QUOTE (DaGame2584 @ Oct 12, 2008 -> 10:57 PM) Oh please the Giants will NOT trade for Paulie or Derek. I don't think Paulie would even waive his NTC to go there. You never know if he adds on a couple years to Paulie's deal...

QUOTE (beck72 @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 05:36 PM) In looking at MLB trade rumors for the A's, they said the A's will be looking for power this offseason. Would they want Dye or Konerko? Get Duchscherer and Huston Street? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/09/as-to-seek-more.html They wont want the contracts coming with either.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 12:41 AM) He's going to be in much higher demand than that. Cabrera cost a durable starting pitcher who had a 4.23 ERA the pervious season...you aren't going to get Roberts for Fields and a couple mid tier prospects, because Fields himself is a mid tier prospect at this point in time. Fair enough, would Poreda and Fields be enough? Or would that cripple us too much? I personally am not a fan of Poreda, I think he will only be a bullpen arm, but he seems to be well regarded. Maybe 2 or 3 more prospects. I just like the thought of getting him becuase Im not that high on Fields/Poreda and would love us to get Roberts, to compete next year, and get those draft picks and use them well like we seem to be doing now.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 01:02 AM) Just get Roberts somehow...I want no part of Figgins. I see Roberts as another Cabrera like deal, where we get him and let him walk after the year because of the huge demand he will have in FA. I think he would be a great pickup if we could get him, maybe a Fields and a couple mid tier prospects in the like of Ely and someone else. Maybe a fourth. He would help tremendously, and then youre basically garunteed 2 draft picks if you dont resign him.

