  1. I wonder if Oakland had a hunch that he wasn't sound. I'm hoping some R&R will help and he can have a strong couple of weeks in October.
  2. If you are going to rip the guy at least get his name right. We expect E-Lo, Bart, and Mark to win games with their arms, after that it's up to our bats, like last night, to come through. If Neal can get us 5-6 maybe 7 innings and we're in position to win he has done as well as can be expected. You win some on the mound and some at the box. Lighten up I've seen worse from better pitchers this season.
  3. You are correct, the best way to use this pen is to keep them on the bench.
  4. Can anyone pitch an inning or two around here? How big of a lead do we need to have a chance in the 9th? Is any lead safe? In a 7 inning game we are unbeatable. Everytime I see JM taking the ball from a starter I think, wake up the bleachers here they come. First we walk a couple guys than the hits start then it's all over. Let's hope someone steps up in the next week or two to at least put a small doubt in the opponent that they might lose. As it is now, if I was playing the Sox, I would feel like I had a chance all the way to the 9th.

  6. Let's think ahead. How about one for clinching the division ALCS WS

    How sad!

This highlights the danger of drugs. The pitbull was probably freebasing and set himself on fire . . . They will never catch the creep.
  8. I saw the pitch, he was throwing at him but it was a powderpuff fast ball. If would land an old fart like me in the hospital but wouldn't have slowed down a pro player
  9. Not necessarily how about . . . "Good bye Jerry Manuel" or

Virgo which somehow fit into the masturbate to avoid prostate cancer . . .
  11. I use to just highlight a section of text, move my mouse to the drop down menu, select green and viola' magic. Now whenever I select the drop down menu my highlighted text stops being highlighted and all I get is I'm using Netscape 7.02
  12. Big f***ing deal, who needs you? Like anyone around here cares who the hell you are. Just kidding. I figure in case you get "home sick" for the other boards you could re-read this. Welcome!
  13. I'm glad you brought up run support. Here is how much each of those pitchers receive in terms of RS... Roy Halladay = 6.89 RPG (3rd in AL) Pedro Martinez = 5.74 RPG (17th in AL) Jamie Moyer = 5.28 RPG (24th in AL) Mark Mulder = 4.82 RPG (30th in AL) Esteban Loaiza = 4.70 RPG (32nd in AL) So, Esteban has the #1 ERA in the AL (2.24), is tied for 2nd in wins (15), T-3rd in WHIP (1.06), T-4th in batting average against (.231), 3rd in OPS against (.606), and 1st in quality starts (20). In-f***ing-credible. I also noticed that in the same number of starts Mulder has 9 complete games but has pitched only 13 more innings. E-Lo has been amazing for us this year. I still hold my breath every outing, praying the bloom won't fall off. Being a long term Sox fan, I learned long ago not to believe too quickly.
  14. I like that sequence. Far better than KC, Oak, NYY, etc.

    Bartolo Colon

He wouldn't be the first athlete to say that. He probably wouldn't say hate but he could say he is home sick or mention his child hooddream of pitching for whomever . . .
  16. During the 90s Frank was the only player that would stop me in my tracks to watch him bat. That was as close to perfection in form as I've ever seen. I think his lack of time on defense will be a factor in not voting for him. Still his offensive numbers should be enough. The other factor that should help is his warm fuzzy image, gift of gab, and love fest with the media. That last part should be in green but I can't get it to work
  17. Hmmm . . . misty, water colored memories . . .
  18. I didn't look at the schedule to figurte out how many starts Neal can expect. I'm hoping we make a commitment and give him 3-4 as a minimum. If he can keep us in those games with a chance to win he's a success under this situation. In other words, he doesn't have to carry the weight of the game on his shoulders and I pray he doesn't think so. We have pitchers that are expected to do that; E-Lo, Mark, and Bart. The offense should be expected to carry Neal. All we should expect him to do is keep us in the game by pitching 6-7 innings and avoiding big numbers. Everyone has a role.
  19. 1) Who will win the series (CHW/ANA/Split) (2 points)? Split 2) Will Frank Thomas have at least 4 hits (Y/N) (2 points)? Yes 3) How many errors will the Sox make (4 points)? 2 4) Who will lead the Sox in extra-base hits (4 points)? Jose Valentin 5) How many homeruns will the Sox hit (5 points)? 5 6) How many baserunners will Mark Buehrle allow (5 points)? 5 7) How many games ahead or behind will the Sox be in the AL Central (4 points)? Even 8) Will Neal Cotts get a win (Y/N) (2 points)? No 9) Will the Sox have any ten-hit games (Y/N)(2 points)? Yes 10) Will Gary Glover allow an earned run (Y/N) (2 points)? Yes TIEBREAKER: Pitch count for Neal Cotts 90

I ran cross country in HS and college and weight was never a problem. 75 to 100+ mile weeks keep the weight off. At this point in the cross country season (fall sport in Illinois) you should be building a base with long slow distance. Mix in a little walking to increase the miles and you will be good.

    Board Behavior

I just visited the Royal and Twin boards and am embarrased to be a Sox fan. One guy (sox1sox1) trolled through the KC site with such thought provoking topics as Royals stink like poo from my Crack. I am so glad we don't get that sort of trolling here.
  22. I still think Houston will win the division and the central will not produce a wild card so post season thoughts of cub fans are retarded. It sure is fun following the Astros a little bit. Local coverage and they are in the cubs division.
  23. Nice of the A's to not spoil your big day.
  24. Stolen bases are not nearly as important as they use to be. Now you stay over at first and hope the next guy sends it 100 feet into the stands. Catchers who can hit and keep the ball in front of them are in demand. I like the guy, but overall the potential loss will be what confidence our starters have in Sandy or his back up. If they like how the games are being called, we may be better off. If we start seeing pitches waved off it may be a sign of a problem. Bottom line worry about how our pitchers adjust to Sandy not stolen bases.

    Tigers

8/9/2003 The Tigers now have no chance for a winning season. 83 loses and mounting. Their magic number is now 19. :puke
