  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 07:30 PM) More weirdness happening with AJ involved with that Konerko hit. I cant see the game on tv, can you elaborate?
  2. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 05:53 PM) Why do people automatically assume those that oppose the Cabrera trade still want Garland here? I've said many times I want Garland traded for a package of younger players. Perhaps we could've gotten something worth a damn at the deadline with those players. Cabrera's defense hasn't been as good as advertised and is around Uribe's defensive season in 2007 (which was probably his worse) and the fact is his OPS is only 10 points higher than Uribe's last year. His OBP was a crappy .326 coming into today's game. That's Jerry Owens last year. In 2006 we railed all over an injured Scott Podsednik for putting up a .330 OBP. At this time in 2007 that POS, mistake from the signing, Darin Erstad had a line of .266/.324/.354/.678. That's unacceptable, and all those guys combined made less money than Cabrera and they kept their mouths shut. So, who's your shortstop? Who's your leadoff man? Be realistic about it, to get somebody better youre going to have to give up alot of talent, talent that we may not have been able to match.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) They would be absolutely out of their minds to not offer Cabrera Arbitration. He'll pull in probably $10 million a year or more from someone next offseason over a couple years. Even if he accepted arbitration for around $10 million, that would still be a good deal, he's not the best out there, but look who would be available...not to many guys out there that will be worth the money or theyre going to get huge contracts or stick with their teams. One more year of OC wouldnt be that bad, hes still a good shortstop and at $10 your paying him right around market price, except just for a year.
  4. THe spot on Gameday shows it was crushed, can anybody watching confirm that? Its amazing the power that he generates for his size.
  5. I must say, that looks great! I feel for those guys, I was a mover over the summer, hardest f'in job I hope to ever have. And it paid crap as well, I hate our economy and making high school grads looking for college money scouring over awful jobs... Just one note on this, ALWAYS tip the movers, and say it beforehand that you are going to, and maybe buy them lunch or something, I know that for me this made me go alot faster, your stuff suddenly seemed like mine and I would be alot more careful (not that i wouldnt be anyways, but you just get so much more motivated when a tip is on the line). Oh, and stay the frick out of the way, one way to really piss off a mover is to tell them how to do their job or stand by them the whole time.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 10:31 PM) A patch for the next 3 years? Haha, yea, but unless he learns how to draw more walks I think he wouldnt be used properly in that position, if we have a guy who gets on base at a good clip like .350-.370 and isnt a big stealer, then he would be great with the amount of hits that he gets. A base stealer may hurt him because personally I dont think he has the bat control of a guy like Iguchi to be effective. Looking back I wouldve loved that trade for Duch if it was at all possible. (or Street as well, but I dont like him that much and Duch has surprised me by staying strong so far).
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 10:29 PM) Here's an option...put Ramirez in the 2nd spot in the lineup! For what we have right now I wouldnt really mind that, but its more of a patch than a fix I think, atleast until we get a better leadoff hitter.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 10:29 PM) No doubt in my mind Fields was going to be traded by July 31st, but then Crede had to go and injure his back again. Any guesses for what?
  9. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 10:24 PM) I don't understand how this can solely rest on the #1 and #2 hitters???? If we are 8th in the AL in OBP, how does that rest only on Cabrera and AJ? It doesnt, but its a big part. They have the most oppurtunities to be on base for Thome, Dye, Quentin to hit in, so basically they key the offense most of the time. But that doesnt mean the rest of the offense can be deadbeats like Crede has been recently, or Swisher basically has been all year, and Konerko also.
  10. Not to be a defeatist or a pessimist, but I think Ill go do homework since I can basically tell how this game is gonna go...
  11. I feel like Fransisco and Gutierrez kill us everytime we play them. I havent seen to much of us vs. the Indians this year, but i remember the two years before that they jsut mashed vs. us, maybe im wrong though.
  12. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 07:58 PM) I agree with the sentiments of your argument, but Lee isn't 19-2 because he just gets ahead in counts... the guy has great control and some real sick off-speed stuff. Swisher hitting below .200 against lefties, yikes Still has a .753 OPS vs them compared to .768 overall, so its not that much worse, the batting average sucks still....
  13. QUOTE (Felix @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 01:14 PM) Quentin is heads and heels above everyone this month. It's not even close. As for the pitcher, I'd go with DJ as he's been a huge help with Linebrink being out. Jenks had a great month, but it was a bit more unexpected from Carrasco so I'd have to give the edge to him. Voted for Quentin as well. As for Carrasco, I had to vote for him because he stabilized the bullpen, and I actually think he has a harder job in that he usually comes in with guys on base. Jenks didnt have one inherited runner, I think that makes it easier to pitch.
