QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 11:17 PM) THIS.TEAM.IS.DEAD ohhhhh nooooooeeeeessss. About 75% of this board should just stop watching/reading/listening to the sox until friday. Save yourselves the grief. Obviously you havent been here long enough for pessimism to seek through I think more interesting is that the Sox seem to be giving up themselves until Friday, thats what I am more concerned about.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 10:53 PM) I'm so tired of getting our heads beat in everytime we step in the state of Minnesota. I wish one person would f***ing stand up and say "f*** this, we can f***ing beat them, lets go play some f***ing ball like we f***ing can!!" Seriously, as a captain of teams before (of course only high school) its pretty easy to motivate guys, just get them focused and dont say s*** like "Oh theyre better than us, any wins we can get will be nice, but Im not expecting any." If you say taht youre screwed mentally, and this game is dependent on your mental state that any team going into any series with that attitude will get swept unless the other team gives up a win. Doesnt matter how talented you are.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 07:05 PM) You sure your parents didn't set it up for the insurance money? Sounds awfully fishy. Ya, my parents would never do that (and Im not just saying that, they had way too much personal family property in there and they just arent those people, theyre the ones who would punish me for sharing cds with friends because they technically considered it stealing or sneaking in a friend on the subway by having a bunch of people go thru on one ticket swipe.) I really think it sounded fishy also, so Im banking on the movers having a huge part if not all of it on them. I was a mover over the summer, so I know how most of these guys think, and although I never worked with guys who would actaully go through with this I know that the financial outcast is driving alot of guys to atleast consider something like this. Its just really sad...I mean, why burn it? Take all our furniture, whatever, we can replace that wiht insurance...but burn all my art projects, my baseball trophies, my favorite books, all our records that we kept in house, photos, family heirlooms (like my grandpa's american flag for service in WW2), all that stuff is gone, its freakin ridiculous. Some people jsut dont have any heart at all...

I have been living in Ann Arbor for the past 5 years or so, and currently am at U of Illinois U-C, and my parents are now moving back to Chicago for my dad's job. So tehy had the moving company pack the truck and drive it down to Chicago just this past weekend, and was scheduled to unload it on Thursday. So they store the truck in their storage area. Last night someone broke into the area, broke through the side doors of the truck, and its unclear whether they stole anything from the truck or not (I believe they did but have no idea) and burned the rest down. By the time the firemen arrived and put out the truck everything was ruined by a combination of smoke, fire, and water. So now im jsut shocked that everything that I didnt pack for college is gone. Including my White Sox World Series jacket!!! I hate Mondays... Who has a story topper? *The worst part is that Im not even that upset about most of the stuff I lost, like I wont miss alot, but I will miss all of hte stuff I had from being a little kid and everything. Meanwhile, all I can think of is relating this to the Scrubs episode where Elliot had her truck stolen...

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 10:52 PM) Which goes back to the whole Chris Young trade again. He's young, dynamic and affordable. He does everything well besides throw. 46 doubles. Everyone will just throw out his OPS and OBP and say he's horrible, but I don't buy that argument. Obviously, he's a much different player than Ichiro, but I am not convinced we're so much better off with Javier Vazquez. At worse, he's Mike Cameron. And that's a lot better than our CF situation has been for the last three years. It's like just looking at Tadahito Iguchi's stats in 2005 on paper. They don't come close to telling the entire story. With Ichiro, how many errors did he force on the infield with his speed? How many pitchers gave up RBI's because they were concentrating on Ichiro at 1B or 2B? How many runners didn't advance because of his presence and arm in CF and RF? How many times did he move a runner over successfully? Don't get me started about our inability to bunt. Listening to both games today, it struck me the way that most teams' announcers say "and they're off to the races" as soon as a somewhat speedy guy gets on against anyone besides Buehrle. Mauer, you simply don't run on that guy. I kind of miss the days of Karkovice or even Miguel Olivo...when Harrelson was hyping him to be something he wasn't. But it was fun while it lasted. So a first place team isnt fun anymore? You would rather go back to having Olivo on your team, calling out the franchise and such as he did in KC. How many Ichiro type players are out there? Chris Young, though talented, is not a great player. There was always a huge question about his ability to make contact, he already has 158 strikeouts this year. I look at that trade as very even for both teams.

