I'm more interested that each death is accounted for, even if that takes two columns instead of one. Reporting that 3,000 people are confirmed dead (via tests) and 1,500 are presumed dead is better than one state reporting a number one way and a different state making up their own rules. I think your concern is more how the data is being used than how it is calculated. Why the fuss over wanting one number when it is an estimate that will only be confirmed years down the road. The under-reporting is a bigger issue IMHO. Your assertion that the world is all doing it the same way isn't accurate. There still differences in how some states report the deaths compared to others. If each state is doing it differently here in the US is it really accurate to say that every country does it the same way? https://www.webmd.com/lung/news/20200417/how-accurate-are-coronavirus-death-counts It seems like having the same procedure for each state and even each country just makes sense. I'm not really hung up on which method they use. Use the one we've assumed everyone was using, use the one the WH recommends, I don't care. Just have every death noted and every state reporting using the same guidelines.

I disagree. People go to games to watch the players not the owners. Players are on the field and who the fans are watching. But here to you for going to games because you like the owners.
-
I just don't see how the owners win by smearing the players. What's the difference between I'm staying away because of the owner and I'm staying away because of the players?
-
But if the fans blame the players they will go to games? To cheer on the owners and boo the players?

I posted a link about three hours ago to just that. A desire to get ahead of the pending mental health crisis. Good morning there on the west coast.

I'm not convinced the media would do that. In fact I'm certain they would not. And as you point out we're already working with estimates right now, we won't know the actual total for years. So how official is the official count? I believe we can learn from past pandemics and improve our responses and reporting down the road. I believe a "that's the way we've always done it" attitude can be dangerous. Technology has gotten a bit better since the Spanish Flu and other pandemics. But I've never been accused of being a conservative and wanting to keep things like they have always been.

What would the difference be if there wasn't a season and the fans blamed the players versus the owners?

There are always unseen consequences. Not everything the White House desires works out like they want it to.

Fear, isolation, loneliness, depression, social distancing, stress all may contribute to deaths. You don't have to be infected to be affected.
-
This isn't a normal situation. I believe it requires a more detailed analysis. I've seen stats reported as "X related deaths" where X stands for the item being discussed (poverty, alcohol, flu, smoking, etc). It could also lead to more deaths being counted because it would allow doctors to place those deaths on the fence as "related" instead of presuming they should not count it as a Covid death.
-
They also had an agreement in January but were willing to renegotiate. As things change I can see further changes.
-
One aspect is currently they are "presuming". Immediately we have a chance of inaccurate data being used. Those should, at a minimum, be split off. If you have the virus, but would have survived, but died from an unrelated event, is that really a virus death? So now we have a possible third column, virus influenced death. That could be from the obviously not a factor like dying from car accident while infected or probably influenced like dying of pneumonia while infected. I think we can do better than having thousands of doctors all presuming.

A MLB, NBA, NFL, or NHL team is the most solid investment you could make. I'm not certain the same rules apply. Investment Banks don't draft the top MBAs coming out of college and tell them they can only work here. Insurance companies don't have exclusive territories where no other insurance company can open shop. No one is limiting hotels to 30 in the country. It's an artificial arena that rarely exists anywhere else. So once we start allowing team owners that artificial arena, there needs to be artificial market rules to protect everyone else, including the fans and players. I'll agree that owners are too often unfairly maligned, given too much blame or credit, and their contribution should be respected.

There is value beyond the PR in an accurate consistent count.

We all know that. You do realize you are helping them. Your ranting makes you 100% complicit and you are an enemy of 'merica. You are trying to make Americans feel bad, to give up, to lose. You are our enemy. But your communist propaganda won't work here. We're strong. We're resilient more than you and your comrades give us credit for. We've banded together and are united in not getting professional hair cuts and all your commie whining and trying to convince us it's wrong has no affect. We're letting our freedom flags fly proudly from sea to shining sea!!

Act Now To Get Ahead Of A Mental Health Crisis, Specialists Advise U.S. https://flip.it/A10v5E

Yep, had one scheduled then some dude went and stabbed one employee and shot and killed another as they were trying to reopen the shop. Now I'm waiting for Sports Clips to have less than a three hour wait. I'll probably check again with them in a few weeks. Thanks for asking! I enjoy G7's daily status report about his unsanitary hair, how he can't find a mask, then can't find a mask that fits his big head and glasses, then can't get it tied. I would love to work Improv with him, he is amazing at offering people stuff they can work with. This thread is filled with stressful news from around the world then boom, G7 jumps in with statements like we're going to be one of the poorest countries on the planet by the end of the year, or 60% unemployment and starvation, or he's going to catch the virus in a germy airport bathroom.
-
Well bless your heart thinking of everybody that way. I'm wondering why you would make such a suggestion when you already know about things like unemployment insurance, WIC, SNAP, and other government programs to keep people fed.

G7 circa 1941 "G7 we have to join the Army. They just bombed is, we have to fight!" "But can I get a haircut? I'm not joining if I can't a haircut. No beach invasions with long hair" G7 Circa 1961 "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" "But can I get a haircut? I'm not doing anything if I can't a haircut."
-
Agreed. G7 will catch it. That's just the way it is. Why wait? The purpose of life is to get a disease. To spread it to others. The purpose of life is to get a haircut (the wait at my local Sports Clips is over four hours right now and my usual place didn't open after a shooting and stabbing). That's the secret to a happy life! Getting sick! The purpose to life CAN be found in an airport bathroom, just ask around about which bathroom. I agree that's exactly where you will catch "it". Let us know how it turns out for you.

https://news4sanantonio.com/news/local/air-force-thunderbirds-to-fly-over-san-antonio-austin-on-may-12 I'm looking forward to this. Turns out we will be about a half mile from their route. I should have a great view from my back yard.

Y'all have G7 hogtied in some closet? Git the little feller with the big hat out here to ask his own question. But gee whiz that G7 guy has himself a vision, he is seeing the big picture. The poooltical lannndscape is fixin' to change. There will be some winners and losers. Yep, some of these local folks may ride that wave to the penthouse, others to the outhouse. I'm waiting for the first Vote for Joe face masks to come out; that will be a humdinger of political memorabilia.

Tell 775 that's what Tex means to tell y'all. Tex believes that folks that are planning on spending a month or more on that island paradise may opt to spend a couple weeks in self quarantine. Tex is also thinking that there are worse places to spend two weeks naked eating room service. All you need is to get yourself a little Texas tornado if y'all get my drift.

A close friend took her husband from a facility because of the risk and hired a part time nurse. His dementia causes him to be violent at times but so far it's been working out.
