QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 28, 2008 -> 09:30 PM) Steve and russ, did you guys watch the finale or what? Just saw it. I must say, I was impressed, I think it sets up for a potentially good second season, alot to build on. What are your thoughts?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 11:15 PM) Spying on her electronic communications? Nope. She really has no right to privacy in that situation. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only parent that does that either. Doesnt mean its right. I personally think kids need to be given some privacy, as there are other methods to dealing with the situation rather than spying on her. YOu just b****ing and being an asshole about it probably doesnt scare her, as she can just lie her way out of it like she has done. Or so she believes that. Instead, take some more force in the situation and ground her, or take away myspace or what she does for fun until you get back what you think is fun (your game). Make her realize fairness, if she took your game then she should pay for it (literally, in that she should buy you a new one or you get something of hers). I know as a kid whenever my dad threatened to ground me or did some punishment like I had to work to recover something I did etc made me quite scared to do anything drastic or especially me losing what limited money I had anyways.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) Nope, their editors HATE Kenny Is there a history or reason behind this?

Does Morton have good stuff, because his minorleague stats kinda suck. Edit: Okay, nevermind, thanks for that post.

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:08 PM) Why would we trade Dye and then sign Dunn? Unless we were doing it for the spects, that's pretty much a similar player. Dunn is younger, has a career .381 OBP to go along with a .518 Slug%, so if you can trade Dye to fill the CF whole and/or a young starter and then sign Dunn to bat thrid you arent losing much offensively or defensively while filling holes, plus he wasnt offered arb.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:04 PM) I would add Dye's salary in there as well. Im not that surprised that Dye is expected to be traded, but to who and for what?
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:02 PM) But there are a few pretty good SP's out there that would only command 3 year deals...... Sheets? Lowe? I could definitely see Lowe coming here, but Sheets is a very intriguing (and risky) target.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:57 PM) The money saved will though. Got any names to throw out there? Furcal? Sabbathia? Im stretching on that last one, but we do need some pitching. Maybe Burnett?
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:21 PM) He's not. Do you mean this as is Vazquez isnt enough for him, or you actually know the package? Im just curious if you know whos coming back, and what that big spending that you mentioned that would follow would be.
-
So the four other players comments includes Logan? Meaning three coming back here? Am I reading that right? Guess Im just really curious to see what we got back.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:09 PM) I want Mike Gonzalez. That's all I know. Thread title updated. Gonzalez and some prospects sounds good. Better be pretty good prospects though.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 03:38 AM) That was a big mistake. We could have had Matt Garza there...the Twins outsmarted us on that one. Exactly my point, if we draft better like we are seeing now, these picks become very valuable. Instead of having to trade a Jenks or Dye package for a Garza like player you would already have him. Imagine if we had Garza, we would have so much more flexibility right now. If we can get more picks in that range and draft wisely it will benefit the team sooooo much.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 01:03 AM) Then maybe he can trade Broadway and McCullough for something useful. I tend to doubt it. It appears they will offer him arb. If he doesn't take it, it will be interesting to see how the draft picks pan out. Chances are, they won't. Really? Broadway and McCullough were joke picks, not worthy of the spot taht we took them. Yes, many prospects will fail, thats baseball, but alot will contribute in some way, especially with Kenny liking to trade them. Of course, they need to have talent still to have value, these higher picks allow the Sox to get those talented players, and with the new scouting/development people in place I expect much better drafting to help build for the future. Will it always work out? No. But I would rather have mroe draft picks, higher ones, because you increase not only the number of prospects you can trade, but also the likeliness that they will contribute on the big league team.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 12:57 AM) DA, you're better than that. Williams, probably more than any other GM in the league, has had a propensity to use prospects for already signed veteran players. As you said yourself, Borchard, for a time, was very highly thought of. Honel was going to be a stud. You are able to acquire these "assets" because of draft position. Williams doesn't seem to have a problem dealing talent if need be. You dont get a reward if you dont take a risk. You need to draft these guys and develop them, either for your team or trades to set up your team. Directed towards DA; while agreeing with Tony here.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 12:46 AM) Garland, results-wise, is Javy Vazquez without the strikeouts but a few more wins. Now Vazquez is owed $23 million the next 2 seasons. Cabrera supposedly is better than Garland, so would you offer Cabrera a 2 year $23 million deal? It doesn't matter who "won" the trade, both players likely will be elsewhere in 2009 and neither won the WS in 2008. As far as I'm concerned, its a wash. But if you get draft picks out of it too, I think it turns to the Sox favor. Even though both teams didnt win the WS, we have a chance to add an extra piece from the draft to further rebuild our farm system.

