  1. Agreed. Now imagine if twice as many teams need DHs.
  2. If universal DH hits he has much higher trade value. Hang on to his rights until that gets settled.
  3. I agree. But a hall of fame guy boss? That must be hall of fame level calling out. Lol
  4. Eventually players run out of teams willing to give a player a chance. Teams aren't stupid, scouts and managers saw the raw talent, gave him a try for a while and moved on. He's a footnote in Sox history. Giving him someone else to blame may also be a problem. Didn't one of his former managers state he could never take responsibility for his own actions? 9 His early mega success may have been his downfall. In golf it's guys winning a major, are cashing in on opportunities and think they should be top 10 every week.
  5. Does Soxtalk lose a year of control by allowing too many posts? He could hit free agency sooner.
  6. Who plays in the game is a manager's decision. Seems easy enough to announce he's not playing. I'm shocked more victims haven't come forward and I'm willing to withhold judgement until a full investigation, I just wouldn't be willing to see him play.
  7. Potentially much bigger if you are a star in a revenue positive sport. But for 99% of the kids, it won’t be much if anything.

The more I'm reading about the building collapse in Miami the more I don't want to enter a multistory building again.

25 to 1 in poll reported same or better finances. Perhaps the idea is tangible spending continues at an elevated rate and restaurants and event spending stays depressed. I’ve been at the point in life that there just aren’t any things I really want. It’s more replacing things that have worn out. When anyone asks about gifts for me, I always suggest events, classes, shows, etc. so my spending will probably return much the same. That is if my wife ever wants to be indoors with other people.
  10. We were driving though a tiny Missouri town which had its July 4th decorations up at their little league fields with a game going on. A flood of memories followed. Craziest play I was ever involved in. I was 10 and playing in the All Star game after the parade. For some reason I was playing 3rd. I never played 3rd before. Runner on first, a line drive comes at my head and more for self defense than anything else I raised the borrowed glove ( I only had a catcher's mit with me) and somehow hung on. The home plate umpire signals out. The hit was so fast the coaches were yelling where's the ball? Confusion is starting. I see the batter running to first and throw to first. The 1st baseman tags the base and the ump signals out. Meanwhile the 1st baseman sees the runner heading to 3rd and throws it back to me and I tag the baserunner. The 3rd base ump (big game 4 umps) signals out. Triple Play!!!! People are cheering. I'm getting pats on the back. We run into the dugout. The other team grabs their gloves and starts running onto the field. Time out!! Neither scorekeeper could figure out how to score it. Gradually what really happened became clear. A few minutes later we were back in our positions with 2 outs. Lol
  11. The closer we get to college athletes making a nice living the happier I am for them, it just seems fair, and the less likely I am to be watching college sports. If I want to see pros, I'll watch pros.
  12. Yikes. They aren't use to that.

Great baseball so far. Plus I'm not watching the Sox.
  14. No fan ever.
  15. I'm a big fan of service time manipulation. It gives the teams that work the system longer control of their draftees and allows the MiLB teams to have some stars on their roster. Said no fan ever.

My son in law's family are big UT baseball supporters. They gambled and made plans to be there starting Friday. So Thursday will decide if they get on the plane or stay home.

  19. The Kennebucks are cool. We played spot the secret service when we went through. Everyone in town knew "they" were at home.

I wonder one of the long term affects will be people reevaluating their budgets and continuing the reduced spending.

It’s going to sound implausible but despite being diagnosed with cancer and having hernia surgery I’m feeling better than I have in decades. My hobbies have served me well during the pandemic, especially improve. The cornerstone of all improve is Yes . . . and. So yes there is a global pandemic, and we can develop new, healthier lifestyles. It is a great way of life for me. Income dipped slightly with live performances cancelled, but expenses fell much further. I’m fortunate in having excellent health insurance. Overall I feel like I’m in a better place now that pre pandemic.

  23. First major stop will be the Katy Bike Trail in St. Charles, Mo. for a week or so. Then following the Mississippi north to the headwaters in Itasca State Park. From there east into the U.P. and boondocking in some national forest land for a couple weeks along the big lake they call it Gitche Gumee. Then over to St. Germain Wisconsin to see family before dropping down to Illinois to see more family. Not certain yet if we’ll just head home or maybe slide west to Colorado for a week or so. I kept hearing how difficult it has been to find campsites this summer but we haven’t been having any troubles.
