  1. That's it .. I am tired of the Vizcaino fan club. Time to rip thru his numbers. What part of a 3.84 ERA over 68 IP impresses you? What part of a .278 BAA & a 1.50 WHIP impresses you? What part of 6W, 5L, & only 8H over 68 appearances impresses you? It's a 4 team season now so let's look at how he stacks up against the rest: v BOS: .320OBP .513SLG .833OPS 1L vs v LAA: .380OBP .489SLG .869OPS vs Now I don't know if it's dawned on you yet but these are our likely opponents on a road to the WS. That doesn't inspire confidence for a White Sox fan. Marte is a no-brainer. You can't go to battle with just 1 LH RP. You must have at least 2. But with the success of Hermy, Politte, Jenks, Vizcaino is NOT needed. Having El Duque & BMac on the roster for emergency long relief & starts is the wise move.
  2. Dump Vizcaino. What has he done more than El Duque? WAY TO GO FRANK!!! I HOPE YOU GET YOUR RING !!!
  3. Vizcaino svcks. I can count at least a dozen times this year with the game on the line he caved under pressure. With respect to Marte .. that was a good pitch .. Hafner is one of the best in the game. Marte pitched good today. El Duque deserves to be on the roster & in the pen. He's an arm that is lofty in experience & won't cave under pressure.
  4. I just heard. Unreal. He's benching 6 regulars (Kong, Gooch, Uribe, AJ, Rowand, & Dye). Then again our offense is nothing to shout about. Change might be good. I've got to believe if it's close you'll see substitutions quickly. Go Mark!
  5. For a team & a manager that believes pitching & defense wins championships BMac is staying & Vizc is left off. As for the bench: Timo, Harris, Ozuna, Widger are sure things. Blum probably over Anderson.
  6. I'm under that impression as well but I can't find a source to back it up. The closest thing I could find is Scenario 7# deciding the ALDS: 1) H2H between 2 clubs 2) best intradivision win % 3) best intraleague win % 4) best 2nd half intraleague win % 5) include post-season win % H2H betw NYY & CWS is a tie so CWS win best intradivision. H2H betw BOS goes to BOS. If we don't win at least 1 we can lose the ALHF.
  7. It was a recent change. In the past the loser of the Div Champ game went home. I didn't say I didn't believe it. I said a better source was needed to verify it. I found that source & now I agree. Anyways what matters to the CWS now is ALHF adv. CWS & BOS can both finish with 96 wins or CWS & NYY can both finish with 97 wins. So what decides ALHF?
  8. http://sports.ign.com/articles/451/451166p1.html This is the best source I could find. CWS 96-66, CLE 96-66, BOS 96-66, NYY 94-67 Scenario #1: Tie for Div Champ & win % > win % of either 2nd place team (NYY, OAK) then the Div Champ is decided by past performance (H2H, etc.). This is the scenario by which the CWS clinched the ALC. CWS 97-65, CLE 95-67, BOS 95-67, NYY 95-67 Scenario #5 Tie for Div Champ & win % = win % of either 2nd place team (CLE, OAK) then 2 game playoff: Div Champ game, WC Champ game. * This was a recent change. In the past there was just a Div Champ game & the loser went home.
  9. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/arti...f_tie_breakers/ This article neglected the fact that there is only a 1 gm playoff to decide a division when the front runner for the WC finishes with a better record than the two divisional opponents. The reason being is that the loser of that 1 gm playoff goes home. They do not have a chance at the WC. The CWS eliminated that possibility & that is why they clinched the ALC on Thurs. With that being said a better source is needed for a 3-way tie.
  10. NYY have been nearly as hot as CLE the past two months. If BOS & CLE go 2-1 this weekend then NYY win the ALE & BOS & CLE play for the WC. CLE will NOT have a better record than either NYY or BOS so H2H will decide the ALE. NYY will have a 10-9 adv in that scenario. If BOS beats CLE we would play BOS in the opening round. If CLE beats BOS we would play either NYY or LAA (I think it will be LAA). LAA needs to sweep the Rangers in Texas to reach 95 wins. I think that's doubtful. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/standings/grid BOS vCWS 4-3, vCLE 4-2, vLAA 6-4, vNYY 7-9 LAA vCWS 6-4, vCLE 5-3, vNYY 6-4 NYY vCWS 3-3, vCLE 4-3
  11. The article suggests anything but that. It emphasizes a "zero tolerance" policy in place with the Church. It doesn't' condemn the Cardinal (as some of you have). Instead it highlights what has changed over the past few years under the new stricter policy. What I find disturbing in some of the comments is this mental delusion that somehow a conspiracy exists between the authorities & the Church to shuffle these priests around & to hide the evidence. In light of recent scandals that have crippled the archdiocese of Boston & led to the closing of many parishes affecting 10's of 1000's of Catholics in America I can't imagine how any one with a strong sense of logic could conclude that a conspiracy is more plausible than a closer working relationship :rolly I believe that if there is just cause to proceed with criminal charges against some of these priests the Church will be most helpful in working with the authorities. If there is not just cause then there is no reason for the Church to publicly malign these now ex-priests. Furthermore, if the authorities feel these ex-priests should be registered as sex-offenders I am sure the Church will offer whatever help it can in that effort. I will go one step further on your "sex crimes against children are unforgiveable". I believe any inproper action of a sexual nature whether it be serious or in jest is unforgiveable. I adamantly oppose USSC Ginsberg's belief that the age of consent should be lowered to 12. In my opinion it should be raised to 21. As a society we were wrong with a min drinking age of 18. That's why we raised it to 21. The data proved that young adults could not drink responsibly at 18. So why should we asusme they can engage in sex responsibly at 18? We shouldn't. That's why it should be raised to 21 & any improper action prior to that age should not be tolerated.
