  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 11:56 AM) And that's the way it should be. But you can't really be saying that some do not deserve protecting?!
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) If someone was shouting "look! this woman accusing Cain of SH filed for bankruptcy in 1998....GOLD DIGGER!" then i'd agree with you. But as i've explained numerous times, look at the whole picture. IMO she's full of s*** and looking to cash in on the opportunity here. Are you also suggesting that Cain didn't do anything wrong?
  3. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 08:21 PM) haha, what a terrible prediction from texsox
  4. So this morning grades came out and I lost seven players, including three starters. We were playing the first round of a tournament. It was the worst display of sportsmanship I have ever witnessed at a kid's game. The fans of the other team, parents and coaches, were yelling obscenities, accusing the ref of accepting a bribe, etc. Six of their kids received yellow cards and one red card for swearing at the ref or complaining about calls. Four of the parents were removed from the field. We were losing 0-1 with about six minutes to play. I look up from 3/4 of a field away my keeper was getting a yellow card. I ask why and learn he was sitting down. OK, I forgot to tell him about that one. My second and third string keepers were suspended for academics, so I had no one. I grabbed a kid thinking it's only for one play. As he comes to the sideline I hear him say loudly, what the f***?! Well, now he's going to be sitting longer. The ref comes over a minute or two later and reminds me that I can bring him back in. I explain he used foul language on the sideline and would not be returning. Thirty seconds later my striker is down in the box and we're getting a penalty kick. 1-1! The obscenities really begin to fly. When we go to penalty kicks I put my keeper back in the game. The other coach starts screaming that he had gotten a red card and can't be playing. The referee explains it was only a yellow card. The coach screams, no it wasn't or he would have been back in the game. I am about 10 yeards away and say, "I don't tolerate yellow cards from my players so I sat him for the rest of the game to teach him a lesson about sportsmanship" and walked back to my kids. The other parents started mocking me. We won the toss and elected to go first. 3-3 in the first set. Then we went to sudden death. We made the first one, they hit it right at my keeper. Victory. We lined up and waited, and waited, and watched them get on the bus. I spoke with the team about being winners 168 hours a week. Called the other team losers. And started planning for the game(s) Saturday.
  5. Just to be clear. If someone tells you they saw a crime, it becomes your responsibility to make certain it is investigated.
  6. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 07:10 AM) I just heard news of the firing this morning. Without question, it absolutely had to be done. I'm doing face palms over some of the posts on here arguing the contrary. He was the head of the program under which this occurred, and in many ways, "the most powerful man on campus." Talk about a "lack of institutional control": When something this heinous happens, those at the top bear ultimate accountablity and must pay with their jobs. His contract was up anyway, and he "retired" just hours before. BFD. Sorry, devils advocates. In the real world, this was an absolute no-brainer. Wrong. In 2002 Sandusky was not employed by the University and it did not involve any current University students.
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 03:00 AM) Am I the only one who thinks making Joe Paterno out to be a child molester is QUITE a reach? Also, am I the only non-PSU student that believes they should have just let Paterno finish out the season? I do as well. The GA didn't report a crime he was an eyewitness to. He was the #2 person at fault here, #1 being Sandusky. He told his dad, his dad didn't tell him to go to the police. That makes me wonder exactly how he was describing what he saw. Are we really to believe that the GA told his dad I saw this guy raping an 10 year old kid. If that is the case, that he absolutely believed he had witnessed the rape of a 10 year old child, he should be locked up for child endangerment. I pin the non reporting to police blame on the eyewitness. If he wasn't certain enough to report it to the police, I have a difficult time placing more blame on either his dad or Paterno.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 09:06 PM) You stole that from a political cartoon. Rick Perry?
  9. You have to hate how the world lets down the defenseless. The poor, the kids without someone to protect them.
  10. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 02:12 PM) lol, that's funny, I haven't seen a Pollo Loco but we have KFC and Church's Chicken. The first one I went to was in Reynosa, Tamaulipas. Charcoal grilled deboned half chickens with a fresh salsa bar. They open up along the border on both sides. Hmm, I may have to take a run this weekend.
  11. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 07:05 PM) There's a GOP debate on CNBC right now Paid for by the Re-elect Obama campaign

  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) An 8 year old was raped in the shower. If that's not your first action, it's the action you ensure happens after you report. There's no if's about it. Paterno, and everyone else in that sick college town enabled it. Are we talking about the eye witness, his dad, or Paterno?
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) That's not really how our legal system works. He has to comply with any police investigations if he witnessed anything, or he could be charged with obstruction. But we don't go around arresting civilians for failing to report crimes. But we fire and destroy a career and reputation of anyone he might have told about it. God, we're screwed up in this country.
  15. GA student didn't report it to the police GA student's dad, didn't report it to the police What exactly did he say had happened in 2002? I'm still not clear on that point. I'm kind of shocked that this many people heard the Sandusky was raping a 10 year old in the shower and none of them reported it. That doesn't seem possible. If that's the case, why the hell isn't the GA arrested for failing to report a crime to the police?
