QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 07:46 PM) For someone like me, it blows because I find it really hard to breakthrough the IT industry. Really really hard. That and Information Systems. Honestly, Im kind of shocked by this. Even after I received my offer for an internship last summer I was still being begged by professors and career services to apply for internships, companies were desperate for IT interns. I know that the company that hired me is increasing from 6 IT interns to 14 this summer, with only myself being carried over, so there were 13 slots open. And I am not a technical person, that is not what I am interested in and is not my specialty, and that was pretty much made clear in all of my interviews with my hiring company, they took me because of my business knowledge and leadership experiences. Most of the software/applications I used (SAP R/3, Novell IDM) were never going to be taught in the classroom anyways. The manager that pulled me from the applicant list did so because I had many other skills to offer besides being technically strong, and one thing he mentioned to me was that he can train me in whatever technical area they need to, that's what getting a 4 yr degree proves, that you can learn. Some companies look for interns just to be cheap programmers, etc, and that isn't for me.
  2. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) If that is my GM's worst move, I'm a pretty happy fan. Especially if his best moves include those like Thorton, Danks, and Floyd. Neglecting the farm system for so many years is actually KW's worst move. Think about it, KW's strength is in finding other team's prospects/players to contribute to the Sox, he has a pretty fair record in trades, and I do love that he isn't hesitant to make a move (thought I do disagree with his targets sometimes). But he and JR are pretty terrible when it comes to building from within, they restrict themselves and because of that they have held back the potential of where this organization could be. Yes, they have had a successful decade in Sox standards, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't have done better. They couldn't put together consistent years, mainly because they didn't have the depth to recover from injuries or lack of production on players that they relied heavily on. Have a strong farm system to help with injuries or to use as trade bait could've been the difference between a good 10 years (and I really only call it good because they won the WS, I know "only" but they weren't consistently good enough), and a great 10 years.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 12:46 PM) Between that and the terrible attempts at chicago accents, I feel they should hire me as a consultant. When Frank was in the prison in Canada and the crazy guy asked if that was a Chicago accent I was thinking how he could even tell that, Macy definitely does not have a Chicago accent.

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 09:41 AM) Great finale for Shameless. Loved the drama. Assuming when we cone back next year Fiona is with Tony. Hilarious when Lip pee'd on Frank and Frank took it. Guy I work with says it is now different from British version because at the end of season 1, Fiona leaves and never comes back. Haha that part was great. I thought the whole Steve and his other life thing was gonna be a bigger story, guess not. I miss the show already though :/
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 25, 2011 -> 11:04 AM) Funny you post that. I got to Mexico just loving the game, but haven't picked it up since the first hour or so of Mexico. I keep saying I'll finish it, but who knows. I enjoyed the game throughout, and never really had a problem finishing it. I can't wait to get back and finish up the zombie extension pack, I was having a blast with that but just ran out of time before I left.
  6. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 02:06 AM) So why did I read somewhere that the Cubs are on the hook for $8M? Why not $11M? Didn't they get some money in the deal? And also, if another team picks him up won't they pay him league min and the Cubs will save that much? I believe that is the rule.
  7. I know that personally I tend to be a bit of a "pessimist," but that's more because I don't always agree with the KW style. I have differing views on how the team should be run, especially in areas like drafting and development. I also must say that many of the things that I truly get upset about are topics that will keep appearing, as they have a long term impact on the team, and the last thing I want to see is the Sox struggling to put out a competitive team. That said, two of my favorite things to do in life is to follow the Sox in the offseason and analyze the moves, and secondly is to watch a Sox game live (at the ballpark or on TV).
  8. Got back from Scotland today, tried about 4-5 ales and IPAs. Abbot Deuchars Belhaven Tennets Swilcan There was another one that I had that was quite good but it was during a pub crawl and I don't remember very much from that night.
  9. Love this move, only 24 and hopefully we can get him back on track.
  10. I totally agree with you Jim, and believe me I don't skimp when it comes to trying beers out here. I probably should've tried that IPA, but we were only at that bar for about 30 mins and I had already tried their other local brew. Im sure out here in Scotland I'll have more opportunities!

