Steff, Buy him an entry into a Poker tournament. You would be looking for a satelite tournament that feeds into the bigger televised events. Price tage is usually between $250 and $500, depending on the location and which series it is feeding into. Obviously you could tie this into a Vegas or Atlantic City vacation. Tunica has a couple nice events every year. THere are also some schools forming. Currently most are rip offs from what I have seen. Just guys jumping in to take advantage of the current boom, which is going to bust sometime soon. There are probably some clubs forming in the area if you want to give him a once a week or month poker game.

Off season survival guide Get happy / pissed when you see the guy wearing a White Sox cap and KW is smiling like he just signed Barry Bonds for $3,000,000 a year. For the really conservative types who do not want to get their hopes up, wait for Mariotti to tell you the guy sucks and KW could have had someone better but JR is too cheap and should sell the team.

All good points. I believe that a college coach needs 4-5 seasons to prove his overall worth. He didn't even recruit any of his upperclassman. Give the guy a chance for at least 4 seasons, although I think 5 seasons is the right number.

Exactly how is it going to get better faster? Their country has been destroyed by bombs. We are rebuilding their country, repairing the infrastructure, etc. This is costing us billions of dollars. We destroy a school and then rebuild it. How long do you think we will be paying to rebuild that country? How long do you think it will take to rebuild their country? How would you feel if there were tanks rumbling down your street? How would you feel if you had to watch where you traveled or else get caught next to a suspected terrorists. These people are living in a war zone! Do you really think their lives are better at this moment then they were before? Would you like to live in a war zone? And why should they believe a democracy will work for them and make their lives better? Hell millions of Americans don't think much of democracy with the voter turnout last month. Their country has just been destroyed by US bombs. We have conquered their country. We are in charge. We have been at this for a long time and it will be a long time before their country is even close to normal.

What country do you like your cars to come from?

Mine would be rejected under the new standards. I wonder if Mexico will change their photo requirements for FM3 work permits. I have to renew mine soon and I guess I'll take a grim reaper picture :-|

H&R Block has offered to prepare his tax returns free for life Nice tie in. Someone mentioned set for life. It depends on how he wants to live his life. Conservative investments on say $1,750,000 (after taxes) would be in the $50,000 to $60,000 range. Not a lot by California standards. He would have to either increase some risk or dig into the principle. He certainly doesn't have to worry.

I think the firing was wrong. He deserved to finish out the contract. I really do hope that race did not play into the decision, just ND's growing impatience with their program. My son just received a beautiful certificate signed by Willingham, congratulating my son on earning Eagle Scout. Willingham seemed like a class act and a postive for the University. I expect him to be gobled up by a Div 1 program before the New Year.

Jars of Clay during there Flood Tour was one of my all time favorite concerts. I caught them at the Rosemont Theater. As far as taking Christian songs and turning them mainstreams, there are more than most people think. Songs like "Have I Told You Lately" had a big Christian feel when Van Morrison sang it, less so when Rod Stewart covered it. Was it a Christian song or secular when Stewart recorded it? I also wonder why we don't differentiate other topics like we do religion. We don't call some bands "Love Bands" or "Drug Bands" or any other topics.

200 games at QB is remarkable. Not only the luck, pain tolerance, and conditioning but the talent to have a team *want* to to start 200 games.

There should be and maybe there is, room for history making, inspirational, stories like this.

As we spend more and more resources in Iraq, the terrorists have freer reign in other parts of the world. History will view this as a mistake. An honest mistake, but a mistake never the less.

Ruminations for November 30, 2004 -=++=- Lunar eclipses must be rough on werewolves. One minute you're making a macho attack on a beautiful co-ed, the next you're a bald, naked CPA in the back of a police car. (Jerry L. Embry)

Possibly, but I doubt Jeopardy would risk it. They are still going strong, I would be more suspicious of some newer or dying show.

Anyone want to bet the streak of minority hires stops here? Introducing the new head of Homeland Security Mr. Harsha Puntegunta!

I acknowledge that my concerns regarding human reproduction and the resulting cells are largly a result of theological beliefs. For many issues I can seperate the "I believe this and you believe that" and keep that out of public policy. I have read several scholarly works on the subject and understand the safeguards that would be in place. However, at some level, when an egg and sperm are connected, I believe that process to be special and even sacred, even when outside the womb. I know that scientific debate would crush my intellectual argument, but it won't crush my belief. But we know what a conservative I am, so this just fits right in. :-)

I have to agree with SS on this. The Hunt for 5th Starter part IV stars Sho if we do not sign a FA or someone steps way up in ST

No matter what happens, this was another step forward and 1/2 step back losing Olivo. Seems like we can never just take one step forward. I would like to see a veteran catcher in the mix. It may be a luxury we cannot afford,