  12. I agree Moronotti makes the Sun-Times many times worse than Cubune. How many times did Moronotti write about the CWS after a win? How many times after a loss? It seemed like he was taking delight in the loses of late. The Times should fire his butt. There are many more objective & interesting sports reporters out there.
  13. Speaking of STL have you noticed how ESPN all but ignored their free-fall in Sept? The CWS can still finish with the best record in MLB in 2005.
  14. 1 more win gets us ALHF adv. So yes it's important.
  15. All hail the great state of TEXAS! Does the Chronicle still publish it's annual piece on that group that still considers TEXAS to be an indie? I was living in Houston years back when a storm far worse than Katrina slammed into Galveston. The city was well prepared when it hit. I expected it would be again.
  16. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/gamelog?playerId=2370 5-4 vs LAA (1R) 6-5 vs CLE (1R) 11-8 vs KC (1R, 2RBI) 4-3 @ DET (1R, 1RBI) 5-3 @ OAK (1RBI) 10-8 vs TAM (2R) 6-4 vs TAM (1R, 3RBI) 7-2 vs TAM (1R, 3RBI) 1-0 @ CLE (1RBI) 7-5 vs DET (1R, 1RBI) He was a BIG lift at a time when Jurrasic was struggling badly.
  17. QUOTE: ... nor was information immediately available if any had been charged criminally. res ipsa loquitur - 1) The quote does not include "minors". That is mentioned ONLY by the staff reporter. 2) Out of the 14 cases, 1 is dead, & only 2 are pending canonical trials. 3) Wrt to the remaining 11, Each individual no longer can participate in public ministry, present himself as a priest. There in nothing in the link that suggests they can continue to function as a priest in another archdiocese. That is something you conjured up. :rolly The sexual misconduct could be referring to relations with other priests or nuns. Only the staff reporter mentioned "minors". More information is required to conclude it was in reference to minors. Is it a crime for sexual misconduct to occur between adults? Depends on the circumstances. Innocent until proven guilty. That's what America stands for. You should try to remember that.
  18. 2005 NYY: Aug 19W-10L, Sep 18W-8L 2005 CLE: Aug 19W-8L, Sep 18W-7L 2005 BOS: Aug 18W-9L, Sep 15W-12L 2005 LAA: Aug 14W-13L, Sep 18W-9L 2005 CWS Aug: 12W-16L, Sep: 16W-12L There was never a choke. We had a killer Aug. With losing Thomas in late July we played about as good as the 2004 team. We rebounded like years past & played a division leader pace in Sept. CWS vs LAA: 2-2 @LAA, 2-4 @CWS CWS vs BOS:1-2 @BOS, 2-2 @CWS CWS vs NYY: 2-1 @NYY, 1-2 @CWS I would like to face BOS in the ALDS. We can make that happen by beating CLE.
  19. Since 2000 the White Sox have consistently tanked in Aug & risen in Sept. Much of this was due to the loss of a major at bat in the lineup. By Sept the lineup figured out to score minus the big bat. 2005 was no different. 2005 CWS Aug: 12W-16L, Sep: 16W-12L. You can accept the national media to overlook this but for a local guy? He's just a Cub PR tool .. most of the time.
  20. I think this is a good time to mention : STL 97-62, CWS 96-63. How long has STL held the best record in MLB? Why hasn't the media been beating on them? I hope the CWS take it to CLE & recapture the best record in MLB to further add insult to injury on Moronitti's Cub prejudice.
  21. Can White Sox win a postseason series? ESPN panel: 3 NO, 1 YES Cowlishaw impressed with the CWS road record. He's convinced that record is not a fluke.
  22. Let's make no mistake about it. The most important guy in the post-season is Jurassic. Everyone else needs to play their best but Jurassic needs to get HOT for this team to go the distance.
  23. I added Anderson, but it can go either way. The final bench player needs to be an OFer. WIth Crede & Ozuna I don't need Blum. I need a better bat. I don't think you should ignore El Duque's history of post season success. He's not deserving of a start but he's definitely deserving of a spot in the pen.
  24. The good: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/ http://cbs.sportsline.com/ http://sports.yahoo.com/ http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/index.jsp The not so good: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/index