MIA's Paperplanes is catchy as hell, i know its pretty "old" now, but I cant get it out of my head.

So Im trying to go visit my girlfriend up in Grand Rapids, MI for next weekend, and im looking at bus tickets to go to chicago where I can pick up my car and drive the rest of the way. But they are well priced over $20 each way, just to chicago. Seems pretty pricey to me, so is this standard fare? am I getting ripped off? is there a secret promo I can use? any advice? Thanks guys.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 05:11 PM) But aren't all our "prospects" at the lower levels? IMO, you're not really a prospect until you atleast start producing at high A. The whole point of being a prospect is based on 'ifs' so no, you can be a prospect at any point in the system. How good of a prospect depends though, you may not be viewed as anything at this stage, as all sorts of factors weigh in on how people look at a guy, but potential is a huge deciding factor in how good a prospect is at this level. SOme of the highest touted draft picks play in these leagues/levels first, so they are still highly regarded prospects.

QUOTE (SnB @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 06:06 PM) A U of I priest was arrested for dealing coke.......odd I heard about that on the bus last night, some other student mentioned it. Very weird, atleast it wasnt another child abuse story.

QUOTE (Baines3 @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 11:46 PM) I hope we can go on a winning streak while the Twins go on a losing streak. Ummm, duh? Sorry to be so harsh here, but really, shouldnt you always hope for that when youre battling a team for the playoffs?

QUOTE (whitesox91403 @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 03:37 PM) Is he really this bad? How can he be a 1st round pick if he is that awful? I believe he was a highly regarded pitcher as a sophomore and was injured and was only okay as a junior, but the sox drafted him hoping he would regain his form and become a top pitcher again, I could be wrong on much of this info, anyone with a stronger collegiate baseball background want to help out?

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) There is an old saying in latin american scouting, "you don't walk off the island". Scouts down there simply don't tend to notice hitters that draw walks, because it's not sexy. They notice guys that get a lot of hits, can field, can run, and so on. I think another factor is the culture of baseball down there is just different, and the walk isn't valued as much. One more thing is you generally don't tend to see as many hulking, power hitters coming from latin america, and those kinds of guys often tend to cause more fear in pitchers and thus draw more walks. dang, beat me too it

I went to a baseball fall league a couple years ago, and a guest speaker was the brother of the coordinator, and the speaker was Harrison (forgot the first name but apparently was a high draft pick back in the day and a respected hitting coach who is hired to work with prospects not to mention a big time college coach for a while) and he said a great line: "You dont walk off the island" Thats the philosophy that they go by.

So in my Speech Communication 101 class we had to give speeches about ourselves to start the class off, and this girl came up and started talking about how she loved the Republican party, and as an independent (mainly because I feel too young and dont know enough about the parties to really justify picking one, and I would much rather make my decisions based on how I believe rather than a party belief etc.), I was excited to hear what she had to say regarding the GOP. I have never really talked to a real GOP backer, except for one teacher whom I loved to talk to about politics, and thought it would be great to learn about why she loved the party when everyone around her is a democrat (when you live in college towns as I have its hard not to be surrounded by dems). What I learned from her is: 1) If youre not Republican, youre not American. 2) Her parents were Republican and therefore she was too, and cried when Clinton won even though it was way back in elementary school. 3) She loves Pres. Bush because he's really cool and cute. 4) Loves the Iraqi war, no reason given. 5) Hates Obama, she gets sick even at the mention of him, and cant shop at Hollister anymore even though its her favorite store because they were selling Obama shirts, 8 of them!! 6) She basically said "Im a tool, Im a tool, a tool, tool, tool, an unbelievably annoying tool" (yes, its that guy from Scrubs) Im worried about our future...

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 11:34 PM) You said he was washed up. Now you want him batting 4th. You're Karl Rove and Bill O'Reilly all mashed into one. I think its more of playing the hot hand to try and replace TCQ for now, so who ever is playing the best should be up in the order to help the offense out

If MB is gonna go deep hes going to need to get in a groove real soon and have some quick innings, hes already at 43 pitches through 2 innings.
