Wow. Just wow.
QUOTE(mreye @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 07:10 AM) We're forgetting something. It was LEGAL to carry boxcutters onto the plane! I believe airlines can set whatever stricter standards they want. There are many areas that different airlines have diffferent cargo, checked bags, and carry on restrictions. The challenge the intelligence community has is sorting through threats without means and opportunity from threats with means and opportunity. It is really easy in hindsight to come up with the correct action, far harder when the stuff is mounding over your desk.

Walmart Workers Unionize, Walmart Closes
WalMart survives and thrives by low prices. They negotiate hard with their suppliers as well.

Scalped?!?!
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 06:33 PM) Good question, what would make a much older person want to hang out with teenagers in a group like that??? It may have started as an innocent relationship on an internet message board.

If it was called profit sharing it was probably not taken from your check. For $30, I don't think it's worth getting an attorney. Be careful filing your taxes, unmatched 1099 do cause the IRS to get excited, regardless of the amount.- Scalped?!?!
Head wounds bleed and bleed. I couldn't imagine how much blood must have been spilled.- Tax Question
QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 01:46 PM) He did say deducting.. Some people just assume it was deductions. There are other explanations. It is strange they were doing it without his permission.- Power Outage
QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) I have similar expectations. Well crap then, he's screwed- Tax Question
QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) They were deducting 401K funds WITHOUT your permission..?? Umm.. you better make a fuss about it. It's against the law and you should report them. Also check to see if they were deducting -or- this was a benefit and just company monies. Rare, but possible. A person that worked for me had that situation with her previous company. IIRC there are IRS guidelines about top heavy plans, common in places like Doctors offices where the Doc tosses in $$$$ and the employees do not participate. So the Doc needed more participation and contributed regardless of the employee's particpation. (More if they particpated)- Power Outage
QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) I don't even think it's a case of Garland being a head case. I think it's just a matter of maturity. I believe he'll get to a "Pavano-like" status eventually. If he finishes the season as our #5, I will be surprised and believe it is far more likely we won the division and 1-4 had great seasons. My best guess now is he finished the season as our #3 or #4 with 16-17 wins against 10 loses. He's just now hitting his prime years.- Corey Feldman doubts MJ...
I wonder if he will argue he should be locked up in a juvenile facility since most of his plastic body parts are less than 18 years old . . .- Dubya the Musical
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 08:45 AM) Good list. I hear the working title for the musical is "All Hat and No Horse." Learn to speak Texas, that's All hat and no cattle . . .- Parting shots from Maggs
QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 8, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) I thought it was for 4 years.. he wanted 5 and that's where the 70 million with it deferred for 2 years came into play..? The 70 was defered but much longer than 2 years which was the sticky point. That was also before Maggs brought in Boras. He brought in Boras after the injury, and in hindsight was a smart move. Boras had done a similar contract with I-Rod.- Gammons article about Maggs/Sox
All of the experts whose job it is to follow baseball are wrong. Fans who are totally unbiased, like those here, are correct. We're not drinking whatever koolaid the teams are serving, not like all the experts. Pods will rebound to 2003 levels! Dye will stop striking out! Iguchi will do even better than he did in Japan! No question marks on this team. Suddenly we're the genius of the Central Division. Print the playoff tickets now. I'm as happy with the changes as the next person, but I can understand why people are not picking this team. It was blown apart and rebuilt. We can hope the pitching holds up. We can hope guys rebound and return to past glory.- Happy Birthday RIBBIE!!!!

Stats aren't my strongest suit but for it to be a SVO doesn't the following conditions need to be met? A pitcher can earn a save by completing ALL three of the following items: 1. Finishes the game won by his team. 2. Does not receive the win. 3. Meets one of the following three items: a: Enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches at least one inning. b: Enters the game with the tying run either on base, at bat, or on deck. c: Pitches effectively for at least three innings. Is it a SVO if the pitcher comes in the 8th inning with a 4 run lead? That would partially explain our lower SVO stat. With out feast of famine offense we had a lot of blow outs and complete games.- Anyone else change or think about changing careers
I've been looking for about 6 months. I really dislike travelling in Mexico with all the recent problems along the border. The federal government has taken over Reynosa trying to fix the corruption, or getting their cut, whichever view of the world you like.- Parting shots from Maggs
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 8, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) Maggs passed his physical & was cleared for major league baseball activity. Insurance companies don't go around asking people to jump rope. They deal with medical opinions I suggest you read this again: http://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/stories.../18/story8.html An NFL player's disability insurance can cost $2,500 to $3,000 per $100,000 of salary insured each season, Lattinville said. Carriers typically cover 75 percent of a player's salary. Read the article. Even if premiums were to go up 500% it's still no where near the amounts your talking about. Unless of course you think insuring Maggs is a higher risk than insuring an NFL player He may be higher risk. Comparing a healthy NFL player to someone with a known injury who hasn't demonstrated he can play.- Power Outage
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 8, 2005 -> 03:28 PM) The Sox had 34S last year. Min had 48S. I'd rather have the saves than the HR's. I will gladly exchange a +10S potential for a +20HR potential. Are you looking at blown saves as well? Minny had more blown saves than the Sox and the Sox had more complete games. Minny also had more save opportunities. I think you're on to something here, pitching both from the #4 and #5 spot and relief have caused us a lot the past couple seasons. The losses in offense will be balanced not only by the speed but the pitching as well.- Parting shots from Maggs
QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 8, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) I haven't seen any doctors reports.. but from all that I've heard it's caused serious damage to the knee. From what I have read about it.. taking it easy is one "treatment".. obviously Maggs doesn't have that luxury if he wants to stay employed. From the articles there was three courses of treatment Do nothing and the healing would be 18 months to never. Drill holes to relieve the pressure / drain with at least 9-12 months of rest. The treatment he took in Vienna which promised 4-6 months. Which is one of the reasons the Sox would have been in a no-win situation advising Maggs of which treatment to take. Conventional treatment where he would certainly miss all of Spring training and the start of the season, without a contract. Or a "not approved in the US" surgery in Vienna. What would the Sox have said? How would having input have helped the Sox?- Parting shots from Maggs
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 8, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) Did the Sox call Geico? they could save 15% or more on insurance... That's about all they could afford . . .- True Fan
QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 8, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) I don't remember his name, but one of our WWII generals, in response to a German demand to surrender had a response that seems appropriate here. NUTS! QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 8, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) By the way.. edema doesn't go away. Does Maggs have a specialized form of edema? I thought this was temporary and could be cured? From the Intelihealth site Of course most people are not professional athletes. - Tax Question