QUOTE (False Alarm @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) anyone ever paid for movers? i didn't know whether to tip them when i moved into my current house... YES! Most movers get paid squat for the work that they do. If you have a major moving company like Atlas etc, then a smaller tip is enough, maybe a lunch/water or gatorade would be nice. But I worked for Two Men and Truck and got paid $8 an hour for a ridiculously hard job. I can understand if you are not satisfied with the move, or are incapable of moving yourself yet have very little money (handicaps, elderly), but other than that you should tip, and say it when they arrive too, they will go faster and save you money if its by the hour. So many times I hooked up people by not charging for extra work like large tvs, or letting them use the wardrobe boxes for free, and we always docked about 15-30 mins off the bill and told them so, since that would save them about 25-50 bucks, and we rarely saw any of that back. We were paid by the hour, so whatever we billed them was what we got paid, so when we try and be nice to these people and they dont tip it drives you nuts. If you are satisfied with the work, in that they busted their arses off for the whole time while being courteous, this is a good frame to tip by: >2 Hours- $10 2-4 hours - $20 4-6 Hours- $30 6 Trust me, when you say a good tip is on the line to these guys, they will save your money, its like a second wind. You'll see some guys running from the truck to your house/apartment, taking an extra box, docking off the bill. In the long run, its saves the customer money and makes the mover happy. (And screw the company, if they paid more than the movers wouldnt be doing this, they pull in so much money a day its crazy).

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 06:21 PM) If the cost was Lance Broadway and they were paying 1/2 of his contract, why not. P.s. Edited topic title because I saw the name of this thread and figured somehow someone already had inked Tex. First part: I dont think that will happen, neither have much value but I just dont see the Red Sox wanting Broadway at all. And yea, I thought there was actual information saying that Tex signed. Many reports are still claiming that the Angels are in front with an offer around Miggy Cabrera's deal.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 11:20 PM) His VORP wasn't high enough. It's important for us all to take a step back every once in a while to remind ourselves that Carl Everett was not one of the best DH's in baseball during the 2005 season. It's duly important that we remind ourselves that Willie Harris, Geoff Blum, Pablo Ozuna, and Luis Vizcaino are all now fringe players, and that Politte, Hermanson, and Cotts have never come close to replicating their career seasons. We must make sure we do not celebrate these players to the point where we forget to remind ourselves that 2005 was nothing more than a fluke. Never said he was a top DH, but he was our DH on a World f***ing Series f***ing Champion team. They made it happen, and for that I will always have a soft spot for those players and what they did for us that year. I dont care if it was a fluke, looking back, there was a ton of career years like you said. Im just thankful that those guys came together and got the job done. Discrediting the accomplishments to me is foolish. Everett was not a bad player, not great, but not bad. He was an integral part of the team. Everyone that contributed to that team that year was integral, they all added to it somehow, some mroe than others, but that championship was a culmination of the success of every individual on that roster.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 11:00 PM) Sons of Anarchy tonight...wow. So I recently got into that show, its fantastic. i missed a bunch of episodes though, and cant find them online to watch. Anybody have suggestions? I usually use hulu.com, or the show website, but they only have eps 1,2, and skips to 8-current. To tonight's show, wow. Why couldnt Jax realize that Clay was up to something? He shouldve seen right through him and confronted him. AHHHHH...I love shows like this, but cant watch them that much because I always want them to see the other side that you can see, but they dont know. Its frustrating.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 11:21 PM) Wait till you get to college, man. I'm in the same boat as you I’ll drink socially, yeah, but the idea of just getting trashed and waking up with a splitting headache has no appeal to me. I actually did more s*** in high school than college. Having a girlfriend changes alot. When Im just with my guy friends then I will party. But I dont like going out and getting wasted around my girlfriend, I realize that one huge reason why I went and partied was to be around a ton of girls. I never got into pot, never had a huge effect on me, except once when I used a hookah. Really the only time it got to me though was when I had weed brownies, that s*** was nuts. I could never do anything hard though, I know that I would get paranoid and I really dont like that feeling and would get me in trouble.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 06:27 PM) What is this? 2001 when those guys were considered young? Yea, my point was that we could acquire young speed guys and these were just the ones off the top of my head, my bad. I know that most are around 30 now.
