In the good old days of the cold war a country could cast it's fate in one of two directions. Be friends with the US or USSR. Either way, you could be a little twerp and know that a major super power would back your action. If your crops failed, someone would provide some food. If you suddenly had something of value, "your bully" would protect you. Now it's a one country game. Fear us. We can take on anyone and win. If we decide you need democracy, we'll kill as many people as necessary until you have democracy. We are #1 and not afraid to shove our weight around. Shape up or you're history. The sooner the rest of the world realizes that, the better we'll all be. :finger world. We got it all!

s***, what was he going to do if his team lost?
  4. Another guy we kept bringing back. He had what 3 or 4 trips with the Sox?
  5. QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 8, 2005 -> 09:50 AM) Compare our combined starting RF to Dye, not just Magglio. Compare our combined starting C to AJ, not just Burke. Then you might have a more accurate snapshot. Good point. Davis was .257 and Borchard was also under .300
  6. Willie .343 Uribe .327 One or the other will be playing almost everyday, so that seems a wash.
  7. So we are going to have more baserunners? obp last season: Lee .366 vs. Pods .343 Maggs .351 vs. Dye .334 Burke .386 vs. AJ .319 Jose .287 vs. Iguchi? So why will we all of a sudden have more baserunners? I must be missing something.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 08:34 PM) I was looking through an American-Dad Forum and I saw that there was a guy on there named Knucklesox, I read a couple of posts of him and believe me it's him. Those guys are f***ing obsessed with a show that's only aired one episode. OMG, there's a fan site already? I checked out amerciandad.com I don't think it's the same.
  9. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 10:12 PM) Maybe I missed something during the process, but I don't remember us offering the same $60 million contract after he got hurt. Did everybody else know this? Without any information on his injury That's about the stupidist thing I could think of doing.

A single glove freaks me out. If he added a couple sequins, it would really be creepy.

QUOTE(Mr. Zero @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 06:41 PM) You guys banned him already, at least show the decency to not talk behind his back. He asked ManofSteel to post he was coming back. I only mentioned he was the expert on American Dad and wished he was around to offer insight. IIRC he knew way more than anyone about the new series. He was the first to post the link to the new series and download the preview.
  12. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) Beastly said he "did a lot for us" and I'm stating that we never got anywhere with Ordonez. We've never gotten anywhere with Buehrle or Frank either, but at least they are class guys who don't take their cheap shots through the media like Jagglio is doing. He knows damn well that KW didn't bury him, so he should keep his mouth shut. Look at the quotes in the paper, Maggs has run his mouth while KW has handled this situation with class like a professional. Buerhle spoke lovingly about the Cardinals and Frank has spoken about being mistreated and the club not showing respect. The Club alllowed an All-Star player to leave with zero to show for it. You would think the guy single handed stopped the team from a World Series. Geez, he got a better deal somewhere else and took it. No one is calling Hermanson a greedy sob for turning down his last offer and becoming a free agent. Give the guy a break.
  13. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 05:33 PM) Like take us far in the playoffs...oh nevermind we never got anywhere. We talking about Buerhle, Frank, or Maggs?
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) Dye, Hermanson, Podsednik, Vizcaino, Hernandez, Peirzynski, Iguchi > Percival, Ordonez The realities of small market spending in baseball. Instead of having those guys and Maggs, we have to settle for one or the other. A problem teams like the Yankess and Red Sox wouldn't worry about.

QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) I don't think anyone has touched on this subject yet, so... The problem with homeruns is that they're rally killers. Once someone hits a homerun, the bases are again empty, and the pressure on the defense and pitching has lightened. Having runners on base puts constant pressure and more tension on the other team's defense and pitching. Errors become more costly because they can score runs. Hanging a pitch is an even bigger mistake because instead of a having to hit a homerun to score someone, only a single is necessary. It becomes harder for a pitcher to concentrate when he has to think about the guy on first or second stealing. He has to work out of the stretch, etc, etc. This team was designed with the '03 Marlins in mind, especially since Ozzie saw it work firsthand. I could personally care less if this year's team doesn't max out on homers (although I would like to see Thomas hit number 500 in a Sox uni) because with the speed on the basepaths that we now have, we should be able to score just as many runs or more. I would rather have the runs on the scoreboard than runners on base. You eliminate double play possibilities as well. The goal is to score runs. You are correct it does take some pressure off the pitcher, it also takes pressure off the hitter. He doesn't have to worry about hitting behind the runner. Protecting the steal, getting out of rhythm with tosses over to first.

  17. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) Although his money grubbing of late has made me sarcastically start referring to him as Whore-donez, I'm trying not to forget his contributions to the White Sox over tthe last 8 years. So who is going to bring the "Whore-donez" banner to the park and get on TV so I can live vicariously through them? Ligue and his kid are available

First of all, the UN has been political from the very beginning. An early split was over membership. Some wanted any and all countries, others did not. With money, power, and prestige, come corruption and selfish interests. Both on part of individuals and from countries. The rich and powerful wanted control, hence the security council and the permanent members.
  20. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) Losing what little credibility they have would hurt them a lot. I don't think he'll see 6 or 7 either. I think there's a good chance he won't see 2, 3, 4, or 5 either. I think he plays 2-4 or 5. He may be spending some quality time as DH, which isn't so bad. Baines enjoyed a nice long career after he couldn't play the field so well.
  21. QUOTE(YoungstownIndians @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 03:09 PM) Hey man even in the PM I sent back to you I said you could! I am here to post. Thats it. The sig is just there! And I got the right to say I hate the Sox. Even without a link! How about a weekly Tribe update? It would be nice to read an Indian fans view of the central. Think the Tigers wll be a factor?
  22. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 03:09 PM) The options vest. If he meets those requirements, the options vest. I can't see why the $105 mill couldn't be made while only playing 2 full years. Tex, that is plate appearances, not AB's. If he has 470 AB's but 70 walks, the options still do vest as he has 540 PA's. I just wonder if Detroit wouldn't intentionally have him not play during those last two years if he isn't producing well. It wouldn't surprise me, and I actually think it would be the wise thing to do. That (not playing him) was mentioned on one of the Tiger's boards. The downside for the team is they loose credibility with other players if they want to include incentives for other players. One homerun short of $500,000 and worry about getting benched. The only way these incentives work is both sides need to be fair. I doubt he'll see years 6 and 7.
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 03:04 PM) How about throwing monopoly money at him? That has always been one of my favorites. the classics never go out of style.
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) If I am understanding it right, the last two years are team options. I think the max they are stuck with is $75 mil. It isn't optional if he meets some games played or AB goals. I think it's 135 games played the previous year or 270 over the previous two. There is also an AB target. I wonder if walks count in the AB target.
  25. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) From the Overheard in NY page: Gen X Girl on cell: ...yeah, totally. It's like, last night, I had sex with this guy and the condom broke. And like I'm ovulating. And I like totally can't remember this guy's name. Whatever. --M31 bus friend: "think of the richest guy you slept with the past two weeks, and that's him"
