Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Astros.com link I've become a huge Clemens fan. I really really wish he grew up on the southside and wanted to finish his career as a White Sox.

LMAO, whiping tears from my eyes. That was a f***ing beautiful thread. Go 'stros

I'm shocked that anyone could blame Dusty Baker. With all the rings he won with the Giants he certainly knows his stuff. And before some digs up a really really old thread. I once complained that the Cubs got Dusty and we kept Manuel. Then I complained that the Cubs got Dusty and we got Ozzie. (although I liked the hire, I didn't like the symbolism) I was wrong about Dusty. He truely belongs on the Northside. Anyone see a shot if Sosa in the on deck circle as the game ended? That must have been priceless. I will bet a weeks salary he had a corked bat with him.

Couldn't a case also be made that the French and Russians were in a better position to knkow what technology and weapons systems Sadaam had? Perhaps that is why they couldn't support a war based in part on their potential threat to the US? This hasn't been raised before. If Ibeek (made up country) was targeting Russia, and Russia wanted us to commit billions of dollars and thousands of troops, would we be quick to come to their aid? Even before our Iraq war?

Doesn't your work culture also contribute? How many liberals are in your unit? How many stay liberals more than a few months? It doesn't take long for most servicemen to vote GOP. Not that there is anything wrong with that, just pointing out industry leanings.

One trend that helps keep jobs in the US is increasingly demanding consumers. When you want a custom configured whatzit in two days there is no time to get it from China. We have to continue to dominate in technology. I forget now which Congressman from downstate Illinois is head of the Small Business Committee but in the short run he's trying to get the large multinationals to use US based suppliers for some of their overseas needs and charge it to advertising. Example: Motorola builds a plant in China. They were buying machine tools from a shop in Des Moines. Obviously the shop in Des Moines would have an impossible time being competitive even before transportation is factored in. Now if Motorola could be convinced that a big advertisment in the Des Moines Register about how Joe's Machine Shop won a $2,500,000 contract with Moto-China to supply machine tools would increase all their business, it could be a win-win. Nuke, mentioned controlling health care costs. I know more and more Republican business owners who see their health care costs and wonder if a single payer system wouldn't help them to compete. It's tough for the small business with 8 ot 10 employees to offer decent benefits at decent prices. Police need to be here. I was joking before but I just thought of this, we are already training 100,000 Iraqi's to be soldiers in their country, couldn't we continue to offer command and control plus weapons and let them bleed? In a way isn't that outsourcing cheaper workers?

Nah, once Bush trots out BinLaden whose been staying at a secret bunker in the White House, he'll win. As I've been looking over my list of issues and my Bush lawn sign and Kerry bumper sticker, I think we aren't going to be much better ot worse off if either candidate wins. Like always a couple issues get better (no matter what side you are on) and a couple issues get worse. Plus I knew 3 1/2 years ago that Bush would carry my state and whomever his opponents is will carry my precint, city, and county. My vote means something only to me. And that is important enough.

One killed jounalistic integrity with a knife, the other killed it with a gun. You want to argue shades of wrong, ok. Or are we debating two different things? Could we agree on this: CBS's lies were worse because of the wider arena and audience. Fox's lies were worse because they published stuff they 100% knew to be lies.

I was thinking about the same thing with soldiers. Why send people from the US around the world when we could hire cheaper in those countries and they already know the areas, terrain, etc. The challenge is avoiding widespread unemployment in this country. Intersting that we don't mind high paying programming jobs moving off shore and fight to keep out illegal migrant workers from Mexico. We are protecting $5.15 temporary labor jobs and encouraging $50,000 jobs over seas. I guess the programmers can pick tomatoes for three months a year and support their families. It is a concern. Nuke is correct, we have a thirst for cheap products. I have helped many companies relocate and outsource off shore and see first hand that many are just trying to survive. We are turning into a service economy. This is a serious issue and we need to develop ways to compete on a global basis or we lose.

Wow. Making up news is better than getting fooled by lies?? That's the kind of journalism that conservatives are fighting for?? A free press does more to protect our freedoms everyday than all the politicians combined. Rooting out corruption, and shining daylight into the tiny backcorners of our government is the best disinfectant. What CBS and Fox did was shake the foundation of journalism and is wrong. When the public starts defending acts like this we are all in trouble. As long as they are lies aginst the other side, it's ok? Wow. Have you ever noticed that when a coup starts the first targets are always the tv and radio stations? Do you think it's because they want to make certain reruns of Dallas aren't preempted? During the TET Offensive, the north's biggest push and critical part of their strategy was to get ahold of the tv stations. They felt they could start a wave of protest and atacks against the Americans by controlling the minds. How anyone can defend a journalist whose actions help to undermine the very foundation that a free press is based on is beside me. I'll assume t is blind loyalty to a political party, but wow. I'll accept a debate about bias in the media, but will never accept a position that lying is OK. That is so wrong I cannot even understand for a second that someone could think it is right.

As we learned 4 years ago, it isn't about how many but where. Bush could again lose the popular vote and retain the office.

The issue with China is they have a billion people to build $200 tvs and cheap textiles but only 100,000,000 to buy high end US products like computers and diet Coke. THe vast majority of their citizens are living below any reasonable international poverty standard. In the short term, US companies are making some profits by selling manufacturing technology to the Chinese. The concern is the mid term balance of trade which doesn't look good for our manufactuing sectors.

Tomorrow, We Are The Biggest Cleveland Fans
Texsox replied to 3E8's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I judge this by what is best for the Sox. Minny winning the WS would be the best for us. Over inflated egos, over inflated salary expectations, problems in the club house. Success kills. Go Twins! Except if they play Houston . . . -
ESPN Link The Twins are trying to avoid the Yankees on the road to start the playoffs and have their extra inning game suspended so the field could be made ready for the Gophers. LMAO
-
Houston's up late against the Rockies. It will still come down to tomorrows game but at least Houston controls their fate. From here on f they win, they are in. I'm pulling for an Astros - Red Sox series.
-
They need a clamer guy over there, think they have Jerry Manuels number?
-
Ahhhhh. too bad. Maybe next year

It is hard to believe how ignorant people are/were about introducing non-native species.
-
And to do it under the pressure of the playoff race . . .

Same reason Dan Rather was news. While we can debate bias and slanting the absolute bottom line is we demand accuracy and truth. Even the most ardent defender of the journalistic community will not defend innaccuraties and falsified reports. Being fooled is one thing, out and out lying is another. It happened to the NY Times last year and one made up report even won a Purlitzer Prize. Nothing will destroy journalism if it is not credible.

One good season. He was barely .500 for his carrer and couldn't hit his weight His post season record wasn't much either.
