  1. First off, when we secede, we ought to use the 1845 map. We already have a pledge that school kids recite each day after the US Pledge of Allegiance "Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one state under God, one and indivisible." And anthem “You should never ask somebody if they are a Texan. If he’s from Texas, he’ll tell you. And if he isn’t, you shouldn’t embarrass him.” I know it is difficult for people from lesser states to understand the pride that comes from being a Texan.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 09:42 AM) I am a huge Robin fan myself and I know some people would freak out about this, but despite Robin's 10 good years with the Sox, their might be an argument to be made that JD has put up better numbers and has been more valuable to the Sox during his time. I'd respect either choice. That's a damn fine number in Chicago sports.
  3. Seems like we should take the best thinking, no matter where it comes from.
  4. Frank never hired Boras as an agent. Never went to his own doctors instead of the team's choice. And was dumped anyways.
  5. QUOTE (T R U @ Mar 28, 2009 -> 04:36 AM) Ide pay to f*** that prostitute Yeah, that's how it works.
  6. If you go Psychology you will need a Masters degree at the minimum. Most people will tell you to plan on a PhD. There are a lot of fields in Psychology, Industrial for one, Sports Psy for another, where you are not dealing with "problems" but more enhancements.
  7. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 05:18 PM) It's because a lot of people believe that it's coming. Since Mr. Obama clearly understands what this guy's plight is, I'm sure he'll want to swoop in to rescue us all from guns. We, the people, can't be trusted. It certainly is good for business to create a "buy it now before it gets banned" sale at higher prices. Oh wait, gun shops and manufacturers wouldn't do that Obama has done more to spur gun sales and ammunition sales in this country than any other President. Every time a Dem is elected President, the industry pumps up the warning, increasing sales. And the general public takes it full barrel, so to speak.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 08:00 AM) That would be my first choice, but there is no way that the players association would agree to limit compenstation like that. Trading picks is a much more realistic scenario. Agreed.
  9. Where are the kid's parents? They should be advising him to find a nice agent that will get him $3,000,000
  10. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) In California, the hearing for AB390 has been postponed from Tuesday http://www.canorml.org/news/ammianobill.html What they save in criminal prosecution will then be spent enforcing the tax laws. $1 a joint extra? When it can be home grown and a very usable product cultivated for much less? Unlike liquor, marijuana is far easier to produce a good product. And will younger users be more likely to pull a hey mister, or continue buying from the black market? I'm not saying it is a bad idea, but they are smoking some of the product to think they are going to save that much on law enforcement.

    Well Water

    Depends on where you drill the well. It probably is better for you, health wise. Being a hiker and backpacker, I have a high tolerance for taste in water. I would suggest revisiting the house and tasting the water. For a comparison, find out what chemicals your city water is treated with and what chemicals are added.
  13. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) but with MLM products, you see people (friends/family) glaze over pretty quickly when you start pitching the idea to them. I have a past coworker who I would call a friend who is a serial participant in MLM. Lately it's been three (four?) in the travel industry. My last conversation with him . . . Me: I am enjoying life right now, relaxing on the island, taking some classes, reading. A part time job just does not fit. Him: But this is (yet another) ground floor opportunity. This will allow you the financial freedom to do what you want! Me: Really? That does sound good. Him: You bet, imagine what you could do with the free time . . . Me: Yeah, I could relax on the island, take some classes, read some books I've been meaning to get to . . . Him: EXACTLY!

    QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) No on pineapple. It's a bromeliad that is commercially propagated through cut cultivars and most commercial cultivars lack seeds which negatively effect fruit quality. Now, corn, on the other hand, should be accepted. And yes, corn is technically a fruit and not a vegetable since it's basically the seeds and over-ripened ovaries of the plant that we are consuming. But the seeds are not on the outside

  22. Finally.........an explanation we should all be able to understand. Heidi is the proprietor of a bar in Detroit. In order to increase sales, she decides to allow her loyal customers - most of whom are unemployed alcoholics - to drink now but pay later. She keeps track of the drinks consumed on a ledger (thereby granting the customers loans). Word gets around about Heidi's drink now pay later marketing strategy and as a result, increasing numbers of customers flood into Heidi's bar and soon she has the largest sale volume for any bar in Detroit. By providing her customers' freedom from immediate payment demands, Heidi gets no resistence when she substantially increases her prices for wine and beer, the most consumed beverages. Her sales volume increases massively. A young and dynamic vice-president at the local bank recognizes these customer debts as valuable future assets and increases Heidi's borrowing limit. He sees no reason for undue concern since he has the debts of the alcoholics as collateral. At the bank's corporate headquarters, expert traders transform these customer loans into DRINKBONDS, ALKIBONDS and PUKEBONDS. These securities are then traded on security markets worldwide. Niave investors don't really understand the securities being sold to them as AAA secured bonds are really the debts of unemployed alcoholics. Nevertheless, their prices continuously climb, and the securities become the top-selling items for some of the nation's leading brokerage houses. One day, although the bond prices are still climbing, a risk manager at the bank (subsequently fired due his negativity), decides that the time has come to demand payment on the debts incurred by the drinkers at Heidi's bar. Heidi demands payment from her alcoholic patrons, but being unemployed they they cannot pay back their drinking debts. Therefore, Heidi cannot fulfill her loan obligations and claims bankruptcy. DRINKBOND and ALKIBOND drop in price by 90%. PUKEBOND performs better, stabilizing in price after dropping by 80%. The decreased bond asset value destroys the banks liquidity and prevents it from issuing new loans. The suppliers of Heidi's bar, having granted her generous payment extentions and having invested in the securities are faced with writing off her debt and losing over 80% on her bonds. Her wine supplier claims bankruptcy, her beer supplier is taken over by a competitor, who immediately closes the local plant and lays off 50 workers. The bank and brokerage houses are saved by the Government following dramatic round-the-clock negotiations by leaders from both political parties. The funds required for this bailout are obtained by a tax levied on employed middle-class non-drinkers.
  23. greedy two faced mother f***er. If he really wants to stay in Chicago, sign the deal. Be a man, don't hide behind your agent. Like he's ever going to spend $15 mil. That's probably more than his parents made their whole lives. Too soon?
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 07:47 AM) I'll be the contrarian here, sort of. I think these cameras are a generally good idea, but, poorly executed. The process to fight a ticket is a huge pain (DC in particular), which is just wrong to me - you make it easier to write tickets, you'd better make it just as easy to contest them. And any sort of manipulation to get more revenue - changing light timing, nicking people who you shouldn't, etc. - is beyond bad, and might be illegal anyway. ^^ I'd rather fix the system. I do have some privacy concerns, and the tickets should not count against any points on your license, be used to increase insurance rates, etc.
  25. Some sales guy on new car lot in Boise sells a Ford. His boss, the sales manager makes a little. The GM of the dealership makes a little. The owner makes a little. The regional manager for Ford makes a little. The area director for Ford makes a little, in fact, that sales person's sale supports everyone up to the CEO of Ford. Multilevel marketing.
