QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) I know a good deal of the Galvaston Bay Panaeus vannaemi (Pacific white shrimp) story, and several of the farmers and scientists who have been involved. There definitely is a cause for concern growing a non-native species in coastal ponds, because there is 100% certainty of escape. As with the South Carolina white shrimp ops though, although escapee shrimp have been seen in the whiled, no evidence of a reproductive populatin establishing itself ever was found to my knowledge. Nutrient waste pollution inputs to natural receiving waters are also a concern in any aquacultuer operation. Viral epidemics, bad farm management, etc., have all played a part in really hobbling the Texas industry. And honestly, if I had my way, they'd abandon coastal ponds altogether and go with intensive recirculating (closed) systems, which would greatly lessen problems with both escapes and pollution. That is how we grow Pacific whites at my institution, btw. Actually I hear more about the ponds adjacent to the Arroyo Colorado running near South Padre Island. Much further south. But the same concerns. And props for the latin lesson

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 07:24 PM) Why should Bush meet with a woman who has spewed all sorts of vile invective in the national media against him? Why? This b**** said America is not worth dying for. She can kiss my ass. Bush should only meet with people who agree with him. That way he will know he is doing a great job.

Modest Mouse I'm probably way behind. I know. But better late than never.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) Then McCheese got Big Mac fired in a political power grab. McChese is currently being investigated and an indictment is expected to be handed down soon. Just a bunch of bias from the media

"now dammit, now, play me like an air guitar . . ." Anyone else want to play statues? I'm a little teapot short and stout, here is my handle, here is my spout.

QUOTE(DePloderer @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 07:08 PM) At least you fellas can talk to your mates about the Sox. Mine just shake their heads and look on me as an oddity. I miss most games on MLBtv because of the time difference. Most mornings I'm rushing to print of reports from the Herald and Times to read at work while they can read the back pages of the newspapers to follow the football or Rugby. Hey DeP, when you get a chance, could you explain cricket to me. Maybe start a thread over in the sports bar. I need a team to cheer for also.

QUOTE(alexgtp @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 04:24 PM) I was wondering if any of you are the same as me. I have not missed a whitesox broadcast this year. If I am at work i listen to them on the radio. I the game starts befor i get home I have it on the tivo.. Heck I sometimes even listen to the game in the afternoon if it is an afternoon game and than i get home I watch the comcast replay.. WTF!! Issues I tell ya... Actually you are a damn slacker. 100 posts? Common man, have an opinion, learn to type faster. Have you not been in a game thread? Hell some guys post 100 posts per inning.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) That whole area is beautiful. My wife has family down there, and we actually got to go out onto the track. I loved it down there. I see you found the sports nerds thread Man, no love for #3 :headshake I won two and was hoping for a trade before ebay.

The last thing she wants now is to meet with the President. The world tour would end, the cameras would go home. Interesting the party that kept saying if Clinton had just admitted his affair with Monica, it all would have gone away fast, isn't taking their own advice and making a bad scene go away fast. And I am in favor of the President waving to her as he drives by. Maybe she could meet with the junior undersecretary's assistant to the junior chief of army intelligence.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) I'm the EnviroCop, coming to bust yer ass. Do NOT eat swordfish or Chilean sea bass ever again. I'm surprised the Cali Earthcookie fish huggers (my peeps) haven't caught up with you yet. Eat farmed salmon if possible (and even that has its own environmental issues), and enjoy your ahi as long as it is yellowfin and not bluefin. As you were. We have a battle here about farm raised shrimp and their impact on the environment, but so far the environment in question seems to be all economic and taste bud orientated.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) I didn't read the original post, although it's fairly easy easy to imagine what it said or showed, but it's good to see the mods cleaning up a bit on the personal attacks... Actually the post wasn't that bad, and would have been allowed in the past. The ultrasound picture was funny as far as I was concerned. But we are trying to add a little civility here and hopefully everyone will benefit. And thank you again Steff for being so understanding. Some people really go nuts when they have a post edited.

Freedom of speech allows us to support our leaders in sending troops into harms way whenever and where ever they want. It does not allow us to criticize those leaders for sending troops into harms way whenever and where ever they want. Gee, how many times does Rush have to teach you that?

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) Sorry, and noted. I am certain your comment is appreciated by many. I know the admins and mods really dislike editing posts. BTW, in another context, that is one damn funny picture.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) A die hard fan also doesn't wear blinders and pretend everything is alright when its clearly not. That's called a Cub fan

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) Thank you for that beautiful rendition. It actually took me quite long to read this post, as I sung the words in my mind as I read them... It looks like they are dancing in a broadway review

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 01:43 PM) A die-hard Sox fan doesn't go around jumping on and off at the slightest hint of adversity, in my opinion... But that's my point. Anyone care to guess the ratio of die hard fans to casual fans at the ballpark? We call them bandwagon jumpers, but just as likely they are people who are going to a MLB game and choose between the Cubs and Sox for the experience. They could give a rip about loyalty. That's one reason we get crushed in the attendance battle. It isn't the hard core fans, it's the let's go to a game this year fan who the battle is for. When 33,000 walk through the turnstyle, the same 5,000 hard core fans are there as when the team draws 11,000. The other 28,000 are there for the experience. That's why Dog Days, Elvis Night, Million Mullet March, and Fireworks are so popular. Viva la Bandwagon Jumpers!! Here let me give you a hand getting on. Here's your cap, your foam finger, and don't forget to log on to soxtalk.com Enjoy the ride, leave with your wallet empty.

Commie. Why do you hate America? Very good op-ed piece.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) That's because despite being a devout Christian, I hate Christians, and do everything I can to make their lives on Soxtalk miserable. Oh, you are one of those self hating Christians . . .

I'm singing in the rain Just singing in the rain What a glorious feeling I'm happy again I'm laughing at clouds So dark up above The sun's in my heart And I'm ready for love For love Let the stormy clouds chase Everyone from the place Come on with the rain I've a smile on my face I'll walk down the lane With a happy refrain Singing, singing in the rain In the rain.
-
Those bandwagon jumpers are the exact fans that Brooks and Co. are working so hard to get out to the park and spend some of their entertainment dollars on the Sox. We have the hard core fans, teh difference between the two teams is the "entertainment fans" who decide if they are going to see a movie, go to a Sox game, or visit friends in Alsip.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 12:55 PM) Supporting someone who supports murder ISN'T in support of Christianity. There are no exceptions to "Thou shalt not kill" Well some argue that if 7 of your peers decide you should die, and the government has a method that isn't "cruel and unusual", it's OK.

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) What exactly is a delayed steal anyway? I know I stole home a few times when the catcher would lob the ball back to the pitcher. I'd just walk halfway down the line and if they weren't paying much attention I'd just take off the rest of the way. I got accused of cheating by opposing coaches a couple of times. that's a delayed steal. Watch the catcher, some will make a soft toss to the pitcher, and a lot of times the pitcher will not be paying attention.

hey dickhead, why don't you go in and get him out? If the police can protect the public without the risk of a gun battle inside the house, then I'd wait also.

chick fight! chick fight! Think they ripped off any clothes?? BTW, are those sort of personal attacks banned here at Soxtalk?