  14. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) So would a team have to give up a draft pick to sign Uribe if he was a "B" free agent, because I'm assuming they would, and that'll probably scare off a few teams to say the least. No, only Type A teams give upa draft pick, the White Sox would gain a compensatory "sandwich" pick which is just an added pick in the draft.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 05:16 PM) In fact, in this instance can you really blame Hester. He's scheduled to make like 425K. Yes thats more than most of us make but given that he's the top performer at his position (EVER) and now opening camp as one of the starting WR's I would expect to get paid more. Especially when he's yet to get a "set for the rest of his life" deal. I expect a short term type of extension where the Bears give him more money up front and agree on negotiating again a year or two from now (basically a 2 year extension from his current deal with a good chunk of guaranteed money) when he's proven himself more at the WR spot (in which case the team will step up and pay him like a top WR). He's apparently asking for 6yrs 45M. Although I have never been in that position, where I could be making millions of dollars per year and instead am making hundreds of thousands, I would like to believe that people would honor their contracts. You signed it, so deal with it. You knew when putting your name on that paper that you were going to get paid that much, under the rules of the contract. If you didnt like it, dont sign it, or you shouldve changed the terms of the contract when writing it up. Honor your contract. Thats my point of view. And yes teams can release guys under contract too, but they still have to pay that money, and if a guy is underperforming, then that team is stuck with that contract, they cant renegotiate with the player just because they feel its unfair.
  16. For the president stepping in argument, I would like to point out that its best to let the market dictate where it goes. Its a capitalist market, the best invention will make the most profits (hypothetically). Just look at HD DVD and Bluray, the president didnt come in and say we all need one of them and dont buy the other, the market dictates who will survive.
  17. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) No American Legion league around? No fast pitch league? Well im not sure if im trying to walk on at Illinois, I have no idea how hard it is to walk on. My coach has said I have DI talent, and I led my team offensively this year, and hit over .450 in a pretty good conference. But its Michigan baseball so I know the high school talent level isnt that good, so I have no idea what to expect. Im moving this summer to the Chicago area, no idea where yet, and with going to college Im not sure what teams will be available to me.
  18. My team just lost is districts today, man its tough to go out, especially when you know that youre never playing for that team again and may not play baseball at a competitive level ever again. Bad day today.
  19. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Apr 30, 2008 -> 06:10 PM) Tell me this is not f'd up. This tv ad comes on for VisitMyrtleBeach.com, shows, you know, people smiling, eating, splashing in the water -- predictable stuff. Until they switch to a shot of a shark. Not a cute, tiny shark. A big, mf'n shark with big damn teeth. After that, people splashing around in the water, a guy on a jet ski. Naturally. How soon can we get there? Haha and my class just finished Jaws yesterday, by the way, that really is a fantastic movie.
  20. I met an ex sox draftee a week or so ago, really nice guy, down to earth, and a little pissed at his luck too, he was a pitcher and tore his acl or something like that. I felt really bad, he went to the same school as Ryan Howard, competed vs. him in high school, and talked about hoe Howard really became the beast that he is (Howard walked on to Southwest Miss. State while he had a scholarship). He also talked a bit about how in the minors college players who come out as seniors get screwed in the draft and on the field, one injury and your done. Of course he is now an assistant JV coach for the rival school across town, but still, a real nice guy. Names Brian Keating I believe, he only told me his first name so i went researching to find where he was drafted, and its been awhile since I saw it but I beleive it was around round 23.
  21. QUOTE (DonnyDevito @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) There's a difference. There is the intimidation factor with pitchers, especially when you have one of the best curve balls in baseball and a 90mph fastball. Uribe isn't close to as good of a player as juanita is. Fixed
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) Probably, but I've always been a backer. What is he like personality wise?
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 05:19 PM) Huh? Its only W-S's 2nd game of the season, how could Poreda have had a previous start? MILB says he's yet to pitch this year. I think you misread it, maybe he meant last year's first start for Poreda was bad.
  24. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 10:19 AM) Outscored 44-15 in the first 7 games, averaging just over 2 runs a game... Say what you want about "its still early" blah blah, there are some pretty obvious gaping holes in the 2008 Detroit Tigers. Reminds me alot of us last year, saying the big bats will come around but they never did. Granted they have a crapload more talent then we did, but their pitching will bring them down much like what happened to us.
