QUOTE (Jeremy @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 07:14 PM) Yeah, not properly cherishing a mediocre performance. I'll resign my Sox fandom in shame pronto. Well, there's a difference between having fond memories of certain contributions and claiming a player was a fantastic performer when he wasn't. I'll let people choose their own emotions about the players on that team, that's not my place. Personally, I love that Geoff Blum hit that home run but in general I feel pretty indifferent about a career utility player who had about 100 plate appearances for my team and didn't perform spectacularly on the whole. But everyone looks for different things in their players. There's the objective and the subjective. The claim that Everett was a crux in that World Series when he probably wasn't one of the top 15 contributors fails on an objective level. If people want to adore him because he made some contributions during a great season that's perfectly fine with me. He was only the starting DH and what, #3/4 hitter?

QUOTE (MO2005 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 04:42 PM) What is this??? Seriously this is a waste of a post! So if Kenny went with the posts people made are team would look like this Hinske Ramirez Quentin Thome Dye Konerko Varitek Pierzynski Getz Fields Colon Garcia Buehrle P. Martinez Danks etc. etc. We NEED SPEED!!! YOUTH!! Who is saying that? Hinske would be an acceptable bench player, not more. Varitek would be a good platoon for AJ, but at the cost most posters here agree hes too much money and probably wants to start still. Right now, Fields and Getz are a couple of the best options for their respective positions, adding youth and speed like what you claim to want. Colon is still a big if, Garcia the same. Pedro is right there with them. One may be signed as a 5th starter but the Sox I dont believe give out incentive laden deals very often. And where's Floyd in the rotation? You want speed? you want youth? Were are you going to get it from? At what cost? What other abilities will that/those player(s) have? Sure we can assemble a team on youth, get the Nook Logans, the Wily Taveras, the Corey Pattersons, Joey Gathrights, we can get a team of that. It wont be good, but we can could potentially get that. We could become the fastest team, and be awful, or we could strive to become balanced, have a couple big boppers, some high OBP guys, a little speed here or there or just guys who can score from second on singles and doubles. We need line drive hitters, not just pull and lift, but its nice to have that feared hitter too. You need balance, which means that yes we should add some speed, but not to the point where its going to make the team worse. Dont acquire speed just because, acquire it along with line drive hitters, high OBP to utilize the speed.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) Great question. I'd like to know as well. Maybe Cyber Monday. I dont think you can really go wrong with any of these times, maybe just a couple dollar difference. The biggest thing is that technology will get cheaper, so buying the same laptop now and for back to school for the next academic year will be different. Plus, from what Ive seen Macbooks dont really go on sale to much anyways. There are a ton of laptop deals out now. check out: dealsofamerica.com They have a bunch of links to laptop deals from Dell, HP, and any stores with sales.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 12:20 PM) Maybe they'll now give us Billy Butler, who will make up for our losing out on Viciedo. Immobile but the potential to rake. I still think DeJesus, Teahen and Gathright are likely casualties. The problem is that Guillen is really a DH, masquerading as a RFer. I do think that things are really changing economically in baseball when the Royals can afford to take on Meche, Guillen and now Crisp with the downturn we're in. And the Red Sox are the ones shedding salary here. Maybe Maier in LF/CF. Wait, did he sign with someone?

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 12:14 PM) From what I remember (I've never had one but I know people that have) they are pretty decent. Just don't get HP. Terrible. My girlfriend, whose uncle works at hp, has tremendous trouble with hers. Shes had to send it in atleast twice already, shes only had it since the end of summer. She barely does anything on it too. Their customer service sucks too. I have a Dell, and have been pretty impressed so far.

Green River is fantastic. I used to get it when I was on vacation at my cottage. It was a treat, and basically just Sprite with added sugar and maybe a bit diff. flavoring. MMMMMM Im actually a fan of Wendy's grilled chicken wraps, though they may be mroe than $1.50 now, but I prefer the grilled chicken to fried chicken.

To RockRaines video post: That play was just filthy. I was so embarrassed as a fan when that happened. I dont even think #4 got a hand on him. And Illinois has to be embarrassed about this year, just no heart. I miss Leman. -
QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) That is really cool. I'm wondering when the home version will be available. ^^^^^^^^ Green Probably tastes as good as astronaut ice cream.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 05:32 PM) I would much rather have Beckham play a year at triple-a at 2b. Why not go get a 1 year stop gap in Brian Roberts while were waiting for him to develop. Because you ahve to give up good young talent for that to happen.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 04:08 AM) Well he is getting up there in age, and she's only 16, maybe the Red Sox can outbid everyone else for her?

