  1. Not just no thank you, no f***ing way. As crazy as the one over the Grand Canyon
  2. One thought I just had, it seems we call every guy without a top fastball a pitcher and every guy with a 96+ fast ball a thrower. Seems too easy and over simplified.
  3. It seems as long as we are debating where Ryan fits among the truly outstanding pitchers of all time. I'll accept that.

Well crap, they closed the largest school district in my area. I had several projects with them next week, which are now canceled.

Shutting down the border would also harm the thousands and thousands of Americans who work in Mexico. The tourism industry along the border would collapse. Basically it would destroy this economy and most along the border.

Contrast the dangers of over reacting to under reacting. I believe people are overlooking the costs of over reacting in terms of lost productivity, etc. But in terms of public health versus economics, it is easy to fall in the public health camp.

Sobering thought of the day for me. I am attending a university where it is very common to commute daily from Mexico to attend classes.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 04:27 PM) What makes you think that its more serious? Its the damn flu, people die from seasonal flu every year, there would have to literally be 10's of thousands more deaths this year for it to even come close to seasonal flu. I dont see anyone freaking out about the flu, in fact some people even go to work with the flu. *gasp* What makes me think this is more serious is the death rate and that the current vaccinations seem to not be effective against it.
  9. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 08:46 PM) I hate Beckett, but I hate stupid umpires a lot more. So what if it was a long set by Beckett. You still don't call time when he was in the process of throwing. That can injury the pitcher. It should be a new rule where umpires can only call time when they are 100% sure the pitcher isn't in the process of throwing. Also, have you ever been in the process of throwing ball, and right before you do, someone screams stop? If so, you'll realize that in that situation, you'll be distracted and the ball will likely go no where where you intended it to. Oh, and I wouldn't like it either if Abreu was yelling at me for that s*** as well. I could very well see how someone could get pissed at Abreu about that. Agreed, but I would also agree When the ump called time, the pitcher gets pissed, and figures wtf, I'll toss one at him, it is a free ball.
  10. If the substance is in the supplement, I bet he wins his case against the manufacturer. This is very similar to McDonalds losing its case when they were advertising their french fries were fried in 100% veggie oil, and did not list beef extract in their ingredients.

QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) Well I have my opinions based on my MD friends here in the ER but that is a good point. Perhaps the difference here is location.

QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 08:58 AM) We should be no more worried about the swine flu than we are the regular yearly flu. The overreaction is amazing. As a MD friend of mine explained a couple days ago, the reason we have not had a worldwide flu pandemic in decades is this sort of "overreaction". We are forgetting the deaths that can occur from a new strain could be in the tens of thousands.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 12:58 PM) No one in the United States has died yet from contracting the disease. Sadly, that changed. http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/04/29/swine.flu/index.html
  14. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 01:24 PM) I think that if politicians decide to switch parties while they are stil lin office that they should be required to resign and run again under thier new party. After all, most people voted for that person based on their party, and if they are now switchign parties, they just disenfranchised everyone who had voted for them. Guess he doesnt have enough balls to try and run as an independent, eh? But when someone resigns, party affiliation is not considered when the Governor appoints a replacement.
  15. I really wish this debate was over two guys who would be stars on most teams, instead of two guys that would be backups on half the teams in baseball.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 11:16 AM) 2008: Approximately 21000 people die from the FLU. Not the Swine Flu...just the flu. Let's just keep it in perspective. This is a nice way to stimulate the "anti-flu" economy. Actually, that number is kept as low as it is by aggressive measures when a new strain develops. What may seem like an over-action, is probably appropriate.
  17. Sad. Most people will agree what is, and is not, torture. The merits and effectiveness is actually a fair debate in my mind. I believe it is ineffective, and really has no merits except to make some people feel better or fool themselves into thinking they are "doing something".
  18. Dikta had an unwritten rule that you would not lose your starting spot because of an injury, no matter how well your replacement was playing. I can sort of see it, you don't want guys hiding injuries. Still, baseball is a lot different in the number of games. There is no reason why, upon his return, he can't get a start or two while BA rests. I'm pulling for Brian, I hope he wins the spot and finally gets some respect from Oz. If not, trade the man, he deserves that.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 07:56 PM) Good way to get swine flu. Two of the cases are in San Antonio.
