My pet conspiracy theory
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 12, 2009 -> 10:03 AM) CDS swaps only insure the par value of the bond, not the interest coupons - at least the ones I am familiar with. Swaps are one-off contracts, so I suppose one could write stipulations into it regarding coupon non-payment. Then shall we explore a type of "default" similar to that in the 1930s when Bonds were no longer guaranteed in gold? Perhaps this is insurance that the US T will not make fundamental changes in the terms like increasing the time to yield? Am I sounding like an idiot yet? I am such a small time investor, and this is clearly big time issues.

My pet conspiracy theory
I'm not one of the finance guys around here but, IIRC, bonds issued prior to 1985 could be called without the treasury paying the full interest. Perhaps this applies to those bonds?

Drew Peterson arrested
It would seem that having the law commonly referred to as the "Drew Peterson" law, will also work in his favor. I appreciate living in a country where it is very rare for an innocent person to be convicted of any crime, especially one as serious as murder. However, it is maddening that wealth, fame, and access tends to warp the playing field or that the laws protect the guilty.

Just the pitching staff
Thinking about your post, there is a range of options, albeit a small range, based on the available resources. This is one that has potential to work here in May. Thinking ahead, at some point it will become what is best for development, not trying to win today. This list then becomes obsolete and someone like Colon may be dispensable. Which highlights the kind of moves that K-Dubya and Ozzie have to be thinking about. K-Dubya has to be thinking on a longer horizon than Oz, who is thinking on a longer horizon than many fans on a message board who want to win it all, today.

Roxana Saberi
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 12, 2009 -> 08:34 AM) I have no information to base that on, just what I think is an understanding of how their government thinks. Now the ball is kind of in our court and they expect us to do something, I read it as a response to Obama's overtures a couple months ago. It certainly seems plausible. I'm surprised no one else is talking about that.

Roxana Saberi
Interesting theory, have you seen anyone with more information make that claim? I'd love to read about that.

Are you in or out?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2009 -> 07:55 AM) That is a great last paragraph. If you are miserable, you are doing it wrong. Turn off the TV and find something you enjoy instead. What is really strange is that many of the posters who posted all winter variations on how many different ways this team will suck, are now upset the team is living down to expectations. I am not suggesting that we just blindly cheer whatever crap the organization trots out there, but a little perspective on what real trials and tribulations are, and an appreciation of the game for the game's sake, goes a long way.

Drew Peterson arrested
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) SOunds like the law might be unconstitutional, because it deprives Peterson of his right to confront his accuser, in this case, his dead wife. It will be a test for some (activist) judge.

Are you in or out?
QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ May 11, 2009 -> 10:07 PM) TexSox- Without a doubt, you are my favorite poster here. This site would be a real drag without the levity you add. Thanks for the perspective you add to this site. Pants. P.S. Can I have sex with you, too? P.P.S. Ozzie Guillen replaces Alexei with...Ozzie Guillen: First player-manager since Pete Rose. Well, when it comes to baseball, or any subject for that matter, I'm an idiot, or so I've been told (repeatedly). At least I can laugh about it. I have mentioned this before, but I will repeat it for the new posters. After 30+ years of following this team, you have to enjoy the sport and the entertainment that is White Sox baseball. Perhaps I am one of the last of Veecks "World's biggest saloon" holdouts. We are not Yankee fans who can expect to win a Championship a few times per decade. So I accept what is on the field and enjoy the season. I am not going to lose sleep over it, getting mad about it is about as sane as getting mad because Jennifer Aniston made a crappy movie and you are a fan of hers. Allow me to post a few Bill Veeck quotes that I appreciate. The most beautiful thing in the world is a ballpark filled with people. Bill Veeck The true harbinger of spring is not crocuses or swallows returning to Capistrano, but the sound of the bat on the ball. Bill Veeck There are only two seasons - winter and Baseball. Bill Veeck What can I do, I asked myself, that is so spectacular that no one will be able to say he had seen it before? The answer was perfectly obvious. I would send a midget up to bat. Bill Veeck Somewhere in there is why I love White Sox baseball. A long time ago I accepted I may never see a Sox World Series, I was wrong. But I have accepted I may never see another one. Every win, every player like Mark Buehrle or Frank Thomas, is to be cherished. So some fans, including many here, can get frustrated and s*** all over my team, but that is your choice and how you want to enjoy this team. The saloon is big enough for everyone. Just don't get annoyed when I cheer when you want to spew a profanity laced diatribe at the team. I often times wonder if many of the negative posters here are just trying to convince themselves how smart they are about baseball by posting the 1001 ways a team can fall apart and lose.So in the end who is smarter? The fans who enjoy the boys of summer, or those who spend so much time and energy saying this team sucks?

Buehrle jinxed his own no hitter
Mark would be the perfect poster here. And half the poeple would call him a moron and tell him he knows nothing about baseball.