QUOTE (Jeremy @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 04:55 AM) Really? People think of Everett as a crucial part of that team? I forget he was even on it. I'd say there's no way he was one of the dozen most important players on the team. He was probably the worst regular on the team. That year was one of the highlights of my life but I sometimes resent the fact that every single player on the team is now beloved. I disagree on another account too. My recollection is that Everett's value was quite low, the second time we acquired him. That's consistent with the fact that the Expos covered $800,000 of his salary in the deal. That suggests Kenny viewed Rauch as a throw-in and probably could've included any number of middling prospects in the deal. We traded Rauch just two months after he infamously left the clubhouse early after a bad start and Kenny flipped out so may take has always been that Kenny let his emotions get the best of him and was eager to sell low on Jon after that incident. Any time a player walks out on a team, they are going to have problems with management/FO. KW was basically forced to deal him because of the situation that Rauch created. Its not like he was so talented that the Sox had to keep him to compete, no, he was a prospect that wasnt even bluechip. Rauch is the culprit here, not KW. If the player has the balls to take the whipping that the opposing team did to him, then theres no problem. Who wants a pitcher who leaves early from the game because he cant handle the loss or his failure. I like emotion, I think its integral for the game, but you have to keep it in check, and Rauch presented himself as a mental midget to the extreme. In regards to Everett, he was very important to that team. That 2005 team was about contributions, big and small, from all 25 players. Just look at Timo, I remember one hit he had that was the weakest bloop I have ever seen to score the winning run in a regular season game. Or Blums magical homerun. These guys didnt contribute much during the regular season, but they gave us these small moments that really added up to the culmination of a championship season. To say that your starting DH didnt have an impact is nuts. Every player on that team was crucial, how can you say that another player wouldve hit Blum's homer, or Scotty Pods? Or Konerko's? Or Uribe's great defense? Every player contributed somehow to the final result of a championship.

Okay, so its not a really high level league, but found it to be pretty cool that this girl can pitch. Good luck to her, and that must be a crazy knuckler. -Yahoo Linky

QUOTE (Shadows @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 03:06 PM) What? Its not a no brainer at all If you offered all 3 of them to every team in the league and said pick one of these guys, not ONE team would pick Danks over Zambrano or Coles. No chance. Well, financially alot of teams would pick Danks over those two. In terms of talent/production, Danks looks only to be improving, already shwoing he can shine in the tougher league. Hamels has been VERY good, so I would see him as the #1 choice. Zambrano has been a bit overrated in my opinion, he has so much talent, but lets his head get in his way and just explodes sometimes. I think Danks would win over him if the team actually does the research on the guys, noticing that Zambrano gets alot out of name-recognition.

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 12:14 AM) He's a very good defensive first baseman who won't even hit 35 homeruns a year or hit for anything resembling a great average. There's nothing about Mark Teixeira that calls for even a hundred million dollar contract. .290/.378/.541/.919 career line including his "decent" rookie season. Thats not too shabby at all. He's averaged about 34 homers a year, and is still only 28. In comparison, Carlos Lee has a career .849 OPS, plays a pretty awful outfield, and averaged 28 homers a year. Plus, he signed his 6/100 million contract at age 31. I think with today's market, Tex deserves $100mill +

Im taking macroeconomics at u of i, and its my first econ class ever, so im still learning alot about the whole system and everything. But, what I really want to know (because im getting this impression lately), is if all this money is actually helping us, or just keeping us afloat for while until we eventually fall into a depression? It seems like we place a bunch of money in one sector, than another demands money to stay afloat, and then another, looks like the system is just crashing and will sooner or later anyways.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 11:17 PM) 32 years old, not all that good and the Orioles will be looking for Closer value in return for a guy who probably shouldn't be closing. Fair enough, I didnt realize he was that old, guess I shouldve looked that up first.

What about Sherrill from the O's?

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) .880 OPS from Holliday next year, I'm calling it now. That seems pretty fair considering the difference in parks. Side Note: He had 28 stolen bases last year, with only 2 CS. Thats a nice bonus to his stats

"Ken Rosenthal chimes in. The deal may not be finalized for about 48 hours. Players discussed over the weekend: Carlos Gonzalez, Huston Street, and Smith. Rosenthal says the A's do not plan to flip Holliday or trade him in July." -MLBtraderumors.com Hmm, if the A's are planning on competing next year I would think they would need Street, and Gonzalez is a pretty highly touted prospect, seems like the A's are sending over more than I thought they would.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 04:03 PM) There's almost no way Holliday won't be a type A free agent, so that has to be part of it as well. Im guessing three prospects, each one a quality prospect but not a stud, like Smith, Gonzalez, Carter, and maybe a player like Sweeney/Murton (young guys not necessarily a prospect, and im not saying all of those guys, just some combination or a package of guys like that)
