph sustained winds with higher gusts here for a period of 6-8 hours. Ugh. Kap, if you decide to board up any windows, I prefer the bigger sheet of plywood and anchoring to the ground. Kind of like setting a wall while framing. W| I| N| D|\ O| \ W| \| ____|________ground level xxxx|xxxxxxxx xxxx|xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxx Does the diagram make sense? The board is held against the house and nailed to a post set a foot or two into the ground. Nothing is screwed into the house and all size windows are easy to cover. No extra sawing and trying to fit to the window frame.

Hurricane Rita.
Waiting to see when, where the high pressure ridge breaks up. The longer it stays intact and strong, the worse the weather for me. If it collapses like the '69 Cubs, it will be clear skies for me.

So what did you do when Crede homered
OMG OMG I can't believe it. The Rally Crede. Who could have predicted it? Jas, WTF didn't he have a stock tip instead of a Crede tip I was emailing back and forth with a friend of mine who is not a big sports fan and she was excited. I couldn't believe it when she wrote Crede Homered to Deep Left.

Hurricane Katrina
I was just thinking, in all this talk about readiness to respond, has anyone considered that some disasters are on a scale that we could never be ready for? Maybe we can't make every situation come out happy for everyone. Maybe there truly isn't anything we can do to stop every conceivable catastrophe from happening.
