QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 04:14 AM) Did you go to the Train Station in Blackwater yet? There is a stranger mission there that's pretty important.. Also, thats what DLC is for Yea I figured that out in like a minture after you take on the Jack Marston part. Just wanted more to that party of the story, but I guess it leaves it for a second one.

Video Game Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (LZPride08 @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 01:21 AM) So I finally beat 100% of Red Dead Redemption, I beat all the challenges and the story line and it was awesome. Now I'm looking forward to NCAA Football '11.. also if you get the demo of college football and play it, you can unlock 11 nike pro combat jerseys, just an FYI that I thought was cool Same just finished Red Dead like 5 minutes ago. Loved and hated the ending, but loved it more because it went the less traditional route which was good. Overall just an amazing game, but I do wish there were more

Future of AJ
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) Yeah, 'cause you know best. Kalapse's statement seemed quite possible to me. AJ wasnt hitting great and due a decent amount of money, plus teams werent just willing to start trading yet. The Rangers, really the only reported team to have big interest in AJ, backed off because of ownership issues. How about backing up your statements with substance, not just insults and trying to put down people. Point out that there are teams in contention with struggling catchers and how much of a fit Aj would be there, or that Kenny still believed in this team. Say something constructive.

If we do get back in this. . .
People would respect your opinions and read more of your posts if you didnt act like such an asshole to so many posters here. Just my advice, take it or leave it.

Future of AJ
QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) I figured since I posted it RIGHT after bigruss complained about it, any sarcastic accents wouldn't have been needed.. no reason for apologies.. I luaghed. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) To me, it seems clear we should hang onto him and offer arbitration to get the draft picks. Just my 2 cents... Then I cried.

Sexiest Names
QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 01:37 PM) What a great town, it's really a shame that many people that vacation there just hang out on Bourbon Street when there are areas like Frenchmen Street (definitely where I hang out when I go there) and see some of the craziest S*it in your life. Reggae Bars, Jazz bars, taco trucks, it is amazing My first time down there I did the Bourbon St thing most of the time, but also went to a few other places (but not being 21 limited it a bit). The second time we went to Frenchmen Street and other areas more, saw more of the Tulane bars, etc. I was there on Alternative Spring Break and we hung out with the Americorp volunteers more and they knew all the local spots which really helped. I just fell in love with the culture, atmosphere, architecture there. If I could live there during the Winter months where it isnt so dreadfully hot and humid I would, and I still think I would suffer through that weather to be able to live down there. BTW, Habitat for Humanity plug here, if anyone is looking to volunteer they are STILL just DESPERATE for help down there. Rent has doubled and people who used to depend on just renting are struggling big time and Habitat is trying to help them. They lost about 60,000 homes form what ive heard and have barely made headway into that number. If youre a recent grad who cant find work, Americorp is a fantastic option. YOu dont even have to be a grad, you could just be a college student looking for a change or help with tuition and Americorp has some nice benefits too. Great resume builder too.

Future of AJ
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 02:02 PM) If we are 8-9 out at the all star break don't you think KW will still trade AJ to a contender? I think so. If we are 4 out I guess we stay with AJ and then deal him for nothing this offseason. I dont know if this was a mistake or not, and its not directed entirely at you, but its freakin frustrating how little people know about FO dealings. Between not getting how arbitration works, to contracts, etc, people need to know what they are talking about before typing some ridiculous statement. Im not saying everyone should know as much as GM, I know I am far from that (even if I do think once in a while that I could do better on deals), but people need to know the basics.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 07:52 PM) I think the more important question is if they are wsox fans, thats always the most important question when it comes to meeting anyone. I see we are thinking alike, but i would settle for just general baseball fans.

What jobs are growing in the DuPage and Chicagoland area?
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) An interesting thing is happening in IT. I know mainframe programming which has been around for a long time and continues to be used by a lot of companies. The first problem is that many of the programmers that know these languages are going to be hitting retirement ages within the next 10 years or so. The second problem is that there aren't very many younger programmers to take over simply because the languages aren't taught in schools anymore. IMO thats where outsourcing comes from. Not just from overseas, but American programmers will work for outsourcing companies and can be trained by them too. IT outsourcing is becoming a monster of its own. The biggest problem I see with it is that none of the companies that Ive heard of or worked with are considered very good, and they cost alot to hire. The biggest thing from that turnover is going to be losing the senior programmers and their leadership and knowledge from their experiences.

What jobs are growing in the DuPage and Chicagoland area?
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 11:22 AM) Not to mention the massive amounts of money it takes large companies to implement one of the big systems. Your talking about between 100 and 250 million to implement. Could be more for all I know. I've worked at a company that was migrating to SAP, spent 100M and than wrote it all off because they weren't even close. Now I'm at a company going to Oracle and the bill ain't cheap and we still won't be done with our world wide roll out for a while. Russ, that will be super beneficial. If I went back and was going to change anything, I'd probably look into that. I don't have the IT skills but what I do have is the finance/accounting side with a decent mix of IT and am hoping to get more involved in being the middle man between IT and Finance because it appears there aren't many people who know enough about both and one of the huge problem areas is that IT ends up creating something without the options finance wants or without the capabilities (or they do way too much, etc). And that is just one small area of the platform since SAP/Oracle are so much more than just Finance/Accounting tools. They handle the procurement, production, taxes, etc. The % of SAP/Oracle implementations that fail is mind boggling. Ive been hearing stories here about the first go at SAP and how it almost crumbled the company. But once it gets going the software is very impressive and can do so much like you said. Even though I am an IS/IT major (along with General Management) I am coming from the business side of it and dont have the programming skills of many of the engineers here on my team. I still can keep up with them in the more basic work (work that doesnt require months of training to know how to use) and I am more interested in the management part of IT. My goal right now is to start off as a technical engineer and work my way up in the management sides (as there is 2 basic paths, management or a more veteran programmer who leads projects but does not want to mess with the business side). If you get experience working with SAP and with your Accy/Fin background you will have alot of opportunities to go into project management or high level management. I know alot of people up high in IT management and the biggest thing they look for is the ability to get work done, and technical skills for managers is secondary. They need to know what is going on, but only at a high level.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) If you can get experience implementing Oracle or SAP you can do quite well. I'm getting involved in some of those type of projects right now, related to Oracle and It could open up some more doors for me (outside of the accounting realm). Totally agreed, right now Im getting experience at my internship with SAP and I know that I will have an abundance of opportunities because of this experience. Three letters can make your resume very impressive, SAP.

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) Don't go into software development/IT - those jobs are being outsourced like crazy to overseas. Eh, depends on what you want to go into. There are plenty of IT jobs now and the area is still growing heavily.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 11:26 AM) But you can say the same exact thing right after the Shadow comes out with regards to another up and coming super phone. At this current pace there's a phone that 'beats them all' coming out every 6 months. AT some point you just need to pick one out and use it until you're able to get an upgrade. Fair enough, but I also see this phone being heads and shoulders above the best phones right now, which to me is different than saying "this new phone is better, but not dramatically and therefore I should just go for the older one." Its like the difference between iphone 3Gs and 4g, if not more IMO.