Owens in 2007 slugged .312 and in 2008 at AAA he slugged .316 Figgins had a down year last year when it came to slugging, only .318, but his career Slug is .387...
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 12:32 AM) Is his stolen base ratio that good? I know it's a different position, but seriously wouldn't Owens put up Figgins like numbers if he played all year? One triple? One home run? He did hve a good series vs. Boston I'll give him that. After his 0-for-5 he was an on-base machine. Owens was never close to an OBP like that or what Figgins has put up in his career. We may be lucky if Owens ever reaches .350, Figgins does that routinely. His SB ratio is about 75%, good but not great, just for comparisons sake, Pods gave us around 70% in '05.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 12:23 AM) Yes but every year all we hear about is Figgins, Figgins Figgins. Let's see he hit .276 this year in 116 games with a whopping 22 RBIs. He had 34 stolen bases and was caught 13 times. He's 30 years old. He hit one home run and had 14 doubles and one triple. One measly triple. He had 62 walks so his OBP was .367. He struck out 80 times. He scored 72 runs. Am I missing something here?? Oh I forgot, he's not on our team and we don't see him every day, so he's great. He gives you a legit leadoff man, I would love a .367 OBP from our leadoff spot, plus he brings some speed. I dont think he is ideal, but he is one of the best "somewhat" possible options out there. If he played 162 games, he woudlve scored just over 100 runs if you take the ratio...There just arent alot of quality options out htere for the Sox, and he is def. one of the best. Who know though if the Angels are actually willing to deal him, or for what cost though.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 11:14 PM) Is anybody else getting sick of hearing the name Joe Crede on our board? Or should I just get over it? f*** Joe Crede. Fixed. I could insert a s*** more names before I put in Chone Figgins. He actually brings alot to the table, only problem is that he would be hard to get.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 07:48 PM) Laser Cats owns all. I loved that when it came out, and I showed it to some classmates and they didnt laugh once. Meanwhile I was dying when they cocked the gun like they did.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 12:45 AM) I'd agree, it's just a matter of how you do it to get the guys you want. Shelby or Allen would be guys they would consider, but if you would trade for Beltre or Hardy, you'd have to have enough ammo to get them as well, and the Sox don't have much of it as is. Right now though I'd say that I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Brian Anderson ended up in Milwaukee. Dotel, Vasquez are also big possibilities to end up there, you might have enough MLB talent to get Hardy, and enough to go after a Roberts with prospects then... Not sure if I would want Hardy though, he's intriguing to me, but theres something about him that is making the back of mind say 'no' to him. I think its just that he was so awful early in his career, so I jsut have a sneaking suspicion that he wont hit well if we traded for him. I could be totally wrong, but I wouldnt give up as much as what might be required to acquire him, because there is such a need for shortstops right now that alot of teams will be offering packages to the Brewers. I think that I would just prefer going after other guys first, Figgins, Roberts, Beltre, just off the top of my head. I trust those guys more. And jsut for comparison, I have the same feeling with McLouth, I like the guy alot, but he had two decent seasons in a row now, but hes on the Pirates, not alot of pressure there. Basically, I look at these guys as having large risks when trading for them, especially considering the talent that will be required to get them.
-
If it makes your team better, then you should make the deal. Baseball is such a mystery sport, just look at the Tigers, that you jsut need to worry about yourself. Make the best trade that you feel helps your team compete. I would love to have Garza come this way, but I dont think Dye would be enough for him, maybe a mid prospect to go along.
-
Now, I have no idea what actual value these guys hold, but here we go.... Lineup Figgins 3b Roberts 2b TCQ RF Dye LF Thome DH Konerko 1b Ramirez SS AJ C Swisher CF Bench Anderson Wise Lucy/Armstrong Getz Bourgeouis (SP? geez thats a hard name to remember) Rotation MB GF JDanks Vasquez Richard/Contreras/Unexpected FA or in system replacement Bullpen Jenks Linebrink Thorton Carrasco Russell Broadway (maybe in system guys, like Link, etc) Trades Needed: For Figgins, we give up Poreda, and maybe another prospect like Shelby For Roberts, we give up Fields and some other prospects like Shelby, Ely, whatever Trade Dotel for prospects (those can be used to complement those other trades or we can keep them) Payroll would have to increase, but we have a ton of guys making league min, which helps a ton. Im not sure about Floyd, Jenks, and others with Arb tho, htat could affect alot when it comes to payroll and the options to mess around with it. To me, if we can get that team, is a serious WS contender, but then again, Im not sure what our prospects are actually worth, and what those teams will demand.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Sep 28, 2008 -> 02:20 PM) Yeah, the Twins got back a piece of crap for the best pitcher in baseball. Good point. Yea, they might have. Hes full of potential, but has yet to use it at any level yet. Just because the Twins traded for him doesnt mean he is god as some of you are making him out to be. Many scouts were starting to sour on him before he was traded because they kept thinking that one of these years he would produce like he could, but still hasnt.

Has D Young gotten bigger? I remember him being sort of skinny, maybe im mistaken...

Count should be 1-2, not 2-1 Man, tvants is slow, oh well better than gamecast.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 07:54 PM) YES IT IS A PROBLEM. We've wasted so many picks on guys like Borchard, Hummel, McCullough, Broadway, Fields, Ring and Honel. Not much there. So we have a few guys at the Carolina league. We have nothing at Charlotte and not much at Birmingham. There's a reason our farm system is rated in the bottom 10 in major league baseball. It blows. Did you not notice that we have guys who are on the rise? Next year Birmingham will have a lot of the players from W-S resulting in a crapload more talent, plus Poreda has been moving up alot. There is no doubt we wasted years of drafting and developing consistent, productive talent, but to say that we have none or that we wont have any next year is a joke. Just from the last two drafts we have had an influx of talent in the lower part of the system and its making its way up the chain.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) I'm certain the owner of the company appreciated your efforts in that regard. Hahaha, they made so much money off of us it wasnt even funny...plus they just screwed guys left and right, so really they had it coming.

All I can say is taht I was a mover over the summer, and it paid s*** for the work I had to do, so I was extra motivated when tips were on the line. Ive heard stories of movers taking off on the bill in agreement with the customer for a higher tip. We always shaved off 15-30 minutes off the bill (about $25-50) hoping to get a tip out of the customer, most of the time though it was just a "oh you guys are so nice, bye!" Im sorry but you cant argue that being a mover doesnt suck, and is one of the hardest jobs out there, especially considering labor intense jobs.