First night in London was on Tuesday, we got back from the bars around 4am, went to bed in our room. Somehow, I woke up in another room at the hostel, completely emtpy and only woke up because the maid came in and was surprised I was in there. Never blacked out that hardcore before.
  12. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 11:22 PM) Before my wife and I went to England I had a recurring nightmare about going and not being able to find Real Ale in any pub I went to. It was horrific!! Fortunately that was not the case when we finally got there. I'm very surprised to hear the clubs and bars you've hit up aren't serving up any any cask ale. Certainly that won't be the case in the traditional pubs. I tried one named Abbot, and there was an IPA there but it was only 3.6% alc, and that just seemed like an unreasonably low % for an IPA. I just didn't want to spend 5 pounds on a beer like that when I had Guinness for 3.50 pounds.
  13. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 05:11 PM) Oh, and Barcelona rocks. Been there too. (offshoot of Libya thread, heh)
  14. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) Yes. Was there for 4 or 5 days. It's all pink. And don't photograph the police officers. They get mad. The souk there is right off the main square in the center of town. Of course the main square is probably where a lot of the political gatherings are going to be, which is unfortunate. The charm there is unmistakeable - the snake charmers, the food, the souk sort of blends in the square. One of the more interesting memories of there is the early morning call to prayer - the streets are deserted and then they are just jam packed all at once right when the sun comes up. One thing I love about Morocco is the architecture. Marrakech, like I said, has all pink walls surrounding the old city. Back when I was there, the city was sort of just getting outside of the walled part, I'm sure it's grown well beyond it now. Have fun bartering with the merchants. Awesome!! Great to hear!! One of my fave things while traveling is just enjoying the different architecture, so Im def looking forward to visiting there!!
  15. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 06:32 AM) That would be tragic if it kept you from drinking as much real ale as you can while in England — and this is coming from the biggest Guinness fan you will ever meet. Since I have to live vicariously through you while trying not to be too jealous, lift a pint or two for me. I unfortunately haven't seen too many local ales at the bars we have hit up, besides the popular ones such as Carlsberg, Stella, etc. And since Guinness is so much better here I figured I would order it more often, but I did give the local brews a shot when I saw them. Hoping to see more in Scotland starting tomorrow!
  16. I could drink Guinness here in London all day.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) Pretty sure he was being sarcastic. Yup

I knew that I recognized the blonde in the latest Shameless episode, it's TCW from Scrubs.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 07:17 AM) Garcia would be available if we really needed someone from the sounds of it, but why would he have wanted to be our sixth starter, when chances were for him he could have been 4th or 5th starter for the Yankees? Never said he should have come here, but he should've gotten a major league deal, no matter where he went. He and his agent should've realized that with Freddy's stuff diminishing rapidly, that risking have to have an impressive spring training to make a squad would be a very risky move.
  20. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 07:28 AM) Thanks alot Keith. Was way too young to go. Just heard he had an overdose on pills (I believe pain pills). Crazy thing was, he left Chicago to get out of trouble for a while. Wow, I have no idea what I would do if I lost one of my childhood friends like that, Im sorry for you loss.
  21. Finished my last exam for the semester, drinking a Duvel to celebrate, doing laundry then packing up and getting ready to head out to the airport. Doing these next 5 weeks big, got 3 trips planned: 1) London Edinburgh 2) Barcelona Marrakech Lisbon Zurich 3) Belgium Berlin Krakow Vienna Spend a recovery night in between each at my apartment in Rotterdam, last night will be in Amsterdam and flying back to the States early on April 26th. I can't believe Im about to do this!!
  22. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) Morocco is awesome... well, for the history and beauty anyway. Was there for almost a month a while back. Did you by chance go to Marrakech?
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 12:18 AM) Like somebody said, we need Freddy about now. Sucks that he's gone. I wonder if we could make some minor deal with somebody to get a Bruce Chen type guy (not Chen, but somebody like him). Any guys out there still unsigned? Freddy probably won't make the Yankees out of spring training, I think that's pretty telling considering his competition and the number of jobs that were open for the taking. From what I have read, he is losing to Nova and Bartolo Colon, of all people, for the final rotation spot. He really should've signed a major league deal with someone.
  24. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 08:09 PM) Be careful what you wish for. There's a reason why Milledge is on a different team every year. There's a reason why teams keep picking him up too.
  25. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 06:12 PM) Hopefully at least one will be against the Twins - with Paul Konerko charging the mound. Exactly. f*** the suspensions our best players would receive and hurting our possibility of making the playoffs. As long as we get a few punches in, and we all know how great the fights on fields have been, this team would be considered a success.
