  1. Agreed. And being a lifelong Chicago fan that's saying something. I watched some pretty bad teams in every major sport.
  2. And what are they going to ask the next manager to do? These guys are playing on a team that will lose 120 games. Fans and the front office wanted this year's team to be even worse by trading anyone that could play for players who hopefully will be ready in two years. It didn't happen, but it's easy to see what that did to moral. So sure, toss in an interim. There is plenty of time left in the season for us to want him gone during the off season. Maybe they will get hot and win 20 the rest of the season. We'll never know but I really wish JR told him he was gone at the end of the season and for Getz to start the search for the next guy. Don't waste any more time on this season.
  3. We don't want to rush him like others.
  4. This. Somehow keep losing but have a couple guys increase their trade value.
  5. "Pedro, I spoke with one of my advisors, Tony, and he suggested "private medical issue" but we could also find you a front office spot with a press release explaining we appreciate what you've done . . ." Or "Pedro we tried to get you packaged with Beni into a recent deal but Russia said no." I hope they are starting their search now and it goes beyond JR's phone book.
  6. On an interim basis? The Sox managerial gig isn't a stepping stone, it's a career ender.
  7. Dump him in the off season if there is an experienced manager available. Plus these players will make any manager look bad. Why would someone want to step into this situation? Loyalty to JR? They have no other choices? Any interim is going to be as bad or worse. But hey, if it will sell some tickets or somehow help player development go for it.
  8. Come on JR, enough is enough. I demand an in season meaningless gesture that won't change the fact these players suck. Fucking lie to me that the manager is the difference. It's being working for decades, why change now? Any competent manager could have this team at thirty wins right now.
  9. Maybe he's doing exactly what the front office wants him to do. Play these players in this situation. They realize firing him because they are losing with the worst collection of players in modern baseball history would be a slap in the face to the fans that know the talent is lacking? "Hey, these guys are really good but we had a bad manager. We fixed that so come buy some tickets and attend the games."
  10. I want a different coach each time they lose ten in a row. Jerry needs to hire managers on a month to month basis.
  11. I'm certain the market will be huge for a guy that can get you through July.
  12. How many games are left? I can't wait for the off season.
  13. If the Sox (had it to give) had given up that much to acquire Crochet with his injury history every fan here would be outraged. Except my buddy @greg775 who always finds the hidden rational of a contrary point of view. If if if Crochet can pull off pitching the rest of the season without a huge drop off then his value might come close to the haul. I don't think anyone in their right mind last week would give up that much for a guy with his history. That's the number one reason he wasn't moved. The rest just added to the problem.
  14. Let's see, the US, Slovenia, Turkey, Norway, Germany, Russia, and Poland pulled off a seven country trade and Getz couldn't unload a guy have an All-Star season?
  15. I want JR and TLR to co manage. "All right, Tony has fallen asleep and JR is taking over." Or a series of turn back the clock weeks. If they are alive, have them manage a week. Let's make this a real s%*# show. Actually I'm not convinced an inexperienced interim makes sense. I guess it might sell some tickets and make some fans believe JR is admitting a mistake and fixing it. But I question if the interim would be the person to lead a team that has an actual chance to succeed.
  16. A different blue diamond
  17. I think this year buying teams valued their prospects more than most years. I didn't see any players moving that I would have taken for Crochet. Like many people here I'm expecting him to fade hard and possibly spend some time on the IR. What that does to his value will depend on exactly what happens. My other guess is all the reasons we wanted him moved are the reasons other GMs weren't lined up giving away top 100 guys. Unfortunately the only person that really matters in judging him is JR. Equally unfortunate is we don't know what criteria JR had for him. Maybe JR have him a warning, maybe he gave him a bonus.
  18. At this point reporters could make up any negative story and I would believe it. And judging by posts here, I'm not the only one. Isn't that about the worst situation any business can find themselves in?
  19. Then he's been afraid of profits. The higher the gains the higher the taxes. He could just sell for half of what it's worth to avoid the taxes on huge profits. And just like the full amount isn't all his, the total tax burden isn't all his.
  20. That billion dollar profit doesn't grab his attention?
  21. Would you have taken Norby and Stowers for Crochet if offered?
  22. And who added big giving up top 100 prospects?
  23. So if you're a rival GM and Eloy had a healthy stretch would you forget his history? How excited would you be if we traded for him after a "healthy streak"? I think every GM is at least as savvy as the average poster here.
  24. C As always we're at the wrong end of a market trend. We're sellers in a buyer's market. Not accepting current market conditions for the little talent he was trying to sell, was probably a win. I didn't see any top 100 prospects traded. I wouldn't have accepted less for either player. Is he the GM who could convince a rival GM to pay over current market for a player? I doubt it.
  25. So you think he asked for too much and wouldn't accept less? Asked for too little? Forgot to answer the phone? Another team calls, you look at their prospects, offer a trade. I agree he's probably bad at his job like every GM that JR has hired. There isn't secret Jedi mind tricks that cause GMs to overpay. The Sox are negotiating from a position of extreme weakness. Everyone knows they need to get rid of every decent player and try to build. As a rival GM there just isn't a need to offer the Sox a stellar or even equal return.
