QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 9, 2011 -> 08:44 PM) Yup, been saying that. But then again, I've been saying a lot of things. They need a lot of pitchers to step up all year to really pull away at all.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (hawksfan61 @ May 8, 2011 -> 01:16 PM) You are the first Sox fan I have ever seen pine for Ron Schueler, good grief. Propect guys would have loved Ron though, because Ron sure did LOVE his prospects. In fact he loved them so much he refused to ever part with them to upgrade the major league team, and when 85% of these guys went belly up (like most prospects do) we were left with the Scott Ruffcorns and the Mike Carusos of the world. Also, Ron pulled off the move so many are begging for around here, a firesale. He ended up with such a great return on that boondoggle, we ended up with a whole two relief pitchers for three good major league pitchers. Yup, Ron would be the guy to clean this mess up for sure. Just because a person loves to have a stocked farm system doesn't mean they want a firesale. It's about having talent at the MLB level and and the MiLB level, so that a team can sustain success year in and year out, and not have to be stuck with huge contracts of underwhelming players to fix holes because of a lack of young talent.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 8, 2011 -> 10:51 AM) I officially hate High Mileage. Jake Odorizzi, who I don't think is viewed as one of the Royals' top 5 pitching 'spects, is obliterating High A at the ripe old age of 20. 2.42 ERA, 13.15 K/9, 1.73 BB/9 in 5 starts so far. The Royals are coming. Their system is so ridiculously deep with studs that even if most fail they'll still end up with 4-5 primetime players.

Absolutely incredible story, couldn't imagine going through that. The whole flying through the air part would have been scary as hell (not saying the other parts weren't either).

You are KW/JR. You have the power
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 4, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) I think it's safe to say Cooper would never preside over the team as interim manager, and then yield to some other manager next year, especially considering he has the Yankees knocking on his door. True, but a new manager has to have the ability to choose his staff, so it's a risk to see if Coop has what it takes to manage or risk losing him in the offseason.

Cooper as interim manager, and depending on what he shows you go get a new coach in the offseason and if Coop and the new coach can work together, great, if not, the new manager gets his man at pitching coach.

The Finer Things In Life
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 3, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) Glen Talloch is owned by Boomsma and is the number one blended scotch whisky in the Netherlands. I don't think I've ever seen it stateside but I could be wrong. From the online description and reviews it sounds like a low-smoke, innocuous blend. I neglected to ask if you had a chance to try any jenever while you were in Holland and if so what you thought of them. Oh and interesting research about Glen Talloch, it was so cheap (for Holland standards) that it really surprised me.

QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ May 3, 2011 -> 01:43 PM) Going to longman and eagle for my birthday dinner today, so excited!! Anyone care to recommend me a beer from this menu? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated and consumed http://longmanandeagle.com/wp-content/uplo...2/beer_menu.pdf Saison Dupont, you won't be disappointed. Awesome thing is, that is only the 3rd best beer from that brewery that I've had. I still have a bottle of their Moinette Brune that I need to try.

I neglected to ask if you had a chance to try any jenever while you were in Holland and if so what you thought of them. I actually did get a chance, I tried it once at a pregame with friends and it was delicious, not at all like gin in the states (gin has never been a go to drink for me, had a bad experience back in the day where it was just the worst taste). And I also got some when on a pubcrawl once. The taste was much more mild than gin I have had here, and it was very smooth. The one I had at the pregame actually didn't taste strong at all, but it was right around 40% still.

The Finer Things In Life
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 2, 2011 -> 11:34 PM) I have nothing bad to say about Evan Williams as a mixing bourbon (my personal preference is Four Roses yellow label or Old Forrester if I can't find Four Roses). But for MAYBE $2 more you can do a lot better than a cruddy mixto tequila like Sauza Silver. ANY 100% de agave would be better, and you can find several right at $20. Give El Jimador a shot. It is now once again a 100% de agave and it is the number 1 selling blanco tequila in Mexico so it certainly is authentic enough. At least try a mixto side by side with a 100% de agave one evening at a bar so you can taste the difference. Evan Williams is a definite mixer, sometimes a shooter if the pregame needs to get rowdy. I guess I loved Sauza Silver because I was comparing it to Cuervo which is absolutely disgusting IMO, but I'll give that a try next time, thanks for the recommendation! Speaking of cheap liquor, when I was in Holland I saw this bottle of scotch on sale so I picked it up for a pregame drink for when my brother was meeting up with me. It was called Glen Talloch, was described only as "very old, and rare" with no actual year on it. Considering the price, it was actually a hell of a cheap scotch, I was surprised by how smooth it was and the flavor was decent. My brother, who is pretty big into whiskeys, was blown away that it was actually a decent drink. We kept joking before opening it how bad it was going to be haha.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 2, 2011 -> 08:22 PM) Joaquin Benoit has given up 10 ER in 11 IP this year. He gave up 9 ER in 60.1 IP last year. This is Exhibit T-439 as to why you don't give a big multi year contract to a middle reliever, especially one that is coming off his first fully healthy year in 3 years. It will all balance out

The Finer Things In Life
Went to Binny's just now, and they had my favorite Belgian Strong Ale onsale in 750ml bottles, picked up a few as gifts for friends who appreciate great beer. Also bought a few handles of my favorite cheap tequila and bourbon (Sauza Silver and Evan Williams, respectively). I love the prices of liquor in the states compared to in Europe, so much cheaper.

Osama Bin Laden Dead
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 2, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) Is this a fitting celebration? I saw nothing wrong with that celebration, I saw group signing, USA chants, and college kids just screaming "ya!!!!" into a camera as they walked by, and a ton of peace signs. Some idiots climbed on some poles, but there weren't riots, people fighting, or anything truly obscene.

Osama Bin Laden Dead
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 1, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) A lot of people are tweeting the same stories right now. Relatives screwing it up at first and saying Obama is dead. You'll have a story to tell your grandkids someday. Was your mom all excited when she said it or was it just a calm mom moment screw up? She was pretty excited, 9/11 is one of the few times I ever saw my parents cry and I could tell they were both happy that this guy is no longer walking the earth.

Osama Bin Laden Dead
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 1, 2011 -> 10:20 PM) That's a pretty big mistake from your mom. Oh well, give her a hug anyway. She was definitely trying to say Osama is dead and Obama is going to speak but was combining the two. Freaked my dad out too, he just walked by and his face went pale as a ghost.

Osama Bin Laden Dead
My mom just came into my bedroom and said "Obama is dead." I about stopped breathing for 30 seconds until she realized what she said and corrected herself "Osama is dead, Obama is speaking soon."
