QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) This site makes me rich. I guess we have to train the N00b. That should be in green.

Go back 15 years and add up all the World Series participants from the AL East and NL East. Duh, there is an East Coast bias, because that's where the champions come from. For most of the country, the baseball season will not start for another 5 or 6 weeks. They tune in for the final pennant races and the playoffs.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 01:25 AM) It's funny how I could say the sky was blue and I would still get a hard time from some of you clowns. You would say it at night

The Yankees will try anything. I still think he needs a trip to a NL contender.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 06:56 PM) Never be surprised by Flaxx or Tex knowing something! Tex, I bet I could give your story a run for it's money a bit. :headshake I was the biggest jerk in the world. While she was planning a romantic 3 year anniversary weekend for us, I was planning on breaking up with her and had already lined up a date with this really hot girl from one of my classes. We wound up going out for 2 years, 11 months, 3 weeks, and 5 days. The only redeeming value, the only shred of decency or karma, is I married the woman I dumped her for. To this day I cannot believe that was me being so mean an insensitive. Of course back then I was in the Young Republicans, I guess they rubbed off on me.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) I don't know...many songs make me nostalgic for "home" when I was a kid. "Feeling Stronger Everyday" - Chicago "With a Little Luck" - Wings Many more, but those four REALLY make me think of life in my parents house and being a kid. Both make me think of home, but With a Little Luck was Senior Year, sitting in the Senior Lounge, playing 7 card stud and hiding the money from the teachers. It also reminds me of the girl I was dating at the time and who has the best, my boyfriend was the biggest asshole when we broke up story. To this day, I cannot believe what a no good, jerk I was to that girl. But I still like the song.

QUOTE(mreye @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 10:32 AM) I don't mind Federal money going to the Interstate system. It's needed. I have a problem with Federal money going to "Construction of County Road 17" in Elkhart, Indiana. http://www.taxpayer.net/Transportation/hr3database/INF.pdf But isn't the federal money coming from people who will travel down County Road 17? Perhaps that's a bad example, but it's our money, I'm not as hung up on which group of crooks, errrrrr elected representives, chooses what to build as I am them choosing good, worthy projects. I'm not certain that state cronies would be much better than national cronies.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) Well one day the name Soxtalk.com sounded like a good idea...the rest is history and I've been kicking myself in the ass ever since. I try blowing up the server thinking you all would get the hint, but no, instead more people just show up Just wait, one day you'll see a banner with a bunch of ivy in it In all serious, I'll throw a little history in here. I was visiting WSI one day and saw a post by this weird guy named RIO (from the ESPN boards as well) and it said he was starting a website. I almost never went on the internet back than but found it interesting and shot him an email. Ended up starting SoxNet.net and I helped him out with it. We had a message board there but eventually came up with the idea of starting a seperate board and came up with the name Soxtalk.com We'd kind of split market them, posting articles here and on SoxNet and than eventually getting FutureSox.com involved. SoxNet closed a little more than 2 years ago but Soxtalk has continued to grow and grow and the site never ceases to amaze me (and thats a good thing...most of the time). Its been a cool ride and it takes up way too much of not only my time, but everyone's time. We could of cured some major disease with all the time everyone here has put into Soxtalk. Begging for props is just so uncool. Actually,

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) Just found a splinter of wood in my sammich. Scared the hell outta me because I thought I broke another bracker. It still sucks because I made my sammich and I damn well know I didn't put that there. That's called a toothpick, people use it to keep the two halves of the sammich together. Sheez, what planet did she drop in from?

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 10:21 AM) As a matter of fact, I might go out in our parking lot and watch Air Force One land. you are such a geek Truth be told: Living in Chicago during yet another Presidential visit = pissed, highways tied up. Living in McAllen during President Clinton visit = drive by airport to see Air Force 1 Kap, which Texan are we going to make President in '08? I'm thinking the Hammer.

QUOTE(mreye @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) Yes. See, I think my Federal taxes should be minimum and my state taxes should be more. The downside is our economy benefits from a great interstate road system. When a manufacturer in Boise needs to get a shipment to a distributor in Detroit, it all has to work together. As long as that is kept intact, I don't care how the money and oversite is divided up. You would be shifting the pork to a state level. You might have some wonderfully untravelled roads downstate while the Chicago suburbs get shafted, depending on the clout of the state reps. GOP = downstate projects DEM = Chicago

Someone, and I thought it was Southsider, but he denies it, (I don't blame him) sent me the link over at ESPN. He thought I actually knew something about baseball and would add to the conversation. Silly fool.

QUOTE(mreye @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) See, I believe the states should only receive highway money for Federal Interstates. But we pay a federal road tax when we buy gasoline. We pay that tax wether we drive on interstate highways or not. Unless you are also proposing having the feds send that money to the state (and being from a huge ass state, I's agree) we are stuck with this system. Isn't it nice to see what our elected leaders can do when they work together?

The biggest fight in my corner of the world was how the Rio Grande Valley would fit in. The two options, IIRC, were Laredo to Harlingen (spur to Brownsville) and up and having separate spurs from Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley connecting near Rte 37/281/77. It is huge for us. The second project, and could well be called pork, is a second major east-west route. Currently there is one highway connecting the area. The major growth is being stalled somewhat because of the business needs to be near the highway. A second, northern route, would open a lot of land for economic development. A study of other cities and metropolitan areas have all concluded that this type of "loop" have been done much sooner than the RGV would have theirs.

I love that night. Sorry Busty Daker, you have not lived up to the hype and Chicagoans are going to trash ya. Duh, welcome to the Windy City and the sometimes not Friendly Confines.

I didn't know there were rules for this sort of thing

QUOTE(mreye @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:39 AM) If it's "in the 5 fastest growing areas" it must be generating tax dollars. Why can't the state handle the road projects? The biggest need is a major transportation link from Mexico to Canada. It has been in the planning stages for about 8 or 9 years, and portions of existing roadways have been improved to meet national standards.Because the route winds through 6 or 7 states, it must be a national project. http://www.keeptexasmoving.com/projects/i69/
-
I am quickly becoming more and more critical of the UN. I embrace the idea of a "all nations" gathering, but I am beginning to believe it may be time to shut this one down and start over. When Rush starts making sense to me on any topic, I'm frightened, but I'm starting to lean towards his kernal of truth, but not the hyperbole.
-
I am wondering if a key big of asphalt, the new I69 project that would link Laredo with Canada is among the projects. There are a couple much needed roadways down by me. The area has been in the five fastest growing sreas for the past 10 years without much new road construction.

I spun off into some blues and this is probably a giant duh to y'all music experts, but Red House by Hendrix is blowing me away. I can not believe I have never heard this before. I'm reacquainting myself with Howlin Wolf, Hooker, KoKo, BB, Muddy, Stevie, Sonny Boy, side trip to Billie Holiday (Greatest Female Vocalist Ever?), Bessie What's really cool is a great blues bar is only about 1000 miles away in the Mississippi Delta
-
I don't listent to the blues very often, but when I do hear some Howlin Wolf, BB King, Muddy Waters, etc. I get so damn homesick. Right now I'm listening to BB King's The Thrill is Gone and just dying to be back up north. I've got to find a weekend free.
