I do appreciate the home town point of view. After getting a stay diet of the other teams announcing, I'll take any Sox announcer. Not for the most kick ass color work, it's the game threads by a mile.

The hardest thing to sell is a bad version of a product that others have readily available. I would argue is even hard to sell Chicago to players from outside the Midwest. Those that want year round warm temps are getting south. NY and LA have better side money potential and equally good night life. The AL Central is a boring division without a marque. State taxes are high and that's half your games. Selling time shares in Branson may be easier.

As I've said, the Sox have to overpay, perhaps considerably, to land a free agent. Now that may be a couple million to a low of medium FA, that could be twenty or forty million to a premier free agent. No wonder we don't land them. I don't think it's a worse version. It was a family decision. However *they* want to spin it doesn't really matter. No one disputes it because it doesn't matter and allows everyone to save face. And thank you for that example. Jake is a perfect example of a player on a decline who lands on our roster. Former this and that. I think we agree it's a tough sell as the Sox GM. Players aren't exactly lining up hoping for a call from Getz. And it won't any easier until there are huge changes, starting in the chairman's office.

I'm some organizations they actually make offers that are reasonable and actually acceptable to the player. So it probably won't happen.

She also made some great financial transactions, she consulted with foreign governments, and she flew a US flag upside down. It actually doesn't matter why, it's another example of the Sox needing to over offer to obtain a player. Anyone ever waive a no trade clause to come to the Sox?

Across the league? Or LA versus Pittsburgh? There are lots of variables. The Sox are capable of offering a contract to a middle of the rotation guy. They will likely have to overpay unless the guy likes pitching to small crowds and no run support. He will probably be coming off an injury and be willing to accept a prove it contract.

Never, or not in the next twenty years? I see a day where two players are trash talking and one plucks down $20,000 on his team and the other guy ups it to $30,000. All carefully orchestrated and allowed by MLB. In may be a couple decades away but that is the trajectory. It's what the fans want.
