  1. I agree 90% is high for a percentage in favor of the Kimbrel signing, but it was a clear majority. Bullpen was widely regarded as the top need at the time. I remember coming in and expressing a pretty muted note of criticism of the high price we paid, and getting hammered by posters demanding that I identify which high-end reliever was available at a better price.
  2. I do agree that JR saddled us with a totally unnecessary handicap in TLR.
  3. Too early to ask these questions imo, especially for me since I predicted a lackluster first half followed by a good second. Talk to me in July after (hopefully) our players have come back from injury and we’ve had a chance to ride this out a bit more. We’re not that far back as it is, and a five/six game win streak could get us right back in the division race and would change the whole outlook around here (and if a week’s play can dramatically change your outlook you need to reassess your perspective.). Hell, I know nobody wants to hear this, but we could disappoint this whole season and come back like gang busters and win the WS next season. These things don’t always happen “on schedule.” Everyone talks about the Braves winning the WS after limping thru the first half, but look at the Yankees who folks regard as unbeatable now—they struggled for the first half of last season with the same team due to injuries and poor play and essentially missed the playoffs. Success (which we may or may not find) does not necessarily look like perfect play during every month of your window.
  4. Lighten up. It’s worth it for no other reason than to see the various earnest responses that have followed it, kind of proving OP’s point. Losing a single series to this supposed juggernaut was definitive proof to lots of posters that this team was garbage. Shockingly the reverse doesn’t seem to be true? That’s worthy of a little parody.
  5. just woke up in Europe and…wtf was this? Oh well, move on. Silver lining: the Red Sox play of late makes our sweep in Fenway look better…
  6. Yeah, my respect for our posting population plummeted in the last day or so.
  7. I’d say this is right IF Lynn comes back and is reasonably close to the guy he was last year. They’re certainly in the conversation. Sidenote, I’d be interested to hear the opinion of the guy who gave the “laugh emoji” as to which rotation he thinks is not only better than the Sox’s, but so much better as to make this laughable.
  8. Bingo. For making a face that was 100% justified to a confirmed cheater and disgrace to the game. But it showed up Manfred himself, that’s the difference. Shows pretty clearly where the MLB’s priorities lie.
  9. Love it. TA sticks it to the Yankees, Donaldson, and the Soxtalk Boomer Brigade.
  10. Wow, imagine Sox fans immediately taking Josh fucking Donaldson’s word for it in a skirmish with the face of the White Sox franchise. How weird. Must be a pretty powerful countervailing interest at work there. Wonder what that is…
  11. Hoping to see the full available White Sox lineup, and a W, in this one. Let's get going.
  12. If you only have one day you will probably want to hit the tourist areas from Millennium Park up Michigan Avenue through the Magnificent Mile and into River North, where you will probably also be staying. Maybe Lincoln Park Zoo (which is free) and/or one or more of the Museum Campus museums if that's your thing. You can fill a very fun day that way. As far as game day, I'd echo the Skylark and Marz recommendations above (also Bernice's) and also suggest hitting Kimski/Maria's Packaged Goods after the game for some grub and good vibes.
  13. Funny thing is the crime rate and murder rate are probably lower than when your younger self lived and partied here. But whatever, it's the well-worn and self-assuring mantra of generations of suburban pioneers moving into middle age. Nothing new under the sun.
  14. Good parody. There are probably real people who actually say things like this!
  15. Ok, so back to the topic at hand…we’re agreed that regular season record against good teams is far from determinative? I’ll stick with the original goalpost if you don’t mind.
  16. To continue the Braves comparison, the WS champs were 31-37 against teams with a winning record.
  17. They’ve played together a total of two times. They’re 2-0 in those games. So, yes? Anyway, my point was that we need to start grooving by optimizing our lineup more than occasionally. I don’t wish to be drawn into your performance.
  18. Yes, you say things like that a lot.
  19. I don’t know if the Sox offense will get good. I know the Sox lineup without Moncada, Eloy or Vaughn is not good. I just don’t understand how we keep running these lineups out there when we need to get into some kind of rhythm.
  20. Great win. Hoping that's the turning point for Kelly.
  21. I don't think you understand the definition of the term "troll."
  22. Right, we got it. You can go ahead and just say "I predict the White Sox will lose every series this season" and save yourself a lot of time.
  23. I know certain posters get a lot of rope around here because of shared history or whatever reason. But I think it’s genuinely unfortunate and counterproductive that so much of the commentary on the site is driven by trolls.
  24. Yeah not really worried about him at all
