  1. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 05:07 PM) NBC had an interview with the former CEO of HP Mitchell: "Do you think Sarah Palin could run a corporation?" Fiorina: No, I don't she could, or John McCain, or Barack Obama, or Joe Biden" What did NBC air? Mitchell: "Do you think Sarah Palin could run a corporation?" Fiorina: "No, I don't think she could, or John McCain." That ended what they showed of the interview. lol. Link?
  2. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 09:10 PM) Not so fast, says Sun Times lawyers. They threatened to sue for No-Compete issues and the Tribune backed off Which gets to the point, both Chicago newspapers believe he will increase circulation. If the Sun Times didn't believe it they would not be blocking this and the Trib wouldn't be trying to hire him.
  3. I tell them Obama is a Muslim, his wife hates America, and his Pastor wants to kill whitey. Who the hell has time for facts?
  4. Something I learned in writing the bio was that shot of Fisk waving the ball fair was an accident. The cameraman would have been following the ball but a rat (At Fenway!) distracted him and all he could do is follow the player. That highlight is credited with changing the way TV covers baseball, focusing on the player.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 05:47 PM) These people make gobs of money. Which I have no problem with. But you can't make gobs of money for years, run a company into the ground, and then expect taxpayers to pay you even more. Sorry, I have zero sympathy in those cases. I have no sympathy either. But at some level I want them to see what they did for the lowest members of the company. Maybe getting that check for $142.80 a week will remind them more than zero. Either way I think we agree. And I understand businesses fail. Hell, I've been around one or two that closed.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) Haven't heard that, but, good. I've said before, I'd like to see Congress propose a lead parachute act. Basically, it goes like this. If C-level executives want to run their companies in to the ground, fine. BUT, if they should do anything that results in the federal gov't stepping in - bankruptcy, bailout, etc. - they should all be let go, with ZERO compensation from that point forward. No parachute, no severance, etc. I think that is slightly harsh. They should receive exactly what their lowest paid employee gets. And maybe if I'm in a generous mood, I'd even consider going double based on their tax contributions through the years. Oh, and if they had outsourced any of those jobs overseas, that would be the lowest paid.
  7. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 10:55 AM) I find it sort of funny that anybody would really be irritated that we 'wasted' a 36th round draft pick on Oney. If it wasn't for the minor leagues, the baseball draft would be over in the 15th round.
  8. Hmm, Occom's Razor September call ups, a possible shortage of lockers, pull some stuff out of the guy who isn't there.
  9. We just have to keep matching Minny loss for loss

    Lather Rinse Repeat

QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 07:07 AM) Down under I do double duty (most important) but up top is a single wash and rinse. 5own under? you living with dbaho? lol
  11. Why is hair the only substance that needs to be washed twice?
  12. Meanwhile NBA groupies await the arrival of the Thunder Clap . . .
  13. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 10:15 PM) I'm not blaming Crede for having Boras. I don't hold it against any player that has Boras as an agent. Baseball is a business, and players want to get paid. Boras can get that done. The problem is, I'm not rooting for Crede. I root for the White Sox. Scott gave Crede advice that would best serve Boras, or at least thats what he thought. The Sox wanted one thing, and Scott and Crede choose another option, and that option clearly didn't work.
  14. I feel a lot more positive about the future of Fraternities today then I did ten years ago. There were serious discussions about the future and the future was not looking bright. What has framed a lot of my thinking on this was the disgust that my peers had for what their Fraternities became. They compared their experiences as a rushee and their son's experiences and came away with negative attitudes. I heard over and over again that things changed. Now I believe when their grandchildren are arriving on campus, and if they head over to their old Fraternity, they will again see changes, but this time for the better.
  15. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 10:48 PM) Why? The entire surgery fiasco that took place was a joke, and orchestrated by Boras. The rift between Crede and the Sox has centered around Boras. Maggs. Name another agent that will land a player in the DL with a very handsome contract? Would you rather have Boras as your agent, or as the agent for the team you are trying to land a contract with? If my only goal was playing for the Sox, I would not even need a agent, I could just take whatever contract they offered.
  16. QUOTE (BearSox @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) More like 9. I would put money on it that he made his high school team based solely on reputation. Solid fundamentals (at that age) will land you a roster spot in High School.
  17. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 08:11 PM) I agree to some extent, however, I still think that you should spend every single draft pick on people who have legitimate skills, talent, or potential because as we've all seen you can get lucky and get a mark buerhle, mike piazza or albert pujols. Why waste a pick as a favor to someone's kid instead of drafting a kid with an electric arm but no control, or someone with marginal stuff but great makeup (buerhle) use all those picks, don't waste one You never know who the next pujols is going to be Those late rounds are to fill rosters in the lower levels, with really zero expectations they will ever see the 40 man roster. Every team does this. But you are right, it is safer to try your best with every draft pick. But while you are taking chances, why not take a chance, you Piazza is always mentioned. He was drafted based on his sperm donor.
  18. Until he signs for 2009 and beyond, I will not say if he and his agent handled this well or poorly. But if I was Joe, under these circumstances, I'd want Boras as my agent. The Sox won't offer him a bag of peanuts with his back. Boras will find him a raise.
  19. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) I agree with you...if we can't take one game we shouldn't even be in the playoffs. Last April every person here would have taken the prospect of needing two out of three in Minny to make the playoffs. One out of three would have had us whooping and hollering.
