  1. So I hear that Osama kept posting pics and getting tagged in photos of the compound, but what really gave him away was the "I answered 15 questions about Osama" game his top advisors kept playing.
  2. Obama to address the nation shortly
  3. I had the college requirement waved because I worked in Mexico for a few years. If not, I would have been screwed. When I worked in Mexico the single guys all picked up Spanish much quicker than the married guys. It must have been because they had more time to practice.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 1, 2011 -> 08:20 PM) I just don't understand the constant pounding Walker takes not only here but just about everywhere and most years, including this one, the White Sox hitters are ranked higher than the White Sox pitchers even though on average, a lot more money is spent on the pitchers. Cooper gets no crap at all, in fact, just the opposite. That's an excellent point, it probably has to do with the team having so many sluggers through his years.
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 1, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) I figured the "isn't directed at you" part would've cleared that up Well damn, my sincere apologies, it was me who didn't read this clearly enough.
  6. We have baseball fans here, we have Sox fans here, and we have Sox supporters here. There should be room for all, and all believe the way they enjoy the game is the best. I get to a game and I relax and enjoy the show. From little league to mlb, it's all good to me. Some people like to get mad, throw things at the scream, boo the players, etc. That seems silly to me, but have at it. Others stay away until the team is winning, but follow the team in newspapers and watch on TV, others will forget about the team until they start winning, then jump on the bandwagon, still other will support the team financially by buying tickets no matter what. It's all good in my book.
  7. Naw kid you suck at baseball. The last thing I want to do is watch you wiff. hey dad, tell me again about the days when Chicago had two teams . . .
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 1, 2011 -> 07:41 PM) In the last 4 games the Sox would have had to have scored at least 13,11,7 and 7 to win. You can blame the hitting coach all you want, but firing Greg Walker isn't going to make the Sox record better. That's a very good point, but you can't ignore one problem because you have another. The team can work on more than one problem at a time.
  9. Hey dad, will you take me to a baseball game this year? Naw, I keep telling you, we only go to games when the team is winning . . .
  10. I've paid to watch high school, college, minor, independent league, and major league baseball. I've sat in the stands and watch little league games. I've been to major league games without the Sox playing. Baseball is a great sport and I enjoy going to the games. Even with a couple crappy teams playing, exciting plays happen. There should be room for fans like me and room for fans that will only buy a ticket when then can expect their team to win. If you are going to have a bad time at the ball park, why go? If you only have fun when your team is winning, than it would be silly for you to buy a ticket when they are not winning. Besides, I think it adds to the fun when a team starts winning and fans suddenly start coming out to the games.
  11. You are correct, it is impossible to know if someone would be 25% better. So, I would rather ride it out with Ozzie than gamble on someone else. Hell, it could be worse.
  12. There isn't a guy 25% better available right now.
  13. They need to sacrifice someone, and it's about time to reassign Walker. He'd be a scapegoat, it probably won't make a huge difference, but JR and or K-Dubya need to make a statement that this is unacceptable.
  14. War has changed. Today's urban warfare will result in increased civilian casualties and, sadly, our acceptance of them. In a world where young children and pregnant women strap on bombs and board buses, it seems that anything goes. In 1775 the US won our independence by changing warfare, we started shooting at commanders. The British were mortified that we would use sharpshooters to take out their leaders. Now everyone on a battlefield is fair game. Again, in the Revolutionary War US employed snipers hiding in trees, again, it totally was against all acceptable rules of war at that time. Proper rules of war called for you to come out of the woods and fight in formation. In the Civil War, instead of the armies producing everything they needed, civilians were employed in factories building weapons and ammunitions. Union forces destroyed a broad swath of the south in what became Sherman's March to the Sea, thus eliminating the Confederacy's ability to feed its citizens and support a war effort. Again, the US changed the rules of war. Of course I am not saying this is right, just passing on my opinion as to where modern warfare is going. I pray I am wrong.
  15. Gee Marty there was an entire thread to predictions http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=80585 I don't see yours there? Did you post it somewhere else? Or is this going to be an "I told my friend" kind of thing?
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 30, 2011 -> 08:13 AM) I could give a s*** about how many games back we are in the loss column. The much larger concern is that we are playing like absolute horses***, with no end in sight. I haven't the slightest clue why or how we seem to go through prolonged streaks like this every season... I can't even watch them lately...thank goodness for the NBA Playoffs. winner
  17. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Apr 30, 2011 -> 07:20 AM) I like this one Thank you. The Sox will need to make up a game every two and a half weeks to catch 1st. I just don't see how they can keep up that blistering pace.
  18. Remember this team? It's still out there. They will regain this form.
  19. There are only 135 games left to play.
  20. This would be the greatest comeback of all time if they can come from 8 games back in only 5 months! It would be epic. Even Yankee fans would be talking about the 2011 Sox who came from that far back with only 135 games to go.
  21. So Marty, what will their record be in May?
  22. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 11:30 PM) Love this board and I take no pleasure in being right predicting this as a mediocre team (at best) during this offseason, but what were optimists thinking? Ahh, the self serving, calling people out thread. I love the no pleasure, but I'll start a thread to tell y'all how smart I am.
  23. Another White Sox first - - - The first manager suspended for a tweeting violation!
  24. Wow, that seems steep. I wonder if they factored in the shot at the ump being a tough guy? I expect a $5,000 fine.
  25. A couple issues that were not address, children are not randomly assigned. Comparing two unequal groups of students is difficult. I teach US history 1492-1865, they will not have that particular subject again. What is the second snapshot? Econ? World Geography?
