Yesterday I was thinking this thread would be dead by morning. Now I am humming "Don't Stop Believing". How about once around A-Z just song lyrics?

Thanks everyone. From my early research travel in the pre Eisenhower Highway days was a challenge. Basically you would be connecting local and state maps to find a route. I am looking into the history of AAA. My grandparents were members and I remember the big trip planner maps they would use when I was young. Every adventure started with a trip to AAA. (with my family it should have ended at AA)

It parallels a sporting match. Cheer for your team, ignore or boo the other team. Ties instead of face painting is about the only difference.

Spring training is a better way, or Soxfest

I joined the forum, awaiting a mod's approval. Damn, I hope that site isn't as slow as Soxtalk.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 21, 2015 -> 06:51 AM) you and caulfield12 do have a point and i will not dispute it. i come from a family of vets, from my grandfather in WW2 to uncles and immediate family. there is no denying what he did to serve his county. yeah every once in a while we will have to put up with self indulgent people like him. but i will refuse to label all of them b/c if this person. no matter what, 4 tours and the most kills. save many lives. Which is exactly my point. I apply it to both good and bad examples. I also do not believe that every Vet should be given a heroes position because others earned it. It works both ways in my mind. It also lessens what the truly "heroic" have done if serving anytime anywhere and doing anything means you are a hero.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 21, 2015 -> 09:50 AM) I belong to this message board http://www.aaroads.com/forum/ and if you join and post your question there somebody there will most definitely have it. EDIT: The interstate highway system didn't exist until 1956, so there were no interstates in 1950, though some freeways currently designated as interstates may have been built pre-1950. Thank you. While I knew the interstate act in '56 were a major beginning point, I hadn't considered that the word was coined in 1956. That may have been a major stumbling block. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 21, 2015 -> 10:34 AM) Have you tried Ebay? I know I have found some amazing historical items like this from my hometown all of the way back to the 19th century. It is hit or miss, but that might be a place to look. I did. But my problem may again have been wrong search terms. I noticed that as I was searching it was all state maps that showed up. I doggedly kept looking for a national map. But that may not have been available until post 1956. Interesting.

I need three historic maps from 1950 (Pre-Eisenhower Highway). 1949 may also work, but 1950 would be best. US Interstate Highways Texas Roads Pan American Highway in Mexico It seemed like such a simple request but I've been looking for a couple hours and I think I am blinded from the obvious.

He claimed the local cops received word from Washington that he was "too valuable" to be arrested and that he would receive post cards from cops thanking him for "cleaning up the streets". The dude sounds crazy. How does anyone produce a movie based on a book that is so filled with inaccuracies and libelous material? I am really starting to dislike our "every Vet is a heroic figure" and can't be criticized culture we currently have.

Lucky for y'all I remembered this topic

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 09:36 AM) This. I see that someone vandalized a billboard for the movie with the word "murderer." Our country has some stupid sheeple in it. Didn't he claim to have killed dozens of looters in New Orleans from the roof of the Superdome? He lost the lawsuit (his estate) that he liable Jesse Ventura in the book and in interviews. He also claimed to have executed two guys who tried to rob him at a gas station in Dallas. Those were his claims. Picking off snipers from the roof of the Superdome? Maybe that could be murder in our society. Killing two guys who may have been robbing him? Maybe.

Water weight is the worst. I always volunteer to carry food and extra water. Each meal lightens my load.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jan 17, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) 35 years ago my ex-wife and I had our first date on Valentines Day. I took her out to dinner. Less than a month later we were living together. Exactly 4 months later we got married. I proposed to my ex on April Fools Day, so that holiday is ruined for me.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 08:30 PM) But if you knew that was true, you'd put your enforcement right outside of that location, right? The state of Illinois can't do that because the states next door are enabling criminal activity within their borders. It would be like Wyoming police busting a shop in Colorado because too much pot was finding it's way there. You have to be breaking a law in that jurisdiction. Which why I am in favor of unified national laws regarding guns. Hitting state lines when travelling shouldn't cause people to break out a legal encyclopedia to be in compliance. This also includes sillier things like motorcycle helmet laws, etc.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 08:23 AM) Plus, he could spend some time in the booth, spelling Hawk or Farmer. And don't forget about hot dog vendor. He could do play by play and have one or more of his girlfriends provide "color".

You guys are finding the money, now figure out where all the volunteers and buildings come from. Who are you giving the money to and who are they responsible to?
-
By taking away the tax break to churches, you are increasing taxes on the people who attend church. People who attend the church would have to contribute more to keep the doors open, fund the various ministries, projects, community projects, etc. The party that does that loses a lot of voters in the process.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) The Sox do not owe Dunn anything. (unless there was some deferred money that I am unaware of) This. If anything his performance to contract ratio has the debt as Dunn owes the Sox. I like the clubhouse and off the field comparison to Thome. It just ends on the field.

I'm surprised that no one has stated the obvious. This allows him to easily take a position on the Sox coaching staff as roving minor league batting instructor until there is room on Robin's staff. Not only filling two roster positions as a OF/P but coaching as well. The future of baseball.

Convention moved up one month to July 2016.

Knowing that is really impossible. Three probably.

Phil Rogers argues for Buehrle to the Hall of Fame case building
Texsox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Would the hall be better as a Hall of Stats or a Hall of Fame? Serious question? Why does it exist? As a celebration of baseball, guys like Mark with sliding on the tarp during rain delays and pitching no hitters, winning a lot of games, over a long time, seems better than a statue of a guy who cheated, lied, etc with better stats. It seems to me there should be room for guys that made baseball a better sport by having played the game. You know the FAMEous.
