  1. Really SS, you don't believe the government used excessive force?
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) That's not unintended. He explicitly calls for them replacing union janitors. Which breaks the union, drives the adults out of jobs and lowers wages in general. Not sure how firing adults from decent-paying jobs in poor neighborhoods so that their kids could work the same jobs for less pay is some great plan to combat poverty. I am not certain that is what he intended to have happen. I believe he was advocating for a "take any job and learn to work for a living" philosophy.
  3. The best thing we can hope for with those guys is a return to their average pre-2011 production. It is easier for me to believe it is a one year problem and will improve than to think both of them dropped so fast to non MLB level production.
  4. BTW, the unintended consequence of Newt's plan is kids will be competing with adults for those jobs. With unemployment as high as it is, I'm not certain it is a proper step forward. I agree in principle, but probably not now.
  5. Seems like I have seen protestors being dragged away by cops since at least the mid 60s. Basically two cops grab them under their arms and carry them away.
  6. When a salesperson is justifying an increased price, something the customer can see is often the best reason. The salesperson does not need to give a reason for lowering a price.
  7. And for a great example just look at the undocumented workers who risk their lives coming over here to work at minimum wage, entry level jobs
  8. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 07:01 AM) No, clearly they should have enforced the laws right off the bat before things got to the point they are at now. By trying to coddle them because some politicians in charge sympathized with them they made things worse. Exactly, screw the first amendment and 200+ years of court rulings that almost always have sided with demonstartors when the government cracks down.
  9. If the problem with expansion is Kotsay is only hitting .270, wouldn't a few weaker pitchers allow his average to reach .290 or maybe even .300? problem solved!
  10. What little support I had for the Occupy folks has evaporated. Count me in the go away crowd.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 08:18 AM) I'll bet there are two things at play. First full season ticketholders have to be the least likely to cancel. Second, the full season people probably already get the biggest discounts. Great point. You're not as dumb as Balta says
  12. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) The above is bad writing, in my opinion. It certainly suggests that the plot had something to do with players that helped the White Sox win the World Series in 2005. And it may have in a very round about way.
  13. We really need to remove the humans from baseball and just rely on computers.
  14. Bad night for my team. They had no answer for an opponent with a huge O-line and three very costly penalties doomed them. But our 4-A team advanced with a big win.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 19, 2011 -> 07:47 AM) The timing of Paterno announcing he has a treatable form of lung cancer is very suspicious It would make sense that he was planning on announcing after the season, or perhaps on the eve of a championship game. It also explains why the moved the house into his wife's name. Even when the doctor says treatable, it has to shake you. I'm just guessing it isn't a lie or he managed to contract the cancer.
  16. San Antonio / McAllen is actually San Antonio or McAllen/ Northern Mexico markets. IMNSHO the Rio Grande valley (McAllen) in the summer could not support a baseball team. The winter Texans head back up north reducing the population by 1/3 and the migrant population heads north for jobs. San Antonio would be more interesting. They would pull Mexican tourists coming from Monterrey and Austonites in addition to the local S.A. market.
  17. The more I think about it the more I agree with your post regarding investigating.
  18. If McQueary did talk to campus police there may be a slim chance that any records were trashed as part of a coverup. However, my opinion is he never went to police.
  19. I'm not certain that is the ideal world. Is it really ideal if we treat repeat offenders with lengthy criminal histories the same as grandma with a lifetime of service and good deeds the same? It seems like we are going to err on one side or the other and perhaps we should err on the side of victims, but it doesn't seem fair.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2011 -> 08:04 PM) Well clearly there is a second victim mentioned in the article. Cousin of the first victim. I am reserving judgement on this one. The victims offered four others who would collaborate and none did.
  21. You are so correct. And this is a top 120 Division 1 program that has actually been investigated by the NCAA.
  22. f*** I had to vote for the conservative. Damn you Heads. But what ever left leaning I had from choice A was over weighed by Thomas.
  23. The challenge is this is one of the only times a young child is both powerless and all powerful. Look at the Syracuse allegations. The names that the victims offered to collaborate didn't. So you have two relatives accusing the coach, but that's it. So learning from history do we look at Sandusky's case, which seems so clear and say, protect the kids, lock up this monster. or look at Duke lacrosse and say, hold on, don't rush to judgement?
  24. I know the first thing I would say is look at my record, I've never been in trouble, never even a hint of scandal. Look of my community involvement, etc. The same as if the suspect was a three time offender, in and out of jail, etc.