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) Tex, You're a teacher, and as a teacher, you have certain responsibilities to report any child abuse. That's your legal obligation. If you report that abuse to your principal, are you done? Would you wash your hands of the matter and say "well, I told my boss, that's all I can do?" Wouldn't you follow up on the matter, making attempts to ensure that the situation was being taken seriously? If I see somebody doing something grossly incompetent in my line of work (engineering), it is not enough simply to tell my boss and then walk away. Not legally, and not morally. If you see a serious problem, you need to stand up and make sure that it is resolved before someone gets hurt. Are you asking me if another teacher told me they witnessed something, I would remind them of their legal resposnibility. Remember the GA called his dad that night and his dad told him to tell Paterno. Even his dad didn't call the police. Now should his dad lose his job also? He dad knew about it well before Paterno? And I would call Child Protective Services and the police.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 10:29 AM) Well, he forced Sandusky into retirement after he first heard about it, and then still let the guy have access to both kids and his facilities for another 3-4 years before hearing about it again and finally banning Sandusky from having kids on campus (which he still did). That to me says he knew about it and basically said its ok as long as its not on campus and you arent a PSU employee. The Grad student met with Paterno at his house and told him what he saw and nobody picked up the phone and called 911 or child services or anything. Wouldnt you expect more from the most powerful man in State College? If that is considered "doing enough" then I dont know what has happened to people. What I read was this was from 2002 and Sandusky retired in 1999. Shouldn't the eye witness be the one to call police?
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) According to Ms. Allred's statement, she has taken this case pro bono. What she gets is career building publicity.
  19. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 12:48 PM) Gloria Allred, or however you spell her name. She doesn't work for free, so she got access somehow. And should we believe her MORE because she is poor? And that is a dilema that really has no clear answer. Should she have settled for an "I'm sorry?" Our entire system of civil penalties revolves around a financial penalty. When the people who can afford it the most settle with the people they hurt and who have the least, then it's accuse the accuser time. When the people who can afford it the most settle with false accusers, it is still accuse the accuser time. Tough to know who to believe, but that highlights why Cain would settle. Who's going to believe that po' woman anyway? But I believe there are way more people settling true accusations, knowing they can explain it away with a "it was too expensive to fight" than falsly accused people settling.
  20. Very nice, and this is a school district owned device. I am in a small group trying to create lesson plans that will utilize an iPad or iPod Touch.
  21. I need to crawl through the thread again and answer all the questions but basically our idea is like the last couple of summers, leave the beach in mid July and start driving. We're stopping in San Antonio to visit her folks, then Palo Dura Canyon for the Texas! music spectacular. From there it was Yellowstone, and back. We tentatively dropped Glacier because of the additional drive. We have a longer trip planned for 2014 where that will fit in better. So basically it is South Padre Island Texas to Yellowstone and back. We are still deciding where we should stop and what we should do. From talking with a friend who was there this past summer we dropped a day or two from Yellowstone and added Grand Teton. We are going to stay two nights in a cabin at Yellowstone, but have not decided on a location. Same with the camp grounds.
  22. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 09:30 AM) Iyou got Home Depot, Office Depot, Staples, McDonalds, Burger King, Subway, Dairy Queen, WalMart, Costco, Sam's Club, Best Buy, Pizza Hut, Dominos, Little Ceasars, Jack In The Box, Starbucks, Chili's, TGIF, Napa, Autozone etc. But do you have a Pollo Loco there?
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 08:05 AM) Along with the job paying $2 an hour/ Is he a minimum wage guy here in the US? I believe his earning potential might be even better in Mexico. Wrestling is huge.
  24. One other point, think about how many very wealthy men do not have to settle harrassment claims. I wonder why that is? Why are some guys such targets?
  25. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) Not quite sure how to word this, but here goes. Several people on here getting pissy about the 'character assassination' of the women in regards to the Cain Incident(s). Just wondering what you would have him (or his proxys) DO? In a strictest he said/she said circumstance, that is about all he can do. Or should he just shut up and say nothing? Or just a simple 'they are wrong, I am innocent'? While I agree that sometimes it can go to an extreme, but is not the character of the accuser as important as the character of the person being accused? If someone IS getting paid for interviews, and is in bad financial shape, people deserve to know that, as it MAY be a basis for her allegations, or to exaggerate something that did happen. If someone has accused others if 'inappropriate conduct' a few times before, is that not also important in determining the makeup of the accuser's statements? I guess i just want to know what you would have him do? I believe that should have been done by Cain and his attorneys back at the time of the settlement(S). We are not back at the he said / she said stage, we're at the stage where there is additional evidence in the form of a settlement(S). And in our society, a financial penalty is what we extract from wrongdoers. We don't chop off fingers or cane someone. Even in criminal procedures we extract a financial penalty. So anyone that points to the very tool we use as somehow leading to an accuser's motive seems wrong to me. But you bring up a valid point and the reason that poor people are such perfect targets in our society. They do not have access to great legal counsel *and* people will discredit what they say based on their financial situation. If this was some 5th Avenue, wealthy person making the accusation, we wouldn['t be having this discussion. But since the accuser is of more modest means, she is open to this speculation.
